As the Pharmacy Technician Supervisor, you will be responsible for performing activities relating to and supporting the coordination, training, and supervision of individuals within assigned area of responsibility. Duties and responsibilities of this individual will include supervision, support, and compliance of activities related to the practice of pharmacy as a pharmacy technician. The Pharmacy Technician Supervisor may also provide functional supervision of Pharmacy Technician Trainers, collect and or/record metrics, quality and/or surveillance data, and develop and implement process improvements</p><h2 class="jobSectionHeader"><b>
Responsibilities*</b></h2><p>
Provides day-to-day supervision and manages the activities of pharmacy technicians. Responsibilities include supervision, support and compliance of pharmacy technicians preparing, compounding, packaging, storing, recording, processing, dispensing, labeling and delivering medications and pharmaceutical supplies. Ensures all department procedures and policies are followed. Employees in this classification supervise three or more full-time equivalent employees every week. Direction is over a permanent status-continuing function, not a collection of employees assigned to complete a project. Management duties include interviewing, selecting and training of employees; setting and adjusting their rates of pay and hours of work; planning and directing their work; appraising their productivity and efficiency for the purpose of recommending promotions or other changes in their status; handling their complaints and grievances and disciplining them when necessary. Management responsibilities include the authority to hire, fire, or promote assigned employees or make recommendations that are given particular weight. Employees may spend time performing many of the same duties as subordinate employees. Under FLSA, this is the exempt job classification for this title. Incumbents in this position must meet the full criteria for exempt status: salary level, salary basis, and duties tests.</p><p></p><p><b><br>
Specific duties include:</b></p><ul><li>
Develop policies and guidelines to improve standardization and maintain regulatory compliance in areas of oversight.</li><li>
Monitor daily practices to ensure they are conducted with adherence to policy and guidelines, legal, regulatory, and compliance requirements.</li><li>
Develop and prepare training and procedural materials for areas of oversight.</li><li>
Hire, set/adjust rates of pay and hours of work, complete performance appraisals, mentor, promote, and other administrative HR responsibilities for assigned staff.</li><li>

Directly, or through delegation, plan and schedule shift assignments and work for assigned staff, ensure proper distribution of assignments and adequate manning, space, and facilities for subsequent performance of duties.</li><li>
Directly, or through delegation, manage the scheduling of the assigned work force inclusive of vacation schedules, ad hoc requests, and surveillance of employee attendance.</li><li>
Collect, analyze and interpret metrics on operations, costs, productivity, and staffing requirements for areas of oversight.</li><li>
Provide primary oversight of the function, quality, and productivity of assigned staff.</li><li>
Review payroll records and approve time reports for assigned staff.</li><li>
Handle staff and/or patient issues, concerns/complaints, and grievances.</li><li>

Required Qualifications*</b></h2><ul><li>

Five years or more experience as a Pharmacy Technician required.</li><li>
Excellent communication skills, including fluency in writing, reading and speaking English</li><li>
Demonstrated excellent teaching and/or training skills</li><li>
Proficient computer skills and literacy, including Windows-based and Microsoft Office-based programs</li><li>
Proficiency in basic mathematic skills relevant to pharmacy technician responsibilities</li><li>
Must be able to prioritize tasks with accuracy and dependability.</li><li>

The State of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) requires all Pharmacy Technicians to be licensed. The new regulations allow for a one-time temporary license for up to 1 year, during which time a Technician must successfully complete requirements to become certified and meet all other State of Michigan requirements for a Full Pharmacy Technician License. <ul><li>The individual&rsquo;s responsibilities include the following activities: a) accurately fill medication orders with correct strength, dosage form, and quantity in a timely manner, b) assure all medication orders are verified by pharmacist prior to dispensing, c) respond appropriately to requests for STAT orders, routine orders, department requests, and ADC stock out bulletins, d) process and document emergency crash carts, boxes, and kits accurately and timely, e) accurately stock ADCs in a timely manner, f) prepackage and label oral medications and extemporaneous preparations, g) prepare non-sterile compounded products accurately and consistent with hospital policies and procedures (USP 795) h) prepare sterile admixture solutions and IV products accurately consistent with sterile compounding policies and procedures (USP797) and (USP800), i) restock medications in IV room and conform to IV cleaning schedule, j) complete monthly medication inspections as assigned, k) maintain quality assurance logs with proper documentation and notify Supervisor of any deviations from standards, l) ensure efficient operational workflow in assigned area(s) and conform with delivery schedule, m) display leadership role with areas of responsibility completed and/or delegated appropriately, n) follow proper process for handling of controlled substances and report any variances to Supervisor or pharmacist-in-charge; o) ensure patient accounts are properly charged, p) assist in training and educating new pharmacy technician staff, q) aid in development and implementation of performance improvement plans, r) troubleshoot i with automated technology (dispensing and packaging), s) acts as an agent, and under the supervision, of the facility medical director while performing medication management related activities at a remote site commonly owned and operated by the Hospital. t) other duties as assigned..</li><li>
Organization/Work Role: Prioritizes workload. Completes work in a timely manner. Maintains a clean and orderly work environment. Shares responsibility for ordering and stocking medication and keeping the department clean. Maintains a calm demeanor during busy or crisis situations. Utilizes personal protective equipment to protect from exposure to chemical, radiation and infectious hazards.</li><li>
Professional: Actively participates in department management by providing input at meetings and reading communication. Mentors new and less experienced staff and students. Uses policy and procedure manuals and other reference material to ensure proper course of action.</li><li>
Quality Improvement: Identifies, proposes solutions and assists in implementation of ideas for improvement in patient care and departmental / hospital operations. Participates in the successful implementation of change. Identifies opportunities and implements strategies to decrease waste in medication. Participates in department QI as requested.</li><li>

Minimum Requirements<ul><li>
Education: High School Graduate or equivalent.</li><li>
Experience: Three (3) years of hospital pharmacy experience or performance equivalent to 3 years of hospital pharmacy experience.</li><li>
Licensure/Certifications: Licensed in the State of Arizona as a Pharmacy Technician, Pharmacy Technician certification</li></ul></li><li>
Preferred Requirements<ul><li>
Education: Completion of a certified pharmacy technician training program or pharmacy technician experience.</li><li>
Experience: Previous hospital pharmacy experience preferred with training and experience in sterile (IV) compounding, including chemotherapy preparations. Good organizational skills, verbal and written communication skills, and basic computer skills preferred.</li></ul></li></ul></div><div><p><br>
