As a Operating Room Unit Aide for the surgical team at Banner Casa Grande Medical Center, you will help impact patient care directly by providing a clean and risk free surgical environment. POSITION SUMMARY 
This position is responsible for collection, inventory, cleaning and distribution of medical supplies and patient care equipment for the unit. This position is also responsible for miscellaneous tasks such as transporting patients and supplies, and may include transporting health records, lab specimens and equipment to other areas. This position may provide basic, hands-on, patient care as requested by supervisor. 
 
CORE FUNCTIONS 
1. Inventories, orders, replenishes, and disperses supplies within the department, ensuring all areas and carts are appropriately stocked and the supplies are readily accessible to the clinical staff. Assists with transportation, delivery, and pick-up of supplies, health records, lab specimens, and/or equipment. Rotates and inventories stock to ensure sterile packaging integrity and current expiration dates. Monitors utilization and recommends changes as appropriate. Maintains quality records of various department equipment, supplies, storage areas, etc. 
 
2. Maintains unit equipment, instruments and trays in accordance with department policy. Cleans, sorts, assembles equipment, instruments and/or trays according to standard set-up and replaces in designated areas, ensuring they are readily accessible. Responsible for finding and bringing equipment or instruments for procedures, under the direction of the clinical staff. May check instruments and equipment, as assigned, to see if they need repair and liaison with technology management. 
 
3. Maintains clean and safe work environment and discards soiled linen and trash. Completes room set-up which may include comprehensive cleaning, bed turnover and preparation of special procedure carts. Remove debris from floors, walls, equipment and other surfaces using disinfectant, damp mops etc. 
 
4. Provides basic, hands-on, patient care as requested by supervisor, including but not limited to patient transport and ambulation. 
 
5. May provide general support to the department, including performing administrative tasks and greeting and assisting patients, visitors, physicians, and ancillary personnel. May provide back-up support for Monitor Techs in designated departments &ndash; this will require additional specialized training provided by the department. 
 
6. This position works under local supervision and has responsibility for assigned unit only. Incumbents work in a fast-paced, sometimes stressful environment with a strong focus on customer service. Interacts with staff at all levels throughout the facility. Customers are patients, families, physicians, unit staff, case managers, patient service staff and medical records staff. Interacts with a wide variety of external customers. 
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 
 
Certification for BLS is required. 
 
Requires skills and abilities typically attained with six months of healthcare experience. Must possess excellent organizational skills, as well as effective human relations and communication skills. Working knowledge of medical terminology is required. Banner Registry and Travel positions require a minimum of one year experience in an acute care hospital setting. Experience must include working in an acute care setting within the past twelve months as a Unit Aide in the specialty area. 
 
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge. 
Knowledge of patient related supplies, materials, equipment and aseptic techniques are preferred. 
 
Additional related education and/or experience preferred.

DEPT. SCOPE OF SERVICE:
Perioperative Services consists of the Operating Room (OR), Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), Ambulatory Care Unit (ACU), Endoscopy, Minor Procedures and Sterile Processing Dept. Patients are cared for from 10 months until the end of life. General surgery, OB/GYN, orthopedic, urology, dental, ophthalmology, and podiatry are performed in the three rooms. Endoscopy is performed in the Endo suite or OR Rooms. Cesarean sections are performed in the Birthing Center operating room.
Perioperative Services is staffed by Registered Nurses, Surgical Technologists, Scheduler/Assistant Staffing Coordinators, Sterile Processing Technicians, LNA, Operating Room Assistant, OR &amp; ACU/ PACU Supervisors and a Director of Perioperative Services.
The OR provides care 24 hrs a day, each day of the year for patients aged ten months until the end of life. The OR&rsquo;s elective schedule is from 7:00am to 3:30pm. Care is coordinated between physician offices, the OR, Anesthesiology, and the Perioperative Director. Predictable starting times for surgery and admitting times for patients are established by the Director or designee.
The PACU has an area for the immediate preoperative care and reassessment of patients for surgery, for the admission and discharge of select ACU patients, and primarily, for the provision of intensive observation and care of patients following operative and special procedures.
Sterile Processing processes and decontaminates instruments and equipment for the OR and Nursing Units house wide.
The ACU, cares for surgical /medical patients, and providing pre and postoperative care and education services.
Pre Anesthesia Screening area is staffed by a RN&rsquo;s, Workflow Coordinator and Unit Secretary. Patients are interviewed prior to surgery, pre-op consults and test results reviewed and anesthesia guidelines followed to assure adequate patient assessment and preparation prior to surgery.

Your Everyday<ul><li>
Assist the transporting patients to and from surgery.
</li><li>Ensures all movable equipment is safely stored, supplies are removed from hallways and stored in respective spaces.</li><li>
Report nonfunctional or broken equipment to management.</li><li>
Assist in maintaining adequate inventory levels.</li><li>
Identify specific patients accurately and ready patients for transport to surgery.</li><li>
Use appropriate cleaning solutions after each use of equipment</li><li>
Assist the operating team with turnover between cases.</li><li>
Interact with patients, families, visitors, fellow employees to ensure a professional and courteous environment.</li><li>
Attend all required safety training programs and maintain responsibilities related to general safety, department or service safety, and specific job-related hazards.</li><li>
Ability to communicate effectively and to perform simple mathematical calculations with a reasonable degree of accuracy.</li><li>
Perform duties using standard precautions and OSHA guidelines.</li></ul>

Minimum:<ul><li>
High School Diploma/GED or equivalent experience in a related field with six months to one year of experience in a clinical or hospital setting.

A Brief Overview

What you will do<ul><li>
Cleans and maintains operating rooms before and after surgical procedures. Maintains cleaning solutions and cleaning equipment.</li>
<li>Transports pediatric, adolescent, adult &amp; geriatric patients, both inpatients &amp; outpatients, to and from surgical suites, Pre-op Holding, EPOH and CVICU areas.</li>
<li>Transports requested items, such as blood, x-rays, pharmacy items, SPD items, charts, records and equipment between departments and surgical units; transports requested supplies in a timely, accurate manner.</li>
<li>Participates in CIP, Quality Improvement and evaluation activities and implements measures to ensure that hospital, DNV and other quality standards are met.</li>
<li>Maintains principles of aseptic technique according to hospital policy and procedure and AORN standards. Maintains and stores equipment in a clean/safe condition. Stocks and maintains the proper par levels of various supplies such as blankets, brushes, etc., in the assigned surgical unit.</li>
<li>Recognizes and responds appropriately to environmental safety factors.</li>
