As an Adaptive Physical Educator you will accelerate the outcomes of students in Grades K-12 by delivering designated physical education services aligned to each learner&rsquo;s individualized education plan (IEP) &mdash; on time, on schedule, and to standard. This role elevates instruction through evidence-based curriculum and community-based learning consistent with IEP intent; builds individualized schedules that advance service goals; and documents progress with rigorous, data-driven reporting.

‖ Responsibilities Include:
<ul>
<li>Implementing designated services as detailed in each student&rsquo;s IEP/ITP, meeting required weekly minutes within the specified service windows.
</li>
<li>Developing and implementing standards-aligned, evidence-based curriculum consistent with the letter and intent of the IEP/ITP, including on-site and community-based instruction as monitored by the supervisor.
</li>
<li>Developing and implementing individualized schedules that directly address each student&rsquo;s IEP/ITP goals related to designated services.
</li>
<li>Consulting with the supervisor regarding student progress and the implementation of the IEP/ITP/PBIP, and supporting transition planning for mainstreaming/inclusion or post-secondary/adult program pathways.
</li>
<li>Conducting ongoing evaluations of student needs; compiling IEPs/ITPs and Progress Reports; and reporting data to the supervisor, parent/caregiver, and district representative.
</li>
<li>Recording and maintaining accurate, timely data within student programs, classroom records, and assigned data systems.
</li>
<li>Assisting teachers and classroom staff in implementing related-service curriculum by modeling best practices and preparing materials.
</li>
<li>Participating in IEP meetings as requested; presenting proposed goals and current levels using data-based evidence; and fielding goal-related questions.
</li>
<li>Providing direct services through collaborative consultation with instructional and clinical teams.
</li>
<li>Preparing individualized materials and adaptive equipment to maximize student access and engagement.
</li>
<li>Facilitating student transitions to the least restrictive environment through coordinated planning and skill generalization.
</li>
<li>Completing all required basic competency training and courses, including Supervision Training and other compliance modules.
</li>
<li>Completing all staff development necessary to maintain the credentials required for this position.
</li>
<li>Observing and training staff to implement related-service goals consistently across the school day.
</li>
<li>Assisting and mentoring classroom staff at the supervisor&rsquo;s request while meeting all ongoing credentialing and professional development requirements.

<li>Attending required meetings, including supervision sessions, all-staff meetings, annual planning, and action-team forums.
</li>
<li>Adhering to organizational communication guidelines by using objective, professional language (NORMS) with colleagues and all stakeholders.

<li>Giving and receiving feedback professionally&mdash;prioritizing appropriate timing, setting, confidentiality, and data-based rationale.

</ul>‖ Qualifications Required:
<ul>
<li>Bachelor's degree or higher in education or a closely related field of study.</li>
<li>Licensed currently or in the process of obtaining an adaptive physical educator (APE) credential.</li>
<li>Licensed currently or in the process of obtaining a special education instruction credential preferred.</li>
<li>Hold currently or have the ability to obtain a valid CA state drivers license.</li>
<li>Ability to obtain and maintain certification in company approved crisis management training.</li>
<li>Prior experience working with adaptive physical education services, preferably in an alternative, special education and/or behavioral health program setting.</li>
<li>Prior experience and/or knowledge in special education services and compliance, particularly for students with learning disabilities, emotional behavioral disorders, autism spectrum disorders and/or other related disabilities.</li>
<li>Prior experience and/or highly knowledgeable in working with students with individualized education plans (IEP's).</li>
<li>Well-versed in applied behavior analysis (ABA), positive behavior interventions and supports (PBIS), effective teaching strategies, classroom management systems, data-based decision making, functional behavior analysis (FBA) and behavior intervention plans (BIP's).</li>
<li>Proficiency in providing motivation and having critical conversations with students that help move them toward realistic goals.</li>
<li>Ability to think and act quickly and calmly in an emergency and make independent decisions.</li>
<li>Advanced oral and written communication, organization, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem solving, and decision-making ability.</li>
<li>Knowledge of relevant technology including experience with instructional technology, Microsoft Office Suite, database entry and basic office equipment.</li></ul>

