</li></ul>Nuclear Medicine Technologist Job Responsibilities:
<ul><li>Explains procedures to patients and families and answers any questions to ease anxiety and ensure patient cooperation.
</li><li>Assists the physician in performing a variety of examinations by using standard department protocols, isolation precautions, and/or sterile techniques. Demonstrates proper technique for injection of radiopharmaceuticals under the American College of Radiology guidelines.
</li><li>Demonstrates the ability to recognize clinical and/or emergent problems that may interfere with exams while taking appropriate action to resolve them and produce the most desirable outcome.
</li><li>Correctly identifies patients and their files by utilizing electronic medical records and picture archiving/communication systems while ensuring a high degree of accuracy.

Job Summary
The Nuclear Medicine Technologist (NM Tech) performs nuclear medicine, PET, and theranostic procedures. They work under a Radiologist's supervision. These procedures are for ambulatory and hospital patients. A physician or licensed provider requests them for diagnosing disease and injury. They follow established protocols.
Essential Functions of the Role<ul><li>
Quality Assurance: Performs high-quality nuclear medicine, PET, and theranostic procedures according to exam protocol. Evaluates the quality of imaging procedures and follows established standards. Maintains equipment by performing quality control as required by imaging manufacturers, RAM, or ACR. Works with engineers and physicists to ensure optimal equipment capabilities.</li><li>
Caring Practices: Communicates with patients to identify service needs, ensure the correct exam is performed, and establish rapport with patients and others. Instructs and communicates with patients and their family, following HIPAA, about the test and assesses the patient's ability to tolerate the exam.</li><li>
Patient Safety: Explains the procedure thoroughly to put patients at ease. Protects patients and team members by following safety requirements, infection-control, protocols, and techniques. Prepares patient and area for procedure by positioning patient, adjusting immobilization devices, and moving equipment into position. Uses proper aseptic or sterile techniques when setting up and performing invasive procedures. Maintains hand hygiene requirements.</li><li>
Radiation Safety: Safeguards patients, team members, and themselves by following all radiation safety rules, policies, and techniques. Verifies the correct radioactive drug for the exam or treatment. Screens patients for pregnancy status before the exam or treatment. Safely administers radiopharmaceuticals and medications per protocol. Educates patients on radiation safety techniques before and after the exam or treatment. Safely follows radiation disposal guidelines.</li><li>
Collaboration: Reports issues to leadership or the appropriate department. Assists in maintaining supplies inventory and ordering radiopharmaceuticals for patient care and Q.C. Works with colleagues, nursing partners, medical staff, and Radiologists. Ensures accurate transfer of patient images to the BSWH PACS for clinical review and dictation by physician partners.</li></ul>

JOB SUMMARY
The Nuclear Medicine Technologist, under general supervision of a Radiologist, performs nuclear medicine procedures on ambulatory and hospital patients as requested by a physician or other licensed provider for the diagnosis of disease and injury in accordance with established protocols.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE<ul><li>
Performs high quality nuclear medicine procedures, according to exam protocol, in a timely manner. Maintains production and quality of imaging procedures by following established standards and procedures.</li><li>
Utilizes AIDET when communicating with patients to: identify patient service requirements, ensure correct exam is performed on the correct patient, and establish rapport with patients and others. Instructs and communicates with patients and their family regarding the test to be performed and assesses patient's ability to tolerate exam.</li><li>
Prepares patient and area for procedure by positioning patient, adjusting immobilization devices, moving equipment into specified position and adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors.</li><li>
Protects patients and employees by adhering to safety requirements, infection-control, drug and radiation policies, protocols and techniques. Uses proper sterile techniques when setting up and performing invasive multimodality procedures and maintains hand hygiene requirements.</li><li>
Maintains equipment and work area to meet quality and cleanliness standards. Works with engineers and physicists to ensure optimal operational capabilities of equipment. Reports issues to management or appropriate department. Assists in maintaining supplies inventory.</li><li>

Job Summary and Qualifications</h5>
Minimum Education, Experience, Training, Required Knowledge, Skill, Abilities and Other Job-Related Characteristics:
1. Education: Graduate of a Nuclear Medicine training program
2. Experience: 2 years experience as nuclear medicine technologist in a hospital setting
3. Employee completes initial and ongoing training and competencies as defined by service line, facility and department/unit which are specific to the needs of the patient population served (if applicable).
Minimum License, Certificates, or Registrations Required:
1. One of the following:
 i. ARRT (R) or ii. ARRT (N) or iii. ARRT (T) or iv. NMTCB
2. Medical Radiologic Technologist Certification from Texas Department of Health 
What you will do in this Role:
1. Supervises assigned personnel within and responsible for the effective planning and operation of the section(s). Evaluates performance of employees and takes appropriate personnel action when necessary. Motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance by providing clear direction and expectations. 
2. Leads both formal and informal meetings, which maximize the group&rsquo;s success. Fosters an atmosphere that encourages the open expression of ideas and opinions; asks key questions and offers information to move the process along; links the comments of others and builds on their ideas; and observes and comments on group dynamics. Creates an effective work team and sustains the team&rsquo;s performance during chaotic and stressful work phases.
3. Maintains inventory and equipment service records. Works with vendors to ensure optimum uptime of equipment in his/her section(s). Schedules preventive maintenance and emergency maintenance without disrupting patient care.
4. Views work situations from a broad context and understand the complementary interdependent nature of work process. Assesses the impact and implications of decisions on other components of the organization and determines the effects of one&rsquo;s individual work within this broad context. Communicates with other managers and directors any decisions, which may impact other sections of the organization.
5. Gathers and analyzes necessary data to identify relevant issues and accurately defines the problem, then formulates and evaluates alternatives prior to acting on a solution. Makes good decisions based on logical assumptions that reflect available factual information.
6. Uses resources effectively and efficiently to maintain a productivity standard as set forth by the Department Director in cooperation with administration.

1. May have access to radiopharmaceuticals, contrast agents and other non-controlled medications as appropriate to diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

4.
