This is a remote position. Acts as the first point of contact for customers reaching out to Advocate Aurora through established Patient Access &amp; Care Team (PACT) services for both internal and external partnerships. Supports base PACT initiatives and services accurately documenting each interaction using the electronic medical record. Able to provide wayfinding and/or resolve customer inquiries including but not limited to providing general information, paging providers, front ending symptomatic patients call for nurse triage, updating customer information/demographics, verifying medical records, entering medication refill requests, and scheduling patient appointments.</p><ul><li><p><b>
This position begins with four weeks of MANDATORY training (you must be available for the entirety of training). We are currently accepting applications for our April 6 and 20 training classes. If you have any scheduling conflicts which would prevent you from being available for training, please wait for a future posting to apply to one of our upcoming training classes. Training hours are Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 4:30pm Central Time (9:00am to 5:30pm Eastern Time).</b></p></li></ul><p></p><ul><li><p><b>
After training is complete, you will move into your permanent shift. Available permanent schedules will be discussed during interview process. There are a variety of permanent shifts available and many do include working a weekend day each week. MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:</p><p>
Uses protocols, facility/provider information, and established policies and procedures to seamlessly link the patient experience between the Patient Access &amp; Care Team (PACT) and the practice site.</p><p></p><p>
Uses resources and critical thinking skills to assist inbound callers. Makes outbound calls when required or when follow up is deemed necessary.</p><p></p><p>
Has the ability to recognize complex non-clinical problems and questions and escalates for resolution when needed.</p><p></p><p>
Responsibilities include scheduling patient appointments and coordinating cancellations, reschedules, and additions to schedules. Obtains demographic and insurance information, verifies insurance coverage, and may collect co-pays, deductibles, and previous balances. Ensures insurance and patient information obtained is complete and accurate, updating information if necessary, applying acquired knowledge of government and third-party payer requirements. Updates financial responsibility and other data when changes or additions occur and communicates to patients as appropriate.</p><p></p><p>
Provides referrals to physicians/providers. Completes all essential forms, obtains necessary information, such as patient demographic and insurance information. Verifies and updates the medical record with customer information.</p><p></p><p>
Identifies emergent calls based on information provided by caller and department guidelines. Follows the process for immediate transfer to Registered Nurse for triaging or appropriate more experienced staff for resolution. Responsible for competency in and adherence to guidelines for emergency situations and critical call handling.</p><p></p><p>
Determines the level of care needed by patients calling the call center which results in routing patients for triage, scheduling, rescheduling, and canceling appointments, submitting medication refill requests for evaluation, and paging providers and facilities as appropriate.</p><p></p><p>
Provides customer service per established departmental standards as measured by patients on post call survey. Asks clarifying questions, presents options or solutions, and understands the level of complexity of the call, escalating only those situations necessary for resolution.</p><p></p><p>
Assists with organizational marketing efforts by providing associated information and referral to customer, while maintaining appropriate records for documentation. Conducts regular reporting and updating of the provider and marketing databases.</p><p></p><p>
Performs additional duties based on department needs such as faxing, updating medical records, logs, and reports, managing files/databases, assisting with entering, gathering, organizing, and compiling data for reports.</p><p></p><p>
Maintains knowledge and efficient utilization of all information systems utilized by the department.</p><p></p><p><b>

Summary:</p>
<p>Greets, instructs, directs and schedules patients and visitors. Serves as a liaison between patient and medical support staff. May assist with various duties within the clinic. Verifies insurance benefits and assists with referrals. Collects payments and prepares cash for deposits.</p>
<p>Responsibilities:</p>
<ul><li>Maintains flow of patient check-in, verifies demographic and insurance information and enters into computer database. Assures that information in patient account is accurate.</li><li>
Assists with answering phones, taking messages and assisting with patient and staff inquiries.</li><li>
Responds to CBO requests for patient account corrections and/or maintenance, in a timely manner.</li><li>
Schedules appointments for patients in accordance with physician guidelines.</li><li>
Collects time of service payment amounts; collects prior balance amounts and/or arranging payment plans as requested.</li></ul>
<p>The following duties may also be performed:</p><br>
<ul><li>Checks in patients, verifies and updates necessary information in the medical record. Assists patients with completing all necessary forms.</li><li>
Scheduled appoints according to clinician template and follows office scheduling policies.</li><li>
Assists front office lead/supervisor with other administrative duties such as front end duties, denials, work queues and correct any errors to ensure clean claims.</li><li>
Screens visitors and responds to routine requests for information.</li><li>
Follows the CHRISTUS Health guidelines related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), designed to prevent or detect unauthorized disclosure of Protected Health Information (PHI).</li><li>
Maintains strict confidentiality.</li><li>
Uses oral and written communication skills to effectively convey ideas in a clear, positive manner that is consistent with the CHRISTUS Mission.</li><li>
Maintains established CHRISTUS Health policies, procedures, objectives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control.</li><li>

