<p>POSITION OVERVIEW:</p><p>The United States District Court for the Northern District of Iowa is seeking qualified applicants for an Official Court Reporter. Official Court Reporters are responsible for the verbatim reporting of proceedings held before United States District Judges and Magistrate Judges and for the transcription of those proceedings upon request. ABOUT THE POSITION</b></div><div>
Under general supervision, the Official Assignment Court Reporter, working on an intermittent basis, reports and transcribes verbatim stenographic record of official court proceedings. A stenographic record is defined as using the voice method or the machine method. The Official Assignment Court Reporter prepares and certifies transcripts, and, at the direction of the Court, reads the report aloud in court, in accordance with applicable code sections; and performs related tasks within the area of assignment.</div><div></div><div><br>
The Official Assignment Court Reporter is distinguished from an Official Court Reporter in that the classification provides additional courtroom support from time to time on an as-needed basis. Incumbents will be expected to gradually perform a broader range of duties with increasing responsibility and independence as experience is gained. An Official Assignment Court Reporter is expected to qualify for advancement to Official Court Reporter by the end of a fifty-two (52) week probationary period. There is no permanent status in the Official Assignment Court Reporter classification. Upon advancement to Official Court Reporter, incumbents are placed on a six (6) month promotional probation period.</div><div></div><div><i><br>
Duties for the classification may include, but are not limited to:</i></div><div></div><div><br>
1. <p>The U.S. District Court Clerk&rsquo;s Office for the District of Massachusetts is currently accepting applications to fill a full-time position for an Official Court Reporter. The position is based in the District Court in Boston, Massachusetts.</p><p><b>Summary:</b></p><p>The United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts, Boston, has an opening for an Official Court Reporter. Official Court Reporters serve at the pleasure of the Court and must comply with the requirements of the Judicial Conference of the United States, The Court Reporter&rsquo;s Manual published by the Administrative Office of the United States Courts, and policies of the Clerk&rsquo;s Office. Periodic travel to offices throughout the district is required.</p><p><b>Representative Duties:</b></p><p>The Official Court Reporter records verbatim testimony by Computer Assisted Technology (CAT) for civil and criminal court proceedings and provides Real Time reporting services. At the request of a party or by order of the Court, the Court Reporter provides transcripts within the time frames and cost requirements of the Judicial Conference. Additionally, Court Reporters are responsible for determining that billings and formats comply with Judicial Conference requirements.</p><p>Court Reporters must adhere to the requirements of the Court&rsquo;s Court Reporter Management Plan of this District and maintain accurate, legible records which are subject to audits. This position involves completing record-keeping forms, documenting the information contained in reports, as well as maintaining and safeguarding records until their disposition according to statutory requirements and Judicial Conference policy.</p><p><b>Minimum Qualifications:</b></p><p>At least one year of prime stenographic CAT court reporting experience in the freelance field of service or in other courts or a combination is required. Four years of experience is preferred unless the candidate can demonstrate extradentary skills with less years of experience.</p><p>Qualification by testing for listing on the Registry of Professional Reporters of the National Court Reporters Association or passed an equivalent qualifying examination. Professional associations (other than the NCRA) and state license examinations may be acceptably equivalent to the NCRA testing, but the requirements for the examinations at the time of administration will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis;</p><p>A Certificate of Merit from the National Court Reporters Association, a requirement for Level II. Realtime certification required for Level III.
