ROLE OVERVIEW and PURPOSE

The Pediatric Dentist (dental specialist aka Pedodontist) works to support the mission and vision of Neighborhood Healthcare (NHC) by providing comprehensive oral healthcare to infants, children, and adolescents. This role will perform diagnostic, therapeutic, and restorative procedures and services as well as emphasize preventative care. Educating patients and managing dental anxieties is central to this role.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Direct Patient Care
<ul>
<li>Conducts, develops, and/or confirms suitable individualized in-house pediatric diagnosis and care plan based on dental conditions</li>
<li><ul><li>Reviewing patients' medical history and discussing their symptoms and concerns</li>
<li>Utilizing dental instruments and imaging equipment to determine the cause of patients' oral pain and discomfort</li>
</ul></li><li>Provides appropriate pediatric dental care/services (therapeutic and restorative), in compliance with standard of care</li>
<li>Performs dental procedures and services that are within the approved skills profile and/or scope of practitioner/practice</li>
<li>Observes, assesses, and records patients&rsquo; symptoms, reactions, and treatments progress</li>
<li>Educates the patient and parent/guardian in the prevention of dental caries and other dental conditions</li>
<li>Prescribes medications and provides patients with pertinent medication instructions, as needed</li>
<li>Reasonably accepting of additional patients into the schedule, as feasible</li>
<li>Accommodates patients with urgent dental needs, including walk-ins</li>
<li>Referring patients when treatment modalities are not available at the clinic or outside scope (i.e. general anesthesia services)</li>

Team Support

<li>Lead your team, dental assistants, hygienists, and other staff members to ensure smooth patient care and treatment coordination</li>
<li>Works with dental team to facilitate prescription refills and paperwork completion</li>
<li>Provides dental backup to NHC dental sites and clinicians, as needed and available</li>
</ul><ul><li>Provides supervision, consultations, instructions to Dental Assistants and other health care delivery team members in NHC dental sites, as needed</li>
<li>Serves as preceptor to dental and paraprofessional students placed with NHC</li>
</ul>
Clinical Administration
<ul>
<li>Minimizes rescheduling of patients; provides instructions if necessary</li>
<li>Completes and submits daily billing to reflect accurate coding and charges of all services rendered</li>
</ul><ul><li>Works with management on improving efficiency, patient flow, program development, and revenues</li>
</ul><ul><li>Maintains necessary credentialing, licensure, and continuing education requirements</li>
<li>Assists management with employee evaluations for the Dental PSRs or Dental Assistants, as needed</li>
<li>Participates in audits, peer reviews, patient satisfactions, protocol developments, meetings, and in-servicing trainings as available and appropriate</li>
<li>Contributes to the success of NHC by participating in quality improvement activities</li>
<li>Completes legible and legally defensible dental records</li></ul> 


EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
<ul>
<li>Doctorate degree in Dental Medicine (DMD) or Dental Surgery (DDS) required</li>
<li>Completion of a post-doctoral residency program in Pediatric Dentistry approved by ADA/CODA</li>
<li>Proven experience working as a Pediatric Dentist (prefer a minimum 2 years of experience in this dental specialty)</li>
<li>Valid CA Dental License required</li>
<li>Current CA DEA licensure is required and is to be maintained as a condition of employment</li>
</ul><ul><li>Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification though an American Heart Association (AHA)- Approved source is required upon hire and must be maintained as a condition of employment.
<ul><li>AHA- approved courses include an in-person, hands-on skills check with a certified instructor using a mannequin to demonstrate CPR and emergency response techniques.</li>
<li>Online-only BLS courses without a live skills check do not meet this requirement</li>