<p></p>The Patient Access Representative is responsible for the entire scope of the registration process for patients seen at St. Luke's University Health Network, in outpatient and/or Emergency Department locations. This includes, but is not limited to, correctly identifying patients, transcribing orders, completing registration screens, entering diagnosis and provider information, verifying insurances, point of service cash collections, work queues, etc. Communicates and coordinates with SLPG practices, clinical/diagnostic departments, and various revenue cycle departments to ensure excellent patient experience, clean claim submission, and payment for services. May require occasional travel between campuses or regional locations.
<p></p><p><b>JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
</b></p><p></p><ul><li><p>Responsible to correctly identify/validate the choosing of patients in hospital information system to maintain the integrity and accuracy of electronic medical records. Identify and report any instances of possible identify theft situations to clinical department and leadership for appropriate escalation.
</p></li><li><p>Maintain knowledge and education of network policy on Patient Identification including Mark for Merge, Chart Corrections, and Patient Look-Up.
</p></li><li><p>Responsible for the patient registration (pre-reg and post-reg needs) including all of the following: demographics, emergency contact, transcribing diagnostic orders, primary care and referring provider, diagnosis, insurance and guarantor verification, real time insurance eligibility, point of service cash collections. This also includes patient, account, and claim edit level work queue errors related to registration. Can require contacting provider office, reviewing patient medical chart for diagnosis and medical necessity information.
</p></li><li><p>Required to cross train in all areas of location or region. Campus locations must be cross trained in outpatient and Emergency Department areas. Outpatient (off-campus) locations must be cross trained for all locations if any different nuances.
</p></li><li><p>Greets/directs patients and visitors for the entire facility. Always provides friendly and courteous service to community and co-workers. Responsible for monitoring and enforcing visitor policy for the entity (if applicable).
</p></li><li><p>Answers internal and external calls on main department/facility line and dispenses appropriate information and answers questions regarding the facility and its services.
</p></li><li><p>Promotes and helps increase usage of MyChart patient portal and patient self-service capabilities to ensure patients are personally engaging in their health care.
</p></li><li><p>Responsible for overseeing and assisting patients with Welcome Kiosk and On My Way technology at network locations. Consists of self-scheduled patients online and monitoring the arrival process and patient&rsquo;s journey throughout their visit.
</p></li><li><p>Responsible for contacting the SLPG practice or Network Prior Authorization Department to obtain required insurance referrals and pre-certs when not previously documented in chart prior to service to decrease denials for no authorization.
</p></li><li><p>Must obtain medical license Number, NPI and UPIN via appropriate website for all new provider entries for outpatient services to ensure results are routed accurately and claim submission/payment.
</p></li></ul><p></p><p><b>PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
</b></p><p></p><p>Sitting/standing up to 8 hours per day, 4 or more hours at a time. Frequent use of hands/fingers for data entry. JOB SUMMARY
</b></p><p>The Patient Account Representative is responsible for working accounts to ensure they are resolved in a timely manner. This candidate should have a solid understanding of the Revenue Cycle as it relates to the entire life of a patient account from creation to payment. Representative will need to effectively follow-up on claim submission, remittance review for insurance collections, create and pursue disputed balances from both government and non-government entities. Basic knowledge of Commercial, Managed Care, Medicare and Medicaid insurance is preferable. An effective revenue cycle process is achieved with working as part of a dynamic team and the ability to adapt and grow in an environment where work assignments may change frequently while resolving accounts with minimal assistance.
</p><p>Representative must be able to work independently as well as work closely with management and team to take appropriate steps to resolve an account. Team member should possess the following:</p>

<li>Researches each account using company patient accounting applications and internet resources that are made available. Conducts appropriate account activity on uncollected account balances with contacting third party payors and/or patients via phone, e-mail, or online. Problem solves issues and creates resolution that will bring in revenue eliminating re-work. Updates plan IDs, adjusts patient or payor demographic/insurance information, notates account in detail, identifies payor issues and trends and solves re-coup issues. Requests additional information from patients, medical records, and other needed documentation upon request from payors. Reviews contracts and identify billing or coding issues and request re-bills, secondary billing, or corrected bills as needed. Takes appropriate action to bring about account resolution timely or opens a dispute record to have the account further researched and substantiated for continued collection. Maintains desk inventory to remain current without backlog while achieving productivity and quality standards.
</li><li>Perform special projects and other duties as needed. Assists with special projects as assigned, documents, findings, and communicates results.
</li><li>Recognizes potential delays and trends with payors such as corrective actions and responds to avoid A/R aging. Escalates payment delays/ problem aged account timely to Supervisor.</li>
<li>Participate and attend meetings, training seminars and in-services to develop job knowledge.</li>
<li>Respond timely to emails and telephone messages as appropriate.
</li><li>Ensures compliance with State and Federal Laws Regulations for Managed Care and other Third Party Payors.</li>
