Job Summary: Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) provide comprehensive inpatient psychiatric and medical support in accordance with military and civil service standards, delivering direct patient care, monitoring vital signs, assisting with procedures, maintaining safety and infection control, and supporting daily living activities.
Required Qualifications:
<ul><li>Education:
<ul><li>Certificate. Completion of a state-approved CNA program successfully passed state exam, and registered in the Nursing Assistant Registry whose qualifications have been examined and certified by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) or equivalent.</li>

Key Responsibilities:
<ul><li>CNAs shall perform essentially the same duties, as those required of any military or government civil service nursing assistant of similar experience and within the skill set of accepted practice to include inpatient psychiatry. This list of duties is not intended to establish either a maximum or minimum acceptable level of effort or be an inclusive listing of anticipated duties. Workload includes either scheduled or emergency requirements for care according to standards.</li>
<li>Documentation and Record-Keeping:
<ul><li>Ensures accurate and timely medical documentation in compliance with BAMC policies.</li>
<li>Manually and/or electronically record all patient care activities and patient status.</li>
<li>Completes documentation within 72 hours in the patient&rsquo;s medical record.</li>

<ul><li>Assists in providing patients with basic and general information regarding self-care and therapy (i.e., activity level, diet and fluid intake, etc.) to ensure compliance with physician's orders.</li>
<li>Dispense ice water and meal trays to patients.</li>
<li>Perform a range of personal care tasks including bathing, feeding, lifting, turning, ambulating, and providing oral, hair, skin, and related hygiene care.</li>
<li>Checks IV infusion sites for complications.</li>
<li>Applies and monitors hot and cold packs as prescribed.</li>
<li>Performs daily quality control checks on glucose test monitor.</li>
<li>Collects or assists in the collection of specimens such as fecal occult blood and urine.</li>
<li>Assists health care provider in examinations/procedures such as physical exams, X-rays, lumbar punctures, biopsies, PAP/Pelvic examinations etc.</li>
<li>Assists in admitting, transferring, and discharging patients.</li>
<li>Transports patients within BAMC for tests, procedures, or appointments.</li>
<li>Provide general information to patients and visitors regarding hospital policies and directions.</li>
<li>Reinforces instructions provided by professional staff. Provides patients/visitors with general information regarding unit and hospital policies, directions to lab, X-ray, etc.</li>
<li>Cares for patients in isolation.</li>
<li>Assists in orientation/precepting of newly assigned personnel.</li>
<li>Assist with administrative tasks.</li>
<li>Sets up and stamps component parts of patients' records, files lab/X-ray slips and other documents in prescribed order. Records observations and other pertinent data on appropriate records (i.e., nursing notes, I&amp;O records, etc.).</li>
<li>Assists in the general maintenance of the unit and patient care equipment (cleans instruments, equipment, patient units and work areas; sort and stores supplies, linen, equipment; disposes of trash and soiled linen; restocks medical forms).</li>
<li>Equipment monitoring and assistance.</li>

<li>Recognize and initiate appropriate measures in emergency situations.</li>
<li>Exercise universal precautions for infection control.</li>
<li>Abide by BAMC safety and infection control policies and procedures.</li>
</ul></li><li>CNAs assigned to the inpatient units may rotate between performing as an Individual Care Provider (ICP) (one to one patient care), Remote Patient Safety Attendant (RPSA) (remote monitoring in Telemetry Room), or assigned to unit to assist nursing care teams.</li>
<li>CNAs shall provide age-specific care based on Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) of the inpatient wards and outpatient clinics; health care provider's orders; the physical, mental and emotional needs of the patient; and the policies and procedures of BAMC.</li>
<li>Shall utilize comprehensive knowledge of workload requirements in conjunction with knowledge of the composition and capabilities of assigned staff, to distribute/redistribute personnel resources in response to unforeseen patient care needs.</li>
<li>Attends and participates in patient nursing reports, patient care conferences, team/unit/clinic conferences, discharge planning, and staff conferences as deemed appropriate by administrative officials.</li>

Work Environment &amp; Schedule: Sunday to Saturday, 3x12-hour shifts and 1x4-hour shift per week
