As a vital member of the health care team, you will ensure the safe and timely transport of patients throughout the hospital, supporting clinical staff and enhancing the patient experience. Your role combines compassionate, patient-centered care with close attention to safety protocols, equipment handling, and infection prevention. By providing efficient transport services and maintaining essential equipment, you play a key role in smooth hospital operations and patient comfort.
What you'll do
<ul><li>Ensure the safe, timely, and accurate transport of patients to their destination via bed, stretcher or wheelchair.</li>
<li>Safely transfer patients from bed to stretcher or wheelchair and back.</li>
<li>Alert nursing staff immediately to any signs of patient distress or equipment malfunction.</li>
</ul>Required qualifications
<ul><li>The right candidate will possess the ability to learn, understand and apply knowledge of basic transport concepts, infection control practices and proper body mechanics.</li>
<li>Must be able to perform essential physical tasks such as walking, standing, lifting, bending and reaching for extended periods, up to 10 hours per shift, with or without reasonable accommodation.</li>

<ul><li>Basic Life Support (BLS) certification to be obtained within 90 days of hire.</li>

Position Summary

Under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, and in accordance with defined policies and procedures for the unit, the Patient Care Assistant (PCA) provides technical patient care to a defined patient population, as assigned by the Registered Nurse. Duties may include the performance of basic technical skills not requiring licensure, such as, but not limited to: gathering patient data, assisting patients with activities of daily living (ADLs), transporting patients, supporting department maintenance activities (stocking patient rooms, moving equipment, ordering and procuring supplies, etc.), providing basic customer services (directions, visitor control, and other functions), as needed. <div>Cabell Huntington Hospital is seeking a full-time Patient Care Assistant to work with our team in the Mother Baby Unit. 
 
The Patient Care Assistant works in a supporting role to nursing by conducting patient care activities. Applicants provide direct and indirect non-professional nursing care under nursing or medical supervision. Primarily this includes but is not limited to performing duties such as cleaning, taking vital signs, obtaining lab specimens, charting, escorting patients, assisting with activities of daily living, managing clerical duties and ordering and receiving supplies. 
 
Candidates interviewed for this role will be asked to present proof of required degrees, certificates and/or certifications at the time of the interview. Candidates unwilling or unable to provide said documentation will not be considered. 
 
To be considered, candidates must provide documentation of an 80% or higher score on the Medical Terminology exam, and proof of satisfactory completion of a Medical Assistant degree or Certified Nurses Aide certification.
Requirements:
