Summary: 
Provides support service for the perioperative patient, to include safe and efficient flow of patient care, cleaning and disinfecting of surgical surfaces, equipment and positioning devices.

Requirements:<ul><li>

Licensure/Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider. Preferred: Certified Nursing Assistant.</li><li>

</h3>The Lead Perioperative Assistant is responsible for providing clinical support to OR staff to prepare rooms for surgery. Also records implantable items into the tracking system. Orders outside equipment as directed by charge nurse. Stocks OR rooms and sub-sterile areas. Gathers supplies, equipment and instruments for each procedure. Cleans the OR room between procedures.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
<ul><li>Spread and set up OR rooms (i.e., picked tables, supplies, positioning devices, equipment).
</li><li>Open sterile supplies ensuring to maintain sterile field.
</li><li>Assists with connection of OR equipment.
</li><li>Prepare for eye cases by picking lenses in accordance with orders.
</li><li>Enter tissue/allografts/bone grafts into Epic.
</li><li>Communicate with SPD regarding instrument turnover.
</li><li>Push OR charges from surgery center. Relief for OR charge analyst when needed.
</li><li>Resource person regarding supply locations, procedural questions and general information regarding upcoming cases.
</li><li>Orients and trains new staff.
</li><li>Identifies patients by reading name band and comparing to transport request. Transports patients by wheelchair, stretcher, or by assisted walking. Applies warm blankets to patient and directs family member or caregivers to waiting room.
</li></ul>PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Must have the ability to sit for 2 hours per day, and up to 1 total consecutive hour. Must be able to stand for 10 total hours per day and up to 8 total consecutive hours. Must be able to walk 6 total hours per day and up to 10 total consecutive minutes. Must have the ability to frequently use fingers, hands for fingering and handling. Must have the ability to use upper extremities for frequent pushing of objects up to 10 pounds and occasional pushing of objects up to 75 pounds. Must have the ability for frequent stooping and bending. Must have the ability for frequent reaching above the shoulder level. Must have the ability for touching as it relates to feeling objects by touching with skin, particularly that of fingertips. EDUCATION:
High School Diploma or GED, preferred. Basic skills of reading and comprehension. Basic Computer skills.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Perioperative Assistant or equivalent experience in similar setting. Ability to complete Basic Life Support upon hire. Successful completion of Interventional Crises management training on safe handling of patients upon hire. Ability to learn computer systems required for documentation.

DEPT. SCOPE OF SERVICE:
Perioperative Services consists of the Operating Room (OR), Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), Ambulatory Care Unit (ACU), Endoscopy, Minor Procedures and Sterile Processing Dept. Patients are cared for from 10 months until the end of life. General surgery, OB/GYN, orthopedic, urology, dental, ophthalmology, and podiatry are performed in the three rooms. Endoscopy is performed in the Endo suite or OR Rooms. Cesarean sections are performed in the Birthing Center operating room.
Perioperative Services is staffed by Registered Nurses, Surgical Technologists, Scheduler/Assistant Staffing Coordinators, Sterile Processing Technicians, LNA, Operating Room Assistant, OR &amp; ACU/ PACU Supervisors and a Director of Perioperative Services.
The OR provides care 24 hrs a day, each day of the year for patients aged ten months until the end of life. The OR&rsquo;s elective schedule is from 7:00am to 3:30pm. Care is coordinated between physician offices, the OR, Anesthesiology, and the Perioperative Director. Predictable starting times for surgery and admitting times for patients are established by the Director or designee.
The PACU has an area for the immediate preoperative care and reassessment of patients for surgery, for the admission and discharge of select ACU patients, and primarily, for the provision of intensive observation and care of patients following operative and special procedures.
Sterile Processing processes and decontaminates instruments and equipment for the OR and Nursing Units house wide.
The ACU, cares for surgical /medical patients, and providing pre and postoperative care and education services.
Pre Anesthesia Screening area is staffed by a RN&rsquo;s, Workflow Coordinator and Unit Secretary. Patients are interviewed prior to surgery, pre-op consults and test results reviewed and anesthesia guidelines followed to assure adequate patient assessment and preparation prior to surgery.

Under supervision the Operating Room Assistant II provides general support to Nursing staff in the Operating Room. Activities focus on maintaining a safe, hazard free, clean environment that facilitates patient focused care. OR Assistants handle equipment and supplies, clean and decontaminate Operating Rooms and equipment, transport patients, and operate and perform routine maintenance on a variety of technical equipment used in the operating room. Assists with providing patient care in the Operating Room under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse and the Lead OR assist.

Required qualifications:
<ul><li>National Provider BLS - American Heart Association upon hire.</li>
<li>6 months of Internal OR Assistant I candidates: Operating Room Assistant experience with completion of Operating Room Assistant competency program.</li>
<li>1 year of External candidates: Experience as Operating Room Assistant or equivalent in a hospital based operating room.</li>
</ul>Preferred qualifications:
<ul><li>Coursework/Training: Completed training as a Certified Nursing Assistant.</li>

This position is responsible for providing a wide variety of duties including; assisting with transport of patients independently transporting patients, assisting with positioning of patients, monitoring equipment and supply par levels, restocking, cleaning and set-up of patient bays and retrieval of beds

Job Description:

Essential Responsibilities:
<div><ul><li>Communicates with patients/families, management and members of the healthcare team clearly and courteously. Helps to facilitate a cooperative and positive work environment. Cross-covers for UCO during absences (PACU only).</li></ul>
<ul><li>Transports patients as directed, maintaining a conscious regard for their comfort and safety. Assists nurse in patient care by lifting and positioning patients. May assist with other patient care tasks, as directed, (i.e. preps).</li></ul>
<ul><li>Provides assistance to nursing staff during patient admission/discharge by anticipating needs, i.e. infusion pumps, Baer Hugger, PCA/Epidural pumps, monitors, oxygen tanks, setting up stretchers/beds with oxygen tank and mask, IV pole, pillow, blanket. Transports patients to and from inpatient units with assistance or independently.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Accompanies outpatients to lobby and waits with then until their transportation arrives. Assists them into their vehicle (PACU only). Transports patients to other parts of the hospital as required. Picks up and delivers medications/specimens as directed. Obtains or returns blood products to/from Blood Bank as directed.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Cleans patients&rsquo; equipment including: monitors, cables and specialty equipment. Assists in manpower support for moves, special set-ups and any other occasion when a larger than normal group is needed. Restocking of supplies on unit including bedside cards, infusion, epidural, and PCA pumps from the distribution center. Stocks warmers with blankets, solutions. Stocks pods, cleaning supplies.</li></ul>
