Job Summary
The Tissue Recovery Specialist is responsible for the excision of ocular tissue from deceased donors for the intent of transplantation and/or medical research. The role entails driving to the recovery site (e.g., Office of the Medical Examiners, funeral homes, hospitals), performing necessary assessments of the donor, performing the ocular excision procedure, and proper delivery of procured tissue to the correct facility. Additional responsibilities related to the recovery department may be assigned by the Recovery Supervisor based on recovery tier status.
Responsibilities
The Full-Time Tissue Recovery Specialist will be responsible for:
<ul><li>Maintaining a valid driver&rsquo;s license during time of employment.
</li><li>Driving to and from the recovery location in a safe and timely manner.
</li><li>Performing a detailed physical assessment of the potential donor; documenting any visible signs of communicable diseases.
</li><li>Observing the posterior side of the donor by rolling the cadaver and/or lifting extremities.
</li><li>Drawing Cadaveric blood; or obtaining pre-transfused samples from the admitting hospital when necessary.
</li><li>Performing sterile corneoscleral excision and aseptic preservation of tissue for the intent of transplantation.
</li><li>Performing non-sterile whole eye enucleation for the intent of medical research.
</li><li>Delivering ocular tissue, blood samples, or storage media to surgical centers, laboratories, Moran Eye Center, and the Utah Lions Eye Bank
</li><li>Assisting the Recovery Supervisor with screening new recovery candidates to ensure adequate shift coverage for recovery-related services.
</li><li>Assisting in the proper training of new Tissue Recovery Specialist employees on proper technique, documentation, and technical skills.
</li><li>Scheduling periodic fleet vehicle maintenance to ensure adequate safety and usability of vehicle for recovery-related services.
</li><li>Organizing and maintaining recovery-related supplies to ensure proper use of supplies within the allotted expiration date per FDA regulations.
</li><li>Conducting professional interactions with referring hospitals, funeral homes, law enforcement agencies, DonorConnect, and the Office of the Medical Examiners.
</li><li>Maintaining a competent level of understanding of Standard Operating Procedures associated with the recovery department of the Utah Lions Eye Bank.

</li></ul>Minimum Qualifications
Associate&rsquo;s degree in biology, chemistry or other scientific disciplines in a related field or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience) required. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills also required. Certification as an Eye Bank Technician, Ophthalmic Technician or Tissue Bank Specialist is preferred. Experience with aseptic technique and medical terminology also preferred.

The Ophthalmic Technician assists the Ophthalmologist/Optician and other technical support personnel to perform diagnostics tests necessary for patient evaluation. 
Responsibilities
1. Performs preliminary screening examinations for physician review including, but not limited to, central and peripheral visual field tests; ocular motility tests; color vision tests; pharmacological pupil tests; tonometry, tonography and tensilon tonography tests to determine intraocular pressure and pupil testing for size, equality and reaction prior to dilation.

2. Directs the flow of patients examined by the physician or optician; obtains medical and personal data for patient charts; screens patients for conditions excluding ocular examination; arranges for laboratory and other tests, ophthalmic photography, outpatient studies and patient admissions and surgery as requested by physician; alleviates patient and family concerns by explaining diagnostic procedures and method of treatment.

3. Calibrates and maintains all instruments used including, but not limited to bio-microscopes, lensometer, keratometer, tangent screen, slit lamp and tonometers; cleans and stocks consultation rooms and microbiology laboratory with drugs and other supplies as needed.

4. Sterilizes and sets up instruments for ophthalmic surgical procedures; assists with minor office surgery, laser treatments and operating room surgery as required.

5. Performs other duties as assigned.

The office is open 7:45am-5pm on Monday-Thursday. Part-time 25-35 hours/week, preferably.POSITION SUMMARY: Receptionist work included welcoming and checking-in patients. Pulling insurance eligibility for patient exams, and contacting patients with information regarding details to their appointment, balances due, etc. The Ophthalmic Technician performs a range of duties which includes preparing the patient to see the Doctor (preliminary exam, medical history, &amp; testing), preparation of examination and treatment rooms, performing basic and routine vision screening examinations, administering eye medications, cleaning and maintaining ophthalmic instruments and assisting the Doctor during minor procedures.ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides primary ophthalmic care to patients and act as clinical assistant to Doctor. There are opportunities to grow within the company at each location. We take pride in assisting employees with their goals for growth. This position is primarily for our Walled Lake office but may be considered as a float position as well, where the qualified candidate might work at more than one location throughout the week.Main Duties &amp; Responsibilities<ul><li>Manage patient communication (in-person, phone, email) and appointment scheduling</li><li>Support front desk duties such as checking patients in and out and retrieving insurance eligibility</li><li>Conduct computerized pre-testing, patient history, and exam room preparation in support of the doctors</li><li>Maintain a clean medical environment for all visitors and patients</li></ul>Qualifications<ul><li>Excellent customer service skills</li><li>Ability to multi-task</li><li>High level attention to detail</li><li>Must be able to walk, bend and stand for extended periods of time</li><li>Some insurance knowledge or history with EHR systems preferred</li></ul>Experience and Education<ul><li>Requires high school diploma or GED</li><li>Basic math skills and excellent computer skills</li><li>2+ years of customer service, luxury retail and/or hospitality experience preferred</li><li>1+ years of eye care or health care-related experience preferred</li></ul>Job Types: Full-time, Part-timePay: $16.00 - $20.00 per hourBenefits:<ul><li>401(k) matching</li><li>Dental insurance</li><li>Employee discount</li><li>Health insurance</li><li>Paid time off</li><li>Professional development assistance</li></ul>Experience:<ul><li>Technician: 1 year (Preferred)</li><li>Customer service: 1 year (Required)</li><li>Healthcare: 1 year (Required)</li></ul>Work Location: In person
