Job Summary</b></h2><p>
Specialty Pharmacy Services supports a growing range of patient populations, including Transplant, Hepatitis, Multiple Sclerosis, Rheumatology, Oncology, and many other disease states. Our team is committed to guiding patients throughout their entire treatment journey by providing comprehensive support ranging from timely financial counseling and clinical education to reliable mail-order medication delivery.</p><p>
Specialty Pharmacy Technicians work within one of two operational areas. Requirements, duties, and responsibilities align respectively. Cross coverage and movement between teams is possible dependent on departmental and patient care needs.</p><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>
Responsibilities*</b></h2><p>
Pharmacy Technician duties may include:</p><ul><li>
Answer incoming and outgoing communications to/from patients, arranging timely shipment and delivery of medications.
</li><li>Act as liaison between prescribers, insurance PBMs, and outside pharmacies.</li><li>
Work closely with clinical, medication access, and distribution teams to ensure timely patient care.</li><li>
Type and adjudicate prescriptions.</li><li>
Investigate and resolve Third-Party Rejections.</li><li>
Document all patient interactions in appropriate systems and databases.</li><li>
Prepare non-sterile compound medications.</li><li>
Filling patient prescriptions</li><li>
Organize and store filled prescription medications utilizing Smart-Shelf storage.</li><li>
Manually package medications for shipment.</li><li>
Assist in stocking and storage of inventory.</li><li>
Maintain and replenish automated filling PODS.</li><li>
Spend most of a shift standing or walking, often walking &gt;5 miles. Staff are regularly required to lift, push, or pull boxes or carts weighing &gt;20 pounds</li><li>

Licensure &amp; Certification</b></h2><p>
The State of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) requires all Pharmacy Technicians to be licensed. The new regulations allow for a one-time temporary license for up to 1 year, during which time a technician must successfully complete requirements to become certified and meet all other State of Michigan requirements for a Full Pharmacy Technician License. UMHS Pharmacy Department provides coaching and additional information to support technicians to become certified and licensed.</p><p>

Pharmacy Technician positions are available in the adult acute care setting. Looking to create a diverse team to help perform patient care activities. Locations include Central Pharmacy, Central Pharmacy Cleanroom (sterile compounding), Operating Room (OR)/Cardiovascular Center (CVC), Adult Emergency Services (AES), and the Pavilion Pharmacy Satellites. Specific areas and shift times are available depending on current area needs.
</p><p><b>General Pharmacy Technician duties may include:</b></p><ul><li>
Prepare and package non-sterile compounded pharmaceuticals</li><li>
Prepare sterile products, injections and IV chemotherapy</li><li>
Fill automated dispensing cabinets on nursing units</li><li>
Correctly distribute and account for controlled substances usage</li><li>
Deliver medications to nursing units including surgical rooms</li><li>
Stock medications shelves, manage inventory dating, return excess stock to inventory, properly dispose expired medications or return to manufacturer</li><li>
Prepare and deliver investigational drugs per research protocols</li><li>

Coordinates all aspects of the Operating Room and Cardiovascular Center Pharmacies, including:</li><li>
o Developing policies and procedures</li><li>
o Recruiting</li><li>
o Coordinating and participating in applicant evaluations</li><li>

o Developing and coordinating new employee training schedules.</li><li>
