Trainees are assigned to a 56-hour work week (24-hour shifts, including weekends and holidays), serve a 12-month probationary period, and perform emergency medical services as a certified paramedic, along with fire service duties including fire suppression, rescue, hazardous materials response, station and equipment maintenance, fire prevention, and public education.

Position Summary:</b></div><div>
Perform firefighting, emergency medical, and rescue work in the protection of life and property from fires, accidents, natural disasters, and other emergencies. Responsibilities also include fire prevention activities, emergency preparedness initiatives, department training, equipment maintenance, and station maintenance.<br>

Essential Duties &amp; Responsibilities:</b><br>
</div><div><b>
Fire Suppression &amp; Rescue Operations:</b></div><ul><li>
Perform fire suppression activities using appropriate equipment, tools, and extinguishing agents.</li><li>
Participate in fire scene cleanup, salvage, and overhaul operations.</li><li>
Operate various-sized hose lines flowing at different gallons-per-minute rates.</li><li>
Advance charged and uncharged hose lines into structures and up ladders.</li><li>
Respond to structural fires, rescues, accidents, and emergency incidents.</li></ul><div><br>
<b>
Emergency Medical Services:</b></div><ul><li>
Provide pre-hospital emergency medical care to sick and injured patients.</li><li>
Work collaboratively with ambulance contractor personnel, hospital staff, and the Medical Director.</li><li>
Deliver emergency medical services in accordance with department protocols and certifications.</li></ul><div><br>
<b>
Equipment Operations &amp; Maintenance:</b></div><ul><li>
Operate firefighting apparatus and equipment.</li><li>
Utilize aerial apparatus, generators, air compressors, hoists, semi-automatic external defibrillators, saws, extrication tools, and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).</li><li>
Maintain fire apparatus and equipment.</li><li>
Perform routine fire station and grounds maintenance.</li></ul><div><br>

Training &amp; Professional Development:</b></div><ul><li>
Participate in scheduled drills, classes, and training exercises.</li><li>
Complete individual study and departmental training requirements.</li><li>
Support emergency preparedness and fire prevention activities.</li></ul><div><br>

Minimum Qualifications:</b><br>

Required Experience:</b></div><ul><li>
Minimum of <b>two (2) full years of paid structural firefighter experience</b> with a career fire department.</li><li>
Successful completion of an approved full-time professional recruit fire academy.</li><li>
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a high school diploma.</li></ul><div><br>

Required Certifications &amp; Qualifications:</b></div><div>
Applicants must possess:</div><ul><li>
Minimum age of 21 years.</li><li>
Valid Colorado Driver License or ability to obtain upon residency.</li><li>
Valid State of Colorado or National Registry EMT-B or EMT-Paramedic Certification (current).</li><li>
American Heart Association BLS Provider Certification or equivalent.</li><li>
Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control (DFPC) Firefighter I or Firefighter II Certification or approved out-of-state equivalent (IFSAC/ProBoard accredited).</li><li>
Colorado DFPC Hazardous Materials Awareness &amp; Operations &ndash; NFPA 1072 Certification or approved out-of-state equivalent (IFSAC/ProBoard accredited).</li><li>
FEMA IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, and IS-800 Certifications.</li></ul><div>
