Job OverviewThe Paralegal supports the attorney in both creditor collections litigation and estate planning matters, assisting with case management, document preparation, client communication, and court filings. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage deadlines in a fast-paced legal environment.Key ResponsibilitiesCollections / Creditor Litigation<ul><li>Draft and file legal documents, including:</li><li>Petitions, answers, motions for summary judgment, default judgments</li><li>Demand letters and settlement agreements</li><li>Garnishments, writs of execution, and post-judgment discovery</li><li>Review account records, contracts, and payment histories</li><li>Maintain case files and track litigation deadlines</li><li>Coordinate service of process and filings through e-filing systems</li><li>Communicate with clients, debtors, courts, and opposing counsel</li><li>Assist attorneys with trial preparation and hearings</li><li>Monitor and follow up on judgments and collections activity</li></ul>Estate Planning &amp; Probate<ul><li>Draft estate planning documents, including:</li><li>Wills, trusts, powers of attorney, and advance directives</li><li>Prepare probate applications and supporting documents</li><li>Assist with estate administration, including inventories and notices</li><li>Communicate with clients regarding estate planning goals and document execution</li><li>Coordinate document signings and notarizations</li><li>Maintain client files and ensure compliance with firm procedures</li></ul>Experience<ul><li>Paralegal certificate or equivalent experience preferred</li><li>Proficiency in Microsoft Office and legal case management</li><li>2+ years of experience in collections, litigation, or estate planning preferred</li><li>Familiarity with Texas court procedures and e-filing systems strongly preferred</li><li>Strong drafting and proofreading skills</li><li>Ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritize tasks</li><li>Clio billing experience a plus</li></ul>Administrative skills including data entry accuracy and clerical experience in a legal setting are essential for success in this role.Join us in making a meaningful difference in delivering exceptional legal services across our focused practice areas! Kean Miller is seeking a Litigation Legal Assistant to work in our Probate Litigation Group in our Houston Office. 
The ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge of state, federal and probate court rules and filing procedures; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; possess excellent organizational, time management, word processing, proofreading, and strong multi-tasking skills. This position would support multiple attorneys.
Duties<ul><li>
Draft correspondence, memos, pleadings and engagement letters. This includes proofreading, editing and redlines for accuracy of content and format</li><li>
Work closely with attorneys and assist with the preparation of court filings and organization of pleadings, memoranda, discovery</li><li>
E-files documents with various courts</li><li>
Maintain files, including organizing electronic filings, correspondence, and other documents on the firm&rsquo;s document management system (NetDocs) for active files</li><li>
Open new client/matter client files and run conflict checks</li><li>
Maintain calendars and client contacts</li><li>
Coordinate travel and meeting logistics including scheduling, arranging video conferences, conferences calls, and conference rooms; requesting equipment; preparing presentation materials</li><li>
Other administrative duties as assigned</li></ul>
Job Requirements<ul><li>
Minimum 3 years of experience as a Litigation Assistant</li><li>
Strong organizational and proofreading skills</li><li>
Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel</li><li>
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, both virtually and in-person</li><li>
High attention to detail and accuracy, excellent time management and organizational skills</li><li>
Ability to anticipate needs and take action without requiring detailed direction in relation to routine responsibilities</li><li>
Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality and to engender trust</li><li>
Prior experience working with Probate Litigation desired; however not required</li><li>
This position is 100% in the downtown Houston office Monday through Friday</li></ul>
