POSITION SUMMARY<br>
This position transports patients and distributes requested items as needed throughout the facility in accordance with department/facility policies, procedures and protocols.<br>

CORE FUNCTIONS<br>
1. Transports patients safely and efficiently between various departments following appropriate transfer techniques and proper isolation/infection control procedures. Validates patients&rsquo; identity based on established department protocol. Remains alert to patient condition and promptly communicates changes to clinical staff.<br>

2. Assists with patient handling and lifting using appropriate patient safety equipment and appropriate safety procedures.<br>

3. Provides distribution services of requested items between various departments as needed in accordance with established procedures that may include medications.<br>

4. Responds to all job calls in a timely manner. May utilize computer system to track and update requests. Communicates status updates and location information as required in accordance with department protocols to help facilitate work flow.<br>

5. Collects, cleans and disinfects patient care equipment and all other reusable items.<br>

6. May perform supply restocking or assume clerical duties of assigned area as necessary.<br>

<b>Responsibilities
</b><div><ul><li>Performs all Patient Transport Tech 3 responsibilities plus the following responsibilities:
</li></ul><ul><li>Assigns patient and equipment transport routes and reviews and adds additional pick-up/delivery stops as necessary in an efficient and cost effective manner
</li></ul><ul><li>Understands all aspects of daily patient flow and adjusts personnel allocation to fill the demand
</li></ul><ul><li>Receives, researches and resolves customer issues regarding services and equipment/supplies
</li></ul><ul><li>Troubleshoots issues with rental beds, iPads, and other equipment and technology
</li></ul><ul><li>Accesses and navigates competently through Hill-Rom and KCI websites to charge out rental beds and Wound Vacs
</li></ul><ul><li>Operates in PeopleSoft and uses Smartsheet to enter data proficiently.
</li></ul><ul><li>Maintains, restocks, and tracks expiration dates in code cart items.
</li></ul><ul><li>Plans and coordinates expedited courier requests, assuring efficient flow and delivery of mail, supplies, and products
</li></ul><ul><li>Leads daily/nightly functions and directs the allocation of supplies and employees throughout the facility
</li></ul><ul><li>Facilitates transportation of emergency and/or special requests for supplies, IV solutions, or equipment, coordinating with the Supply Replenishment Tech and Receiving teams, in addition to the courier team
</li></ul><ul><li>Update emergency equipment inventory forms
</li></ul><ul><li>Inspect restraints before being redeployed
</li></ul><ul><li>Receives and coordinates patient transport and equipment/supply requests and determines the most efficient means of transport
</li></ul><ul><li>Processes paper work associated with emergency/special request services
</li></ul><ul><li>Maintains emergency equipment inventory forms
</li></ul><ul><li>Ensures incoming emergency/special request supplies/equipment are delivered immediately upon receipt
</li></ul><ul><li>Capable of performing warehouse runs when supplies are needed urgently during off-hours
</li></ul><ul><li>Acts as a liaison when management leaders and supervisors are not available.
</li></ul><ul><li>Performs Trainer functions for new Patient Transporters when supervisor and management is unable to perform such duties
</li></ul><ul><li>Certifies employees in equipment competencies.
</li></ul><ul><li>Performs N95 respiratory fit test employees.
</li></ul><ul><li>Contributes to the success of the organization, keeping current on new developments within the D-H system
</li></ul><ul><li>Other duties as required or assigned

<b>Qualifications
</b><ul><li>High School graduate or equivalent
</li><li>Three years of experience as a Patient Transporter at D-H
</li><li>Two years of experience in Distribution, Receiving, or Courier Service
</li><li>Two years lead or supervisory experience preferred
</li><li>Skilled in interpersonal, oral, and written communication, grammar and spelling.
</li><li>Ability to delegate and provide direction to staff effectively
</li><li>Ability to work efficiently under pressure, work independently, take initiative, set priorities and use good judgment
</li>Ability to meet organization and departmental appearance standards<br>

 Transportation staff will arrive at the unit with the transport vehicle (i.e., stretcher or wheelchair) specified at the time of request, stop at the Nursing station to retrieve chart and/or card, report to the patient room, greet the patient by name, identify the patient by armband, and introduce themselves to the parents, patient, and nursing staff as appropriate. Assist the patient and/or nursing with the physical transfer of the patient onto the vehicle and transport the patient to the appointment. Bodies of deceased patients will be transported to the Morgue by transport personnel.

 High school diploma, GED or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must be able to perform a wide range of physical activities, including pushing, pulling, lifting, bending, kneeling, reaching, etc. Must be able to read and write English.
