Phlebotomist I is responsible for accurate collection and handling of patient laboratory specimens for diagnostic testing according to established best practice in a manner that enhances patient and caregiver engagement.
Essential Functions
<ul><li>Phlebotomist I is responsible for accurately collecting patient specimens for diagnostic testing while working in a professional medical environment. This position functions as part of a dynamic and engaging team with a workload that ranges from fast-paced hospital settings and high/low volume clinics. Caregivers in this role will gain valuable experience and knowledge to help prepare them for workplace and career advancement.
</li></ul><ul><li>The Phlebotomist I perform specimen collection using many different techniques such as venipuncture, capillary puncture, PIVO, and throat swab collections. These caregivers collect specimens from patients of various acuities, such as Outpatient, Emergency Department, and Inpatient &ndash; including newborns, patients in intensive care, and all other areas of the hospital. They are at the forefront of patient care and adhere to and enforce the standards for laboratory compliance and safety regulations.
</li><li>Adherence to personal protective requirements in inpatient and/or outpatient settings, including but not limited to gowns, gloves, lab coats, face shields, and masks.
</li><li>Intermountain Caregivers in this role will communicate procedures and instructions with patients and family members and demonstrate empathy during every interaction. They will also have opportunities for growth, developing skills such as:

</li><li>Six months of phlebotomy experience, phlebotomy training or national certification as approved by manager/supervisor. Preferred.

<ul><li>Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
</li><li>Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
</li><li>Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
</li><li>Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
</li><li>Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc.)
</li><li>May be expected to stand in a stationary position for an extended period of time.
</li></ul><ul><li>For roles requiring driving: Expected to drive a vehicle which requires sitting, seeing and reading signs, traffic signals, and other vehicles.

Are you passionate about patient care and precision? Do you want to establish and build your career in healthcare? Join our team as a Phlebotomist and play a key role in the plasma donation process. You&rsquo;ll be the welcoming face that guides donors through a safe and comfortable plasma donation process, helping transform their generosity into life-saving therapies.
As a Phlebotomist, you&rsquo;ll perform venipuncture procedures and monitor donors throughout the plasmapheresis process. You&rsquo;ll also help maintain a clean, efficient, and welcoming environment while working closely with a team committed to quality and care.</div></div><div><div><h2 class="jobSectionHeader">
What you'll do</h2>
</div><div><ul><li>Educate donors on the donation process, center policies, compensation, and the importance of plasma-based therapies.</li><li>
Greet donors and perform introductions to yourself and the donation process to establish trust and comfort.</li><li>
Conduct venipuncture procedures following SOPs, including arm prep, collection volumes, restarts, and cell loss protocols.</li><li>
Monitor donor well-being during the donation process and respond to any adverse reactions.</li><li>
Maintain and calibrate equipment, report malfunctions, and ensure readiness for daily operations.</li><li>
Set up and operate plasma donation machines, including responding to alarms and shutdowns.</li><li>
Collect and label test samples accurately, including NAT testing protocols.</li><li>
Keep the donor floor stocked with necessary supplies and soft goods.</li><li>
Record donor data and any incidents in the electronic donor information system.</li><li>
Respond promptly and professionally to donor complaints, deferrals, or concerns.</li><li>
Support donor flow by working efficiently and alerting management to any bottlenecks or issues.</li><li>
Prepare the center for audits by maintaining cleanliness and compliance with SOPs and regulatory standards.</li><li>
Uphold data integrity and confidentiality for all donor and center information.</li></ul></div></div><div><div><h2 class="jobSectionHeader">
Qualifications and need-to-know</h2>
</div><div><ul><li>High school diploma or equivalent required.</li><li>
Phlebotomy certification is preferred (required in California).</li><li>
At least 1 year of phlebotomy experience is preferred.</li><li>
Strong attention to detail and ability to follow procedures precisely.</li><li>
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.</li><li>
Ability to remain calm and compassionate in high-pressure situations.</li><li>
Commitment to safety, compliance, and donor care.</li><li>
Comfortable working in a regulated environment with exposure to bloodborne pathogens.</li></ul></div></div></div>
