GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) work under the supervision of Occupational Therapists and assist them to collaborate with residents and enable the residents&rsquo; abilities to lead a comfortable and normal daily life. The COTA is primarily responsible for implementing the therapeutic program prescribed by the occupational therapist.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
<ul><li> Promote independence in activities of daily living (including dressing and feeding) through problem solving, suggesting adaptations and observation of the resident.</li></ul>
<ul><li> Observe, problem solve and suggest positioning techniques to enhance participation and maximize function.</li></ul>
<ul><li> Utilize task analysis to suggest techniques to the nursing team regarding feeding, activities of daily living, and other skills needed.</li></ul>
<ul><li> Collaborate with colleagues in order to share information and expertise to plan and implement effective treatments.</li></ul>

<li>Must be able to lift and transfer patients to and from all surfaces a minimum of 10 times per day.</li>
<li>Must be able to lift approximately 50-70 pounds a minimum of 10 times per day.</li>
<li>Must be able to perform CPR, if required.</li>
<li>Must be proficient with the use of hands for repetitive grasping and fine motor manipulations.</li>
<li>Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant will spend approximately 60-80% of time bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching while working with Occupational Therapy patients.</li>
<li>Certified Occupational Therapist will spend approximately 60-80% of time walking/standing.</li>

For Support Activities:

Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant may spend approximately 10-20% of the time sitting at desk or terminal entering data.
