</li></ul>Nuclear Medicine Technologist Job Responsibilities:
<ul><li>Explains procedures to patients and families and answers any questions to ease anxiety and ensure patient cooperation.
</li><li>Assists the physician in performing a variety of examinations by using standard department protocols, isolation precautions, and/or sterile techniques. Demonstrates proper technique for injection of radiopharmaceuticals under the American College of Radiology guidelines.
</li><li>Demonstrates the ability to recognize clinical and/or emergent problems that may interfere with exams while taking appropriate action to resolve them and produce the most desirable outcome.
</li><li>Correctly identifies patients and their files by utilizing electronic medical records and picture archiving/communication systems while ensuring a high degree of accuracy.
</li><li>Demonstrates the effective use of radiation protection procedures with shielding, collimation devices, and protective shielding per supervisor observation. Maintains exposure reading within the ALARA limits.

JOB SUMMARY
The Nuclear Medicine Technologist, under general supervision of a Radiologist, performs nuclear medicine procedures on ambulatory and hospital patients as requested by a physician or other licensed provider for the diagnosis of disease and injury in accordance with established protocols.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE<ul><li>
Performs high quality nuclear medicine procedures, according to exam protocol, in a timely manner. Maintains production and quality of imaging procedures by following established standards and procedures.</li><li>
Utilizes AIDET when communicating with patients to: identify patient service requirements, ensure correct exam is performed on the correct patient, and establish rapport with patients and others. Instructs and communicates with patients and their family regarding the test to be performed and assesses patient's ability to tolerate exam.</li><li>
Prepares patient and area for procedure by positioning patient, adjusting immobilization devices, moving equipment into specified position and adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors.</li><li>
Protects patients and employees by adhering to safety requirements, infection-control, drug and radiation policies, protocols and techniques. Uses proper sterile techniques when setting up and performing invasive multimodality procedures and maintains hand hygiene requirements.</li><li>
Maintains equipment and work area to meet quality and cleanliness standards. Works with engineers and physicists to ensure optimal operational capabilities of equipment. Reports issues to management or appropriate department. Assists in maintaining supplies inventory.</li><li>
Ensures people are safe to enter the department by screening them according to approved policies and procedures.</li><li>
Obtains, verifies and maintains all relevant documentation such as requisition/chart, patient history, pregnancy status and shielding precautions taken, consent forms, policies and procedures, etc.</li><li>

Under the direction of the Director of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine PET/CT Technologist, performs Nuclear Medicine &amp; PET/CT procedures to produce images to assist physicians with a medical diagnosis, while complying with safety and regulatory requirements.
<div><div>ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Duties:<ul><li>
Manages and maintains all aspects of the Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT Departments, including dose ordering, state compliance, inspections, training, staff management, etc.</li><li>
Ensures adequate training of all NUC/PET employees.</li><li>
Prepares and administers radiopharmaceuticals.</li><li>
Performs patient imaging procedures using radiation-detecting instrumentation following ACR and state regulations.
</li><li>Initiates, maintains, and discontinues IV access.</li><li>
Oversees the administering of contrast agents and radiopharmaceuticals.</li><li>
Responsible for compliance in assigned oversight areas within imaging. Modality to be in compliance with state/federal radiation control/safety ACR guidelines with training, protocols/procedures, and competency.</li><li>
Prepares images, data analysis, and patient information to the Radiologist for diagnostic interpretation.</li><li>

</h2>Performs Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT procedures to produce high-quality diagnostic images for radiologist interpretation. Provides patient care throughout the exam process while maintaining radiation safety standards and regulatory compliance. Serves neonatal, pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations.

</h3><ul><li>Perform Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT imaging procedures
</li><li>Ensure image quality and accurate documentation in EHR and PACS
</li><li>Maintain radiation safety standards and follow ALARA principles
</li><li>Perform quality control on equipment and maintain regulatory records
</li><li>Monitor patients during exams and perform venipuncture as needed
</li><li>Assist radiologists and authorized providers during procedures

</h3><ul><li>Associate degree required
</li><li>Graduate of an accredited Nuclear Medicine program
</li><li>Less than one year experience required
</li><li>ARRT (N) or NMTCB (CNMT) certification required

Performs procedures on patients ranging from Neonatal to Geriatric. Accountable for all applicable documentation relative to procedure performance and patient and family education. Maintains currency in technology and protocol updates.
Demonstrates continuous self-improvement by attending required in-service classes; maintaining certification requirements and section competence; makes effective contributions to section, and adheres to hospital and departmental policies and procedures. May serve as preceptor for students.</div> 

Responsibilities<div>
<ul><li>Engages in patient and family education; initiates and maintains quality patient care throughout the procedure; considers patients&rsquo; comfort and emotional needs.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Responsible for dose administration and calculations, performs QC procedures, has thorough knowledge and understanding of imaging technologies employed, including theory of operation of hybrid imaging with SPECT and CT, and rationale for QC procedures performed. Performs imaging procedures assigned and prepares results for interpretations, including labeling, formatting and associated paperwork.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Recognized malfunctioning equipment and performs minor troubleshooting, performs computer processing and acquired imaging procedures; resolves minor technical problems related to image quality and quantitative results. Archives and retrieves data as assigned including labeling, formatting and associated paperwork.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Conducts wipe tests, surveys and waste disposal as required.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Complies with Federal, State and local requirements and regulatory agencies; maintains a clean, safe work environment and observes safety procedures and testing.</li></ul>

Qualifications<ul>
<li>Associate&rsquo;s degree, Bachelor&rsquo;s preferred</li>
<li>0-2 years minimum of experience as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist</li>
<li>ARRT or NMTCB Certification in Nuclear Medicine and Post-Secondary Certification in Computed Tomography</li>
<li>Radiologic Technologist licensing issued by New York State Dept. of Health</li>
<li>BCLS certification &ndash; Required Issuing Authority: AHA or Red Cross</li>

Compensation
The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides salary ranges that comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $58.3408 - $65.8687 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and operational need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.</div>