ANSEP is seeking dedicated student support staff to join its Anchorage Acceleration site. This position is central to the daily operations, providing a safe, academically focused, and supportive environment for up to 100 high school students, with future growth anticipated. The role involves direct student supervision, academic coaching, and the implementation of enriching extracurricular activities, all while ensuring the well-being and success of every participant. The Education Facilitator is responsible for supporting the academic and extracurricular success of students through program development, facilitation, supervision, recitation/tutoring, and support. This role involves assisting with the planning and implementation of activities, providing direct student support, and ensuring a safe and productive learning environment. The Education Facilitator will work collaboratively with site leadership and staff to achieve program goals.

Working at the ANSEP Anchorage Acceleration site is a high-energy, multifaceted role. Since you are working with students ages 13-17 in a college-level environment, your day is a mix of &quot;academic coach,&quot; &quot;classroom teacher,&quot; and &quot;risk manager.&quot; This isn't a desk job. You are a mentor and a protector. You need to be comfortable switching from a &quot;firm authority figure&quot; (enforcing safety and boundaries) to an &quot;encouraging coach&quot; (helping a 14-year-old pass a college level exam) in a matter of minutes.

To thrive in this role, a candidate must be a high-energy academic anchor who balances a protective, safety-first mindset with the empathy of a dedicated mentor. Because you are working with students as young as 13 in a demanding university environment, the ideal candidate is someone who can command a room of 20 teenagers with authoritative professionalism while simultaneously providing the granular, one-on-one coaching needed to help them pass college-level STEM courses. You must be a proactive communicator&mdash;someone who doesn't wait for a crisis to occur but instead anticipates student needs, identifies subtle shifts in mental health, and meticulously documents progress. Ultimately, a thriving staff member is a boundary-setter who can navigate the complexities of University of Alaska policies and ANSEP&rsquo;s high standards, all while fostering a safe, judgment-free space where students feel empowered to tackle the rigors of higher education.

Candidates will need exceptional organizational and time-management skills to effectively juggle responsibilities. Strong program/instructional design, facilitation, and presentation abilities will be key to engaging and motivating students. A capacity to provide constructive feedback and support and foster their growth alongside adaptability and flexibility are crucial for navigating the dynamic environment. Candidates should excel at building strong working relationships and collaborating as a team member, all while maintaining professional boundaries and confidentiality.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, coupled with sound judgment and decision-making, are essential. Conflict resolution, problem-solving, and behavior management skills will be vital for fostering a supportive and productive learning environment. A candidate must possess strong student supervision skills and be proficient in providing academic support, including tutoring/teaching and time management coaching. Experience in developing and facilitating programming focused on STEM based classes, life skills and other school subjects is essential. The ideal applicant will demonstrate a commitment to risk management, including responding to incidents and emergencies effectively and ensuring student safety on and off campus. A valid AK driver's license with three years of a driving record on a valid driver's license and ability to operate a 15-passenger van are also required. A current or past teaching certificate is preferred for this role. 


Minimum Qualifications:
<ul>
<li>Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in a STEM or education field and two years progressively responsible experience related to school aged children. At least 1 years of management experience in a school or youth development program or an equivalent combination of training and experience.</li>
<li>Teaching certification preferred.</li>
<li>Current CPR with AED/First Aid certification preferred.</li>
<li>Experience working with rural and/or Indigenous Alaska populations preferred.</li>
<li>Position requires driving an ANSEP vehicle. Applicant must be 21 and older to apply and have a valid AK driver's license with three years of a clean driving record on a valid driver's license.</li>
<li>Must be able to lift or move 25 to 50lbs with or without reasonable accommodation.</li>

Position Details:

This position is located on the UAA campus in Anchorage. This is a full-time, term-funded, exempt (salaried) staff position complete with both a competitive salary and full employee benefits package. UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, annual leave, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage. New hires will be placed on the UA Staff Salary Schedule, Grade 79, based on education and experience.

Position is a term-funded position and is reviewed annually for contract renewal at the University's discretion.

Position is a 9 month position and runs the standard academic year (August through May). This position would start in August 2026.
