<div><p><b>Job Objective</b><b>:</b></p>
<p>
Under the immediate management of the Central Transport Supervisor or designee, the Patient Transport Attendant provides transportation of patients throughout the hospital, delivery of beds, gurneys and wheelchairs to units, exchange of portable O2 tanks throughout the hospital, and other special tasks to maintain department functions.</p>
<p><b>
Duties and Responsibilities:</b></p>
<ul><li>
Assist patients in and out of bed, using proper safe patient handling techniques</li><li>
Uses wheelchair, gurneys, and other similar mechanisms appropriate to patient needs and safe practice.</li><li>
Communicates effectively with hospital staff prior to moving patients.</li><li>
Ability to achieve and maintain a departmental response time and turnaround time established by the department&rsquo;s management team</li><li>
Ability to assess the patient&rsquo;s needs prior and during transport.</li><li>
Follows through with task or special projects.</li><li>
Reports defective wheelchairs, gurneys, and other similar mechanisms to responsible party.</li><li>
Cleans and maintains all patient transport equipment as needed</li><li>
Demonstrates knowledge regarding special needs and behaviors of age specific groups.</li><li>
Follows established department procedures to accurately verify and transport the proper patient by using proper patient identifiers established by National Patient Safety Goals.</li><li>
Verifies mode of transportation, obtains patient chart, required paperwork, required linen and/or equipment.</li><li>
Transports patient, chart, and required equipment to various treatment and or diagnostic areas throughout the hospital in a safe and effective manner 100% of the time.</li><li>
Provides emergency assistance to patients who become ill during the transport process until proper staff can be notified and assistance arrives.</li><li>
Reports to nursing units/procedural areas and notifies nursing staff/techs of patient being transported and destination.</li><li>
Initiates or assists in transfer process from bed to mode of transportation. Requests and obtains instruction/assistance from nursing staff for patients that require isolation techniques, two-man lifts, etc.</li><li>
Safely and effectively uses all equipment necessary to carry out duties.</li><li>
Uses Universal Precautions at all times.</li></ul>

Hospital-wide, as a member of a Transport TEAM, provides timely individual patient transport via wheelchair or cart, primarily for designated inpatients and occasional outpatients, transporting patients for designated testing, therapy, treatment, pre or post-operative care or admission/discharge. Shift assignment of patient transporter employees is pre-set by the Patient Transporter, Supervisor, who also performs dispatching duties throughout the day-shift (peak transport times) via cell phone to each TEAM patient transporter. Responsible to coordinate patient transport with assigned charge nurse (inpatient) or technician and then safely and efficiently transport the patient, IV equipment, monitoring equipment, the medical record and oxygen equipment as required with any assigned transport. In addition, job assignments may include stock maintenance/distribution of oxygen tanks and regulators to assigned departments in the hospital.</p><br>

 is looking for a PRN Patient Transporter to join our team!

 <br/>
 The Patient Transporter is responsible for providing transportation services to patients who need to be moved to and from various units at the Hospital. The incumbent is also responsible for the equipment (wheelchairs and stretchers) used to transport patients. The position works independently and as part of a team.
 <br/>
 <br/>
 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
 <br/>
 <br/>
 <ul>
  <li>
   Transport patients to and from units and various therapy/laboratory areas while ensuring patient safety, comfort, and privacy/modesty by complying with established policies and procedures.
  </li>
  <li>
   Follow directives provided by clinical staff regarding the transport request (i.e., proper head elevation, oxygen level, etc.).
  </li>
  <li>
   Check two patient identifiers (i.e., wristband, birthdate, etc.) to confirm the correct patient is being transported.
  </li>
  <li>
   Follow proper positioning techniques for patients in mode of transport (e.g., wheelchair footrests supporting feet) while also correctly positioning treatment devices such as drainage bags and IVs for transit.
  </li>
  <li>
   Observe the patient&rsquo;s condition and that of patient care equipment during the transport and report occurrence of patient symptoms and equipment alarms to clinical staff upon arrival at destination.
  </li>
  <li>
   Manage transportation equipment, making sure it is available when needed by utilizing.
  </li>
  <li>
   Clean equipment in accordance with Infectious Disease Control policy.
  </li>
  <li>
   Reports equipment defects and safety hazards to supervisor or Nurse Manager.
  </li>

   Perform other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities*</b></h2><p>
Transportation staff will arrive at the unit with the transport vehicle (i.e. stretcher or wheelchair) specified at the time of request, stop at the Nursing station to retrieve chart and/or card, report to patient room, greet the patient by name, identify the patient by armband, introduce themselves to the parents, patient and nursing staff as appropriate. Assist the patient and/or nursing with the physical transfer of the patient onto the vehicle and transport patient to the appointment. Bodies of deceased patients will be transported to the Morgue by transport personnel.</p><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>

Performs a variety of duties involving the transportation of patients throughout the hospital. Assists nursing staff in the physical, lateral transfer of patients before and after patient transport. Collects and delivers items to and from areas including the Labs, Pharmacy, Radiology, Medical Records, S.P.D., Mail Room and patient care areas. Cleans, sanitizes and delivers beds and transport equipment; maintains job activity logs as required.<div></div><div>
I. Major Responsibilities:<br>
1. Escorts ambulatory patients. Transports patient by wheelchair, stretcher or bed. Prior to transport, verifies identification of all patients assigned by checking 2 identifiers and signing off on Safe Patient Transport Forms; notifies clinician if discrepancy on forms. To ensure patient comfort and safety during transport process, monitors and responds to basic patient needs before, during and after transport. Provides appropriate handoff communication when patient is delivered to receiving unit.<br>
2. Assists nursing staff and/or lift tech in moving and positioning of patients using various lift devices in preparation of patient for transport and returning patient to bed. Includes lateral transfer of patients on precaution status that requires Patient Transporter to use personal protection equipment and to follow infection control process per precaution isolation-type.<br>
3. Delivers stretchers, beds, cribs and wheelchairs as needed. Assists in deep-cleaning of all transport equipment on a biannual basis. Sanitizes transport vehicles and ancillary equipment between patient use.<br>
4. Transports patient specimens to and from the Lab, Pathology, and blood products to/from the Blood Bank in accordance with established infection control guidelines. Transports contaminated equipment to Sterile Processing within same infection control guidelines.<br>
5. Delivers other materials such as medical records, pharmaceuticals, X-ray films, sterile items, and miscellaneous reports and items as required.<br>
6. Checks E-cylinders (portable O2 tanks) for content; distributes/exchanges E-cylinders throughout the hospital.<br>
7. Interacts with a web-based dispatch system TDSS via alpha paging for job assignment; maintains individual Transporter Trip Log and other statistical records as required.<br>
8. May participate in Emergency Department triage transport assignment during disaster situations including CODE HELP, assist in transport of trauma patients and transport of deceased victims to the morgue. Guides and assists patients through decontamination unit.<br>
9. May assume the role of a dispatcher if trained and as directed.</div><div></div><div>
