<p>POSITION OVERVIEW:</p><p>The United States District Court for the Northern District of Iowa is seeking qualified applicants for an Official Court Reporter. Official Court Reporters are responsible for the verbatim reporting of proceedings held before United States District Judges and Magistrate Judges and for the transcription of those proceedings upon request. ABOUT THE POSITION</b></div><div>
Under general supervision, the Official Assignment Court Reporter, working on an intermittent basis, reports and transcribes verbatim stenographic record of official court proceedings. A stenographic record is defined as using the voice method or the machine method. The Official Assignment Court Reporter prepares and certifies transcripts, and, at the direction of the Court, reads the report aloud in court, in accordance with applicable code sections; and performs related tasks within the area of assignment.</div><div></div><div><br>
The Official Assignment Court Reporter is distinguished from an Official Court Reporter in that the classification provides additional courtroom support from time to time on an as-needed basis. Incumbents will be expected to gradually perform a broader range of duties with increasing responsibility and independence as experience is gained. An Official Assignment Court Reporter is expected to qualify for advancement to Official Court Reporter by the end of a fifty-two (52) week probationary period. There is no permanent status in the Official Assignment Court Reporter classification. Upon advancement to Official Court Reporter, incumbents are placed on a six (6) month promotional probation period.</div><div></div><div><i><br>
Duties for the classification may include, but are not limited to:</i></div><div></div><div><br>
1. <div><p>The Second Judicial District is seeking a full-time <b>Official Stenographic or Electronic Court Reporter </b>for Referee Jenna Westby. In this position you will work directly with Referee Westby out of the <b>Juvenile and Family Justice Center 25 W. 7th St. #B122 St. Paul, MN 55102 </b>. This is a highly responsible technical work role. The primary functions are to capture a verbatim record of court proceedings using a stenographic machine to prepare and distribute transcripts in accordance with rules of court, opinions, state statutes, legal guidelines, and policies.
</p><p>Additionally, the court reporter serves as the appointing authority's confidential assistant. The court reporter exercises independent judgment as related to the duties of maintaining the record. Work is reviewed and evaluated by the appointing authority.
