Under direct supervision of a licensed Nurse or other professional medical staff in a health care setting, performs a variety of clerical and health-related essential duties and responsibilities associated with patient care; performs related work.</p><p><b>
Examples of Typical Tasks</b>:</p><p>
1. Checks vital signs, weighs, and measures patients, obtains specimens and records findings on patient&rsquo;s chart.</p><p>
2. Instructs patients on how to obtain specimens for laboratory testing and performs basic specimen screening<br>
testing through dipstick and hemoccult.</p><p>
3. Prepares collected specimens for pick-up by labeling and preparing required form(s).</p><p>
4. Performs vision and hearing testing and simple urinalysis.</p><p>
5. Administers emergency first aid, including basic life support procedures.</p><p>
6. Performs simple first aid such as dressing changes, bandaging and cleansing of wounds, irrigation and cleansing of ears.</p><p>
7. Prepares patient for examination and assists medical provider during examination by providing necessary<br>

8. Prepares examination room including cleaning and disinfecting of instruments and equipment.</p><p>
9. Informs patients on proper preparation for various medical testing.</p><p>
10. Interviews patient to obtain routine personal and medical information and appropriate health history.</p><p>
11. Maintains, completes, processes and files patients&rsquo; charts, appropriate forms and documents.</p><p>
12. Reports observations of patient to clinical staff caring for patient to ensure professional assessment.</p><p>
13. Answers routine inquiries of patients in person or via telephone and makes appropriate referrals.</p><p>
14. Provides information to patients and their families regarding health care services and the achievement of<br>
healthy, safe living.</p><p>
15. Maintains inventory of the unit&rsquo;s equipment stock and supplies.</p><p>
16. Works effectively as a team member in the delivery of care and assists in the orientation of new employees.</p><p>
17. Directs and escorts patients to other departments and/or health care settings, as needed.</p><p>
18. Coordinates efforts of various clinic and health care setting departments in scheduling and re-booking appointments through manual and/or automated systems and enters pertinent patient information into the Electronic Medical Record systems.</p><p>
19. Obtains blood specimens for laboratory testing by performing venipuncture and/or fingerstick testing.</p><p>
20. Operates electrocardiograph equipment to record electrical wave tracing of the electrical currents of the heart muscle.</p>

electrocardiography (EKG), or completion of a training program or programs that include the performance of phlebotomy and EKG, such as Phlebotomy Technician and EKG Technician training programs, a Patient Care training program, or a Medical Assistant training program; and<br>
3. Holds, or obtains through facility orientation, a valid and current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association (AHA).<br>

The NYU Acute Respiratory Failure and Sepsis Precision Interventions (ASPIRE) Trials Program seeks a full-time Research Data Associate to support several clinical studies. Our Trials Program conducts single- and multi-center clinical trials and cohort studies to advance understanding and improve care of patients with respiratory failure, pneumonia, and sepsis. The overarching theme of our research is to develop strategies to individualize clinical support to maximize end-organ protection and improve patient outcomes.</p>
<p>
The RDA will assist in the daily study-related activities of multiple studies and clinical trials involving patients in the ICUs and other inpatient units at NYU-affiliated hospitals. RDA must be comfortable working with critically ill adult patients on life support, the population of interest for most of the studies, and interacting with their family members. RDA must demonstrate excellent communication and interpersonal skills and be able to work effectively within a multiprofessional team that includes physicians, pharmacists, nurses, respiratory therapists, and research staff. Strong organizational skills, adaptability, and professionalism are essential to foster collaboration and ensure efficient trial operations. The ability to actively listen, resolve conflicts constructively, and contribute to shared decision-making will be critical to success in this role.</p><br>

<li>Demonstrate knowledge of policies and procedures of the host institution where the study is being conducted, including the regulatory requirements such as IRB and other approvals if necessary.</li>
<li>Under supervision, acts as an internal auditor during quarterly internal audits for other studies, is aware of study regulatory status and keeps an up to date copy of regulatory documents.</li>
<li>Initiates and continues regular contact with patients; encourages visit reminders and compliance to research; ensures contact with patients and their families is courteous, effective, professional and cooperative.</li>
<li>Utilizes established methodologies to collect patient information for the research project(s); gathers and compiles data, statistics and other materials as needed. Inputs clinical and non-clinical data into the database and or case report forms. With guideance, extracts data for publications, or provides data collection from outside physicians offices. May perform library searches and retrieve reference materials from various sources; request articles from medical journals.</li>
<li>Compiles data and assists in consolidating data for presentation to sponsoring and regulatory agencies. Reviews data with supervisor and then provides reports to all parties (e.g., data and safety monitoring committee, the principal investigator, sponsoring agency, etc.) on the progress of the study.</li>

Perform data extraction from medical records for clinical trials and cohort studies<br>
Perform bedside patient assessments and examinations for research, including sedation depth, non-verbal pain assessment, and delirium assessment, among other assessments<br>
Perform bedside data collection for critically ill adult patients, including those with pneumonia and viral respiratory infections<br>
Obtain biological specimens for enrolled study participants, including but not limited to venous and arterial blood samples, nasal or oropharyngeal respiratory swabs, airway samples (sputum, breath condensate, tracheal aspirate), and urine/stool samples as needed for study protocols
<br>
Assist with initiating and adjusting study-related devices and monitors according to study protocol, in collaboration with the clinical and research teams where applicable<br>
Perform other bedside procedures as required by study protocol<br>
Assist with performing protein biomarker measurements with ELISA and multi-analyte platforms under supervision of the research laboratory manager<br>
Receive, label, process, and log unique and irreplaceable human biospecimen samples<br>
Prepare biospecimen collection kits and other materials for NYU and other sites participating in our clinical studies<br>
Conduct long-term follow-up phone questionnaires of study participants<br>

The Library Assistant will collaborate with branch circulation supervisors, the systems librarian, and reference librarians.
