The Nutrition Services Assistant I works primarily in an industrial school kitchen and also works in the cafeteria/lunchroom. The work environment is often loud and includes exposure to hot surfaces, steam heat, cold temperatures in cooler/freezer areas, cleaning solvents, and vibration with some equipment. Other potential exposures and hazards include but are not limited to: chemicals, fumes, communicable diseases, sharp objects, power/hand-operated equipment and machinery, pinch points, odors, and slippery surfaces.</p><p>
The Nutrition Services Assistant I will constantly stand or walk (100% of the time) while performing kitchen food preparation duties on tile/concrete surfaces up to 2-3 miles per day. The job involves moderate to fast-paced walking to meet daily timelines.</p><p>

<ul><li>Provides friendly and respectful customer service, including but not limited to acknowledging students by name and thanking each student for their business, keeping the serving area neat and clean and encouraging healthy food choices.

<ul><li>Enters meal components correctly, documents all emergency meal transactions, handles cash and checks accurately, checks alerts for special diets, and follows end of day procedures for cash control and accountability.

<ul><li>Receives, checks-in, and stocks food. Checks-out food for production, and organizes storage rooms, refrigerators and freezers.
</li></ul><br>
<ul><li>Maintains accountability of the program, including but not limited to compliance with all federal, state, and local rules and regulations. Accurately records necessary documentation for production records, HACCP, meal accountability, and cash procedures and ensures compliance with all school district policies and procedures.

<ul><li>Circulates throughout the cafeteria assisting student, encouraging good table manners, and encouraging students to eat a balanced meal and try unfamiliar foods.

<ul><li>Assists SNS staff with student special diet requests, ensuring the students receive the correct food for any dietary or preference requests.
</li></ul><br>
<ul><li>Assists with food tastings by working with the SNS manager and staff in offering samples of new foods to students, encouraging them to try it, and soliciting their feedback.
</li></ul><br>
<ul><li>Prepares and cleans &ldquo;allergy free&rdquo; tables according to established procedures.
</li></ul><br>
<ul><li>Ensures the cafeteria tables are clean and free of spills and trash, tables are cleaned, and the cafeteria is ready for the next group of students after dismissing the classes in an orderly manner according to the school&rsquo;s schedule.
</li></ul><br>
<ul><li>Ensures serving line is clean, all food, beverages, and paper goods are properly stored and all equipment is cleaned and property turned off. Assists with the overall clean-up of the kitchen, dish area, and storage areas.
</li></ul><br>
<ul><li>Performs any other duties as assigned.
