Position Summary: 
Responsible for all patient accounts receivable functions as assigned. Reconcile, research, correct and submit third party claims and resubmit errors or denied claims. Communicate with insurance companies and government payers to resolve claim issues and ensure payment. Research and correct ICD 9, CPT coding, modifiers, revenue coding, occurrence codes and value codes as appropriate. Collaborate with the Income Support Division and the Medical Assistance Division in regards to eligibility for Medicaid. Interview and approve patients for UNMH charity programs. Provide customer service to patients by researching billing issues with various departments and resolving the issues. Reconcile remittance advices and patient accounts and resolve discrepancies. Detailed responsibilities:

PATIENT SERVICES REPRESENTATIVE

<div><div>POSITION SUMMARY:</div> 

The Patient Services Representative will provide patients and staff with necessary assistance in fulfilling the needs of the center. They are responsible for patient check in/out, verifying and updating all demographics and insurances, collecting payments, identifying/enrolling patients on the Sliding Fee Scale, processing various forms and documents, and notifying appropriate persons of messages and information as required. Responsible for recording all necessary personal information, securing required signatures, preparing and supplying data to various departments. Will assist with efficient and effective coverage for the Patient Services Department. <div>ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</div>

Performs opening and closing procedures.
</li><li>Answers and accurately processes multi-line phone calls to individual extensions or operator, medical, or billing queues regarding patient billing, appointments, and general inquiries.</li><li>
Responsible for scheduling, cancelling, or rescheduling appointments.
</li><li>Responsible for check in/out processes of each patient. Verifies and updates patient demographics, insurance and eligibility, unapplied credits, and guarantor due balances for all new and established patients.</li><li>
Collection of appropriate payment based on estimated charge, proper co-pay, deductible, discounted self-pay amount, or past due account balances.</li><li>
Responsible for cash management and daily reconciliation of all financial transactions performed.</li><li>
Patient accounts analysis including a general understanding of medical, dental, laboratory, radiology coding and billing standards. This includes ICD 10, diagnosis, patient rights and responsibilities, third party reimbursement, in/out network, contractual allowances, co-pays and deductibles.</li><li>
Verifies/updates insurance eligibility and reviews co-pays, co-insurance, deductibles, non-covered charges, and prior authorizations.

What does the Patient Benefits Representative do? (including, but not limited to):
The Patient Benefits Representative, under general supervision is responsible for educating patient on insurance coverage and benefits. Assess patients financial ability; may educate patient on assistance programs. Updates and maintains existing patient new insurance eligibility, coverage, and benefits in system. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, to include the Code of Ethics and Business Standards, and US Oncology&rsquo;s Shared Values.
Responsibilities:

Prior to a patient receiving treatment; obtains insurance coverage information and demographics; educates patient on insurance coverage, benefits, co-pays, deductibles, and out-of-pocket expenses.

May educate patients on financial assistance programs as well as identify sources and provide assistance with completing forms. Based upon diagnosis, estimated insurance coverage, and financial assistance, completes Patient Cost Estimate form.
</li><li>Completes appropriate reimbursement and liability forms for patient&rsquo;s review and signature. Forwards appropriate information and forms to billing office.</li><li>

Summary:
The Patient Access Representative Senior performs duties relating to financial aspects of patient care, including financial counseling, billing and collection of accounts. STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE<ul><li>

Licensure, Certification, Registration: None Required. Will be required to attain Hometown Health Certification in Financial Counseling by the 90-day review.
Work Experience: Working knowledge of health insurance, deductibles, co-pays, and co-insurance required. Minimum of twenty-four months (2 years) experience in customer service, patient registration, and collections preferred. The job requires a comfort level without of pocket collections activities, as well as a thorough understanding of the accuracy needed for the capture of demographic and third-party payer information.</div>
