<div>Job Summary and Responsibilities<div> 
As our Patient Transporter, you will provide essential assistance and transportation for patients and related items across our campus, ensuring a highly customer-sensitive and seamless experience. 
 
Every day you will promptly and safely transport inpatients and outpatients to and from various hospital areas. You will meticulously confirm patient identification, greet and assist in transferring patients, and make conscious observations of patient condition during transport, reporting any issues to appropriate personnel. You will also maintain a clean and organized work area and report any malfunctioning equipment. 
 
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate a strong commitment to patient safety and exceptional customer service for all individuals within our facility. You will be attentive, observant, and capable of performing duties efficiently while upholding the highest standards of care and professionalism.</div><ul><li>
Responsible for transporting patients according to the designated method (stretcher, wheel chair, bed, etc.) and also any other support equipment such as oxygen, monitor, infusion pumps, etc. Transporter should greet the patient, identify themselves and inform the patient where they are being taken and for what purpose. Transporter should wash and/or gel hands prior to handling patient and/or anything in the patient's room.</li><li>
Transport slips will be assigned daily from the Central Transport Dispatcher, with add-on's collected through out the shift. They will then have the appropriate information when confirming patient ID.</li><li>
Patient privacy and comfort must be maintained at all times. Patient's attire must cover them completely or a sheet and/or blanket must be utilized. Patients will be treated with courtesy, respect, and consideration at all times.</li><li>
Notifies Nursing prior to transport and upon returning patient to nursing floor. Transporter must sign patient in and out of the Patient Transport Log Book located at each nurses' station.</li><li>
Prior to transporting patients, the Transporter must collaborate with nursing personnel to determine the level of nursing assistance that will be required; i.e., assure that the patient is ready for transport; nursing personnel will discontinue and reinstate patient therapies such as suction, drainage, etc.</li><li>
Patient Transporters must follow the Patient ID Policy and Procedure, two (2) patient identifiers, name and DOB matching with transport request and have patient state this information to you verbally - if altered mental status, you need to confirm ID with nurse.</li></ul>

<div>Job Summary:
The Patient Transporter performs under the direct supervision of the Central Transport Supervisor. The Patient Transporter is responsible for transporting all patients following hospital and departmental policies while maintaining awareness for opportunities to promote the WE CARE Philosophy. The Patient Transporter is ultimately accountable to the Operations Manager of Central Transportation. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served and identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs.
Performance Expectation:
<ul><li>Demonstrate the ability to safely transport patients of all ages/developmental levels to and from our facility departments.</li>
<li>Demonstrate an ability to follow safety precautions during patient transport to ensure the well-being of oneself, patients, and other staff members (i.e., avoids improper lifting, properly disposes of sharps, maintains infection control procedures, consistently cleans work area on own initiative to facilitate efficient work, and avoids damaging equipment).</li>
<li>Demonstrate an ability to communicate effectively in all interactions with patients, families, visitors and employees while achieving exceptional, sustained quality patient care, satisfaction, and loyalty.</li>
<li>Demonstrate an ability to respond to requests from patient care team members and completes all patient transports within 20 minutes to minimize patient discomfort.</li>
<li>Demonstrate an ability to respond to patients when their condition worsens by appropriately and quickly alerting the RN and patient care team members.</li>

High school diploma or equivalent required, one year of academic undergraduate work preferred. A training program will be required to include transport procedures, use and operation of a utility cart, wheelchair, stretcher, bed, oxygen tank.

Summary:

This position reports to a Supervisor. A EMS Patient Transporter is accountable for responding to all assigned calls in the most appropriate and efficient manner, providing the highest standards of patient care while providing a safe and hazard-free environment. An EMS Patient Transporter provides a high level of customer service to patients and partners at all times. 


Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Returns equipment promptly to proper location after use, using proper infection control procedures. Notifies supervisor when equipment is deficient.</li><li>
Willingly wears radio equipment.</li><li>
Communicates professionally and according to department guidelines while utilizing radio equipment.</li><li>
Maintains radio equipment by returning it daily in good condition.</li><li>
Transport efficiency @ 15 minutes per transport or less.</li><li>

The role of Patient Transporter is to maintain safety and provide exceptional care to patients requiring assistance in moving from one location in the hospital to another including to and from the hospital, or upon discharge. This will be done in an efficient and service oriented manner that aligns with the established policies and procedures of VPNE and our partner hospital.
