This practice includes a comprehensive array of services to support the care of cancer patients in an office/clinic setting which is located on the beautiful coast of Belfast Maine. Work as part of a statewide oncology care program- the MaineHealth Cancer Care Network (MHCCN) is an integrated cancer care delivery network across the Southern, Coastal and Mountain regions of Maine and eastern New Hampshire. Designed to provide care as close to home as possible, the network is comprised of 11 hospital partners and provides comprehensive cancer care to more than 7,400 cancer patients annually.
This position allows for a 4-day work week, working 10 hours each day. Call is required for this position, with an oncologist on call for back up. Join a wonderful team here on the coast of Maine caring for the local community.

The successful APP candidate will have a strong background in palliative medicine with an oncology/hematology focus. This role works closely with physicians treating a broad spectrum of patients in a fast-paced outpatient environment. The position will diagnose, treat and manage patients both in our Topsham and Westbrook ME clinic.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:<ul><li>
Assess the physical and psychosocial status of patients through interviews, health history, physical examination, and diagnostic studies both in an outpatient clinic setting and an inpatient hospital setting.</li><li>
Elicit medical histories of patients, perform physical examinations, and develop a differential diagnosis/problem list.</li><li>
Order and interpret laboratory tests and radiologic data, diagnose and treat co-morbid illness within the scope of a patient's hematologic/oncologic diagnosis, perform procedures as delegated by the attending physician, prescribe medications in accordance with federal and state regulations.
</li><li>Evaluate the quality of care provided and recommend changes for improvement.
</li><li>Initiate appropriate actions to facilitate the implementation of therapeutic plans that are consistent with the continuing healthcare needs of the patient.</li><li>
Educate patients and families about the disease process and treatment and end of life care</li><li>
Work with patients regarding treatment side effects with goals of improving quality of life while receiving chemotherapy and/or immunotherapy.</li><li>
Facilitate advance care planning, medical decision-making and educate patients on the Death with Dignity Law.</li><li>
Provide information to patients and families related to symptom management and psychosocial response to the diagnosis of cancer and related treatment.</li></ul>
Weekend: Participation in weekend urgent care clinic in Westbrook 3-4 times per year
Travel: Travel between our Topsham and Westbrook clinics, and to local hospitals in the greater Portland area to see patients may be required
