An Overview</b><br>
A Labor I- Seasonal performs general, unskilled, manual work of a routine nature tasks for Parks and Recreation Department. The duties outlined will require physical vigor and the ability to follow given specific work instructions. The Laborer I will be under constant supervision and will often assist Laborers II and III and Equipment Operators I in their various tasks. Many of these tasks will be time sensitive. Assignments are outlined in detail by a supervisor, standard procedures are followed, and work is inspected periodically for safety and economy of operation.<br>

<b>What You Should Bring</b><br>
Physical and Environmental Conditions: Duties are generally performed citywide in both outdoor and indoor settings. This is medium to heavy work requiring the exertion of fifty (50) pounds of force occasionally, up to twenty (20) pounds of force frequently, and up to ten (10) pounds of force constantly to move, lift and push objects. Work requires climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, standing, walking, pushing and pulling. This position is subject to outside environmental conditions, including extreme cold, extreme heat, hazards, and atmospheric conditions.<br>

Perform routine ball field maintenance such as dragging, and marking fields, keeping dugouts clean. Clean restrooms and picnic shelters.</li><li>
General park mowing</li><li>
Picks up litter, empties litter cans;</li><li>
Works in the shop area making minor repairs, stocking materials and cleaning equipment;</li><li>
Make&rsquo;s minor repairs on equipment;</li><li>
Power washes litter cans, oil spills and graffiti removal;</li><li>
Shovels snow, rakes leaves, cuts grass, works hose on leaf truck, picks up bio-degradable bags;</li><li>
Restroom Cleaning</li><li>
Operates small hand tools such as drills, saws, blowers, grinders, shop vacs, and weed eaters;</li><li>
Posts no parking signs in areas needing cleaned. Assists in cleaning around vehicles with sweeper operator;</li><li>
Pick&rsquo;s up large items such as white goods, tires, debris dumped or abandoned on street;</li><li>
Works cleaning before and after special events;</li><li>
Paints equipment, special projects and litter cans;</li><li>
Constructs, installs and maintains park facilities e.g.</li><li>
Shelters, benches, trash receptacles, signage and playgrounds;</li><li>
Assists with winterization on all water systems e.g., pools, irrigation systems, fountains, hose bibs;</li><li>
Provides special event support, community day clean ups;</li><li>
Performs related work as required.</li></ul><br>

The City of Alexandria Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities received national accreditation from the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies (CAPRA). National accreditation requires park and recreation agencies to meet 155 standards representing elements of effective and efficient park and recreation operations.</div><br>

<div><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>Minimum &amp; Additional Requirements</b></h2></div>
<div><p>Ability to read and write and carry out simple written instructions; should have at least one year experience in related work; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must be able to collect refuse from back of a refuse truck; ability to use common hand tools; ability to follow oral instructions; ability to perform heavy manual labor daily; and must be able to work in all kinds of weather conditions.<br>

Note: Possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license as may be required by some positions to operate some equipment in this class.</p></div>

</p><p><b>Job Summary</b></p><p>
The City of Manhattan is accepting applications for an Educator II/Group Leader for Little Apple Day Camp/Sunset Zoo/Flint Hills Discovery Center. The Educator II/Group Leader will be responsible for working directly with youth campers, 5 &ndash; 11 years of age, or youth and adult program participants in a variety of arts, culture, and recreation programming. Educators will reflect the mission of the Parks &amp; Recreation Department and uphold each specific division&rsquo;s mission of continuing education in their respective fields. The selected candidate(s) must be able to attend all in-service training sessions.</p><p><b>
Job Duties ?</b></p><ul><li>
Programs all-day activities, including, but not limited to life sports, arts and crafts, games, music, STEAM, culture, environmental science, and outdoor recreational programs.</li><li>
Provides supervision and direction to the youth and/or adults assigned to the group.</li><li>
Assists Camp Directors, Curator of Education, and/or Education Supervisors in the development of programs that are safe, inclusive, age-appropriate, and fun.
</li><li>Carries out the program activities.</li><li>
Accompanies youth campers or program participants on field trips and visits to public recreational facilities. Safely operates motor vehicles to pick up and transport program participants to and from programs, field trips and other daily activities.</li><li>
Maintain independence and flexibility in program delivery to account for changing conditions and participant needs.</li><li>
Fosters positive, healthy relationships with children and adults from diverse backgrounds, including those with intellectual and developmental disabilities.</li><li>
Maintains open communication with program participants and parents of youth enrolled in education programs.</li><li>
FHDC and Sunset Zoo require handling of animals and animal husbandry.</li><li>
Performs minor first aid for injuries that may occur during education programs.</li><li>

Requirements:

Required Knowledge, Skills &amp; Additional Qualifications ?</b></p><ul><li>
High School diploma, GED or equivalent.</li><li>
Experience working with school-age children or school-age youth.</li><li>
Selected candidate(s) may be required to pass a KDHE and/or KBI background check.</li><li>
Selected candidate(s) may be required to pass a TB test.</li><li>
Must be 18 years or older.</li></ul><p><b>
Preferred Knowledge &amp; Skills ?</b></p><ul><li>
Bachelors degree in early childhood, elementary education, recreation, related field, or experience that is necessary to achieve certification as a childcare facility director.</li><li>
One year of college education, or Fifteen (15) hours of college credit in an animal/wildlife, environmental/conservation, natural resources, education, psychology, or sociology related courses. - Some training may be provided.</li><li>
Experience with special needs campers.</li><li>
CPR/First Aid Certification (Can be provided through Parks &amp; Recreation).</li></ul><p><b>

Flint Hills Discovery Center</b><b> - </b>One weekday evening from 6:00 PM &ndash; 9:00 PM; and two weekday mornings from 7:30 AM &ndash; 9:30 AM, as well as a minimum of two weekends each month; from 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM.</p><p><b>
