The Ophthalmic Scribe assists the doctors with documentation of the patient exam into the patient's electronic health record (EHR). The Scribe will also assist with facilitation of surgery and procedure scheduling and scheduling of return appointments as directed by the provider. Partners with other clinic staff to facilitate efficient clinic flow and ensure quality patient care.<br>

<b>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES</b></div>
<ul><li>Greet all patients and guests according to company standards, anticipate and address service needs, assist individuals with disabilities, and thank others with genuine appreciation. Treat each patient with respect by greeting them by name, introducing yourself, and ensuring that the patient understands what will happen during the exam.</li>
<li>Document patient exam in EHR, scribing all elements of the patient exam including procedure orders, e-prescribing medications and scheduling the return to clinic. Ensure all entries are accurate by the team.</li>
<li>Respond to internal communications in a timely manner.</li>
<li>Perform the following as needed: Obtain complete patient histories including chief complaint, past ocular/medical history, family medical/ocular history and history of allergies and medications.</li>
<li>Perform ophthalmologic tests including visual acuity, applanation tonometry, pachymetry, visual fields, corneal topography, OCTs, lensometry, and other tests as directed within the prescribed timeline.</li>
<li>Calibrate diagnostic equipment and perform instrument sterilization as needed.</li>
<li>Provide patient and family counseling/education as needed, including the creation of medication grids.</li>
<li>Assist in triage.</li>
<li>Dispense medication and/or over the counter product samples as directed.</li>
<li>Review all chart notes and correspondence daily to ensure accuracy and completeness. Ensure chart documentation meets ICD-10 requirements. Work with doctors to sign and close encounters and transmit ERx.</li>
<li>Obtain patient signature on consent documents for in lane and surgical procedures.</li>
<li>Set up exam rooms per provider preference, keep exam rooms stocked and clean between patients; cleaned at end of each workday; assist in maintaining public spaces for professional appearance.</li>
<li>Partner with providers to prepare culture documents, ensure proper storage of specimens, contact lab for pickup and ensure specimen is in the lockbox for pick up.</li>
<li>Attend trainings and stay current on requirements for HIPAA compliance and Protected Health Information (PHI).</li>
<li>Ensure opening and closing of special testing rooms. Maintain stocking of exam lane and maintain order in working areas.</li>

<p>Longwood Eye &amp; LASIK is now hiring for the position of ophthalmic assistant / technician.</p><p>Excellent opportunity for someone looking to enter the medical field at an entry level. Experience in optometry or ophthalmology preferred, but training is available for the right candidate. The ideal candidate is someone with a great positive attitude and willingness to learn.</p><p>Ophthalmic assistants / technicians perform a variety of tasks including obtaining patient histories and working with the electronic medical record, checking vision, intraocular pressure, administering eyedrops and performing refractions. They act as a scribe while physician examines patient; entering data into electronic medical records.</p><p>Additionally they perform diagnostic testing including but not limited to Humphrey VF, OCT, Fundus Photography, Specular Microscopy, IOL Master, Topography, A-Scan.</p><p>The daily work schedule varies based on which physician is in the office but the earliest start time would be 7:45am and latest end time is usually no later than 5:15pm.
