The Campus Police Sergeant supervises shift officers and manages daily operations to ensure the effective delivery of campus safety and police services. This role is dedicated to protecting Dean College property and supporting the safety and well-being of the campus community, while upholding the department's mission to maintain a secure and welcoming environment. 
 
Position responsibilities include:
<ul><li>Supervise shift officers, ensuring operational effectiveness, adherence to policies, and high standards of professional conduct.</li><li>
Patrol campus buildings and grounds to deter crime, vandalism, theft, and other violations of law or college policies.</li><li>
Respond to, investigate, and document incidents, policy violations, and criminal activity.</li><li>
Refer cases to the Office of Community Standards when appropriate, investigate accidents, and provide guidance and information to the campus community.</li><li>
Foster positive relationships between the police department and the campus community through proactive engagement, education, and daily interactions.</li><li>

Job Requirements: 
Qualifications and Requirements
<ul><li>Associate's degree in criminal justice or a related field required; bachelor's degree preferred.</li><li>
5-7 years of sworn law enforcement experience, preferably in campus or community-oriented policing.</li><li>
Massachusetts POST certification (or eligibility) and MPTC full-time police academy certification.</li><li>
Valid, unrestricted driver's license with an acceptable driving record.</li><li>
Valid Massachusetts License to Carry Firearms (Large Capacity) in accordance with MGL Chapter 140, Section 131.</li><li>

 Working Conditions
 
 
 
 Employee is exposed to both inside and outside working conditions in all types of weather from extremes of cold and heat to rain/snow/ice as well as varying terrain from streets, dense foliage, dark buildings, and water. Employee may be exposed to noise which would cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level. Work place conditions include operating vehicles for extended periods of time, working varied hours and shifts, and confronting violent persons many of whom have criminal records with little to no respect for law enforcement or who may be a threat to themselves or others. Work requires application of safety precautions and wearing of protective clothing, gloves, and body armor designed to minimize exposure to blood-borne pathogens, communicable diseases, and bodily harm. Job Summary: 
Under supervision, provide consultative and onsite support at the Department of Behavioral Health &amp; Development Disabilities hospitals with a primary focus on assessing, identifying, and responding to internal and external threats (employees, visitors, physical plant). Performs a full range of assigned duties to maintain security and order at an assigned location.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:<ul><li>
Maintains law and order on hospital grounds and a visible presence to deter trespassers.</li><li>
Serves as first responder to emergencies on campus, i.e. fires, disorderly conduct, and criminal activity.</li><li>
Provides instructions and directions to others as it pertains to law enforcement matters and emergency situations.</li><li>
Partners with the hospital security staff to maintain safety at DBHDD location(s).</li><li>
Patrols and protect hospital buildings, parking lots and grounds for suspicious activity.</li><li>
Checks for breaches of security, and unsafe conditions</li><li>Conducts administrative and criminal investigations
</li></ul><ul><li>Monitors security equipment and camera systems and ensure problems are reported immediately so that corrective actions can be implemented.</li><li>
Liase/ exchange information with GBI on matters as needed.</li><li>
Prepares written reports, maintains daily logs.</li><li>
Can be temporarily reassigned to another hospital location due to specific needs of that hospital</li></ul> 
Physical Requirements:<ul><li>Must be able to patrol grounds on foot and in vehicle.</li><li>Work in inclement weather.</li><li>Overtime work including evenings and weekends.</li><li>Ability to walk, run, climb or site for extended period of time.</li></ul> 
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma /GED
Georgia P.O.S.T. certification as a peace officer in good standing as defined by Ga P.O.S.T. Council.
Four (4) years of experience required at the lower-level Police Officer 1 (PSP120) or Police Officer 2 (PSP121) or position equivalent.
Valid Georgia driver&rsquo;s license in good standing.

Preferred Qualifications:
Associate&rsquo;s degree in criminal justice, Public Administration, Sociology or a related field.
Two (2) or more years of experience of investigative work in a federal, state or local law enforcement agency.
