 POSITION SUMMARY: The Dispatcher I performs effective and responsive telecommunications work in the reception and transmission of 9 -1-1 telephone and radio emergency communications for both Police and Fire departments regarding Calls for Services (CFS), and inquiries from the public. The employee is responsible for collecting and evaluating information to determine jurisdiction, equipment and personnel to be dispatched. The employee utilizes a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system. This position works under the direct supervision of the Communications Supervisor and a Police Sergeant, and indirectly to a Police Lieutenant, the Assistant Police Chief, and the Police Chief.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Requires a regular and consistent physical presence, at the approved time, at the Police Department telecommunications center. The duties and responsibilities required for this position include the following:

THE </b><b>POSITION</b><br>
Under the supervision of a shift lead, the Public Safety Dispatcher processes emergency and non-emergency calls for service; dispatches police, fire, medical, and other emergency equipment, by telephone or radio, utilizing complex technical aids, such as Computer Aided Dispatch systems (CAD); and performs other related duties as assigned.<br>

The ideal candidate will possess a POST Basic Certificate, EMD Certificate, EFD Certificate, and knowledge in all disciplines of Police/Fire and EMS dispatching and one year as a Public Safety Dispatcher with a demonstrated background in the operation of modern Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems. Note: The POST Basic Certificate is required at time of application. Without the POST Basic Certificate at time of application the candidate will not be considered.<br>

<b>Work Schedule: </b>Public Safety Dispatchers work a 48 hours on/96 hours off schedule.<br>

<b>Compensation:</b><b> </b>Base Salary includes holiday, EMD, and FLSA pay. To qualify for holiday pay, you must be on a 56-hour schedule and to qualify for EMD pay, you must have passed the EMD course.<br>

Receives and processes 9-1-1, emergency and non-emergency requests for assistance, evaluates the information provided and creates CAD system events; provides pre-arrival and post-dispatch instructions to the caller or relays information to other jurisdictions; processes and prioritizes incoming calls.<br>

Dispatches Police/Fire and EMS personnel and equipment on both routine and emergency calls utilizing a CAD system, multiple video display terminals, radio dispatching consoles, and related equipment.<br>

Monitors and maintains status of public safety personnel and equipment; analyzes situations accurately and takes effective action to help ensure officer and firefighter safety; handle the reassignment of fire equipment to ensure adequate district-wide fire protection.<br>

This is specialized communications work in receiving and dispatching accurate information on an assigned shift to appropriate personnel. Positions in this class are employed in fire communications and dispatch personnel based on seven-digit calls and 911 calls. Work involves responsibility for the operation of specialized radio utilizing multiple channels and frequencies in a communication center. Position requires fast, efficient, and accurate receiving, dispatching, and processing of calls and messages from and to appropriate vehicles and personnel.</b></div><div></div><div><b><br>
Qualifications and Necessary Special Requirements:</b></div><div><b>
High school diploma from a school accredited by a regional accrediting agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or GED certificate issued by the appropriate state agency and some experience in operating communications equipment and basic computers.</b></div><div></div><div><b><br>
