The long-standing interest of Xu Lab is to understand the cellular and molecular basis of lung regeneration under physiological and/or pathological perturbations, utilizing cutting-edge experimental biology with advanced computational approaches including mouse surgical models, cell lineage tracing, organoid culture, 3D imaging, single cell genomics and AI-driven system. <b>MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:</b><br>
Develop the skills and knowledge (critical thinking and analysis of data, devising specific aims, long-term project planning and experimental design) to become an independent scientist
<br>Design, execute, and record laboratory experiments, and analyze data, which may affect decisions regarding future patient care.
<br>Research and improve current methods and evaluate innovative techniques. protocol and assay accuracy by conducting regular quality and reproducibility checks. Implement this knowledge in the Division/Department. Troubleshoot and correct erroneous results or problems with laboratory equipment.
<br>Discuss relevant insights about experimental results with Faculty and provide useful recommendations and analysis.
<br>Present research at laboratory meetings, journal clubs, seminars, and meetings. Develop skills to critically review and discuss data being presented.
<br>Draft, write, and edit scientific reports, papers, journal articles, abstracts, and grants.
<br>Progressively increasing responsibilities with mentorship of research staff and fiscal administration
<br>Maintain currency in field through continuing education, literature, and seminars. Be an active participant in the process through intellectual discussions with PI and other faculty, trainees and research staff. Solicit feedback on career trajectory from PI, mentoring committee and others who can provide coaching and insight.
<br>Attend required Cincinnati Children’s training sessions and ensure regulatory compliance with all institutional (i.e. Infection Control, ORCRA and others as applicable) policies and procedures

</div><div>This postdoctoral scholar position will explore innovative approaches to sequester and sense chloride by designing and synthesizing anion receptors for use in polymer materials and coatings. Critical activities involve the synthesis of novel receptors.<br>
</div><div>The intensive and extensive use of water in modern society places increasing demands on water supplies. This situation negatively impacts fresh water fit for human consumption and agricultural usage as well as the need in industry. Sustainable practices that either enable the removal of chloride from water or enable the performance of industrial processes even in chloride-laden waters are needed. Traditional approaches use reverse osmosis (RO) and electrodialysis across membranes, ion exchange with resin beads, or simple distillation. Despite advances in anion recognition chemistry, none of them use these principles, e.g., RO membranes leverage polyamide films that act as a size filter. This project seeks to take some of the first steps to leverage anion recognition chemistry for chloride sequestration and sensing in polymer materials.<br>
</div><div>This postdoctoral scholar position involves the synthesis of new and known chloride-binding macrocycles and proof-of-concept testing of their ability to extract and sense chloride when incorporated into polymer materials.<br>

Educational Goals<br>
The Clinical Research Postdoctoral Fellowship is a one- to two-year position designed to provide a well-balanced integration of advanced clinical training and high-quality research experience. This role is ideal for candidates seeking to build careers that merge clinical practice with research innovation. The fellowship is housed within the Behavioral Health Partial Hospital (BHP), a transdiagnostic, CBT-based program serving approximately 700 patients annually. The BHP has a robust research infrastructure supported by more than a decade of routine outcome monitoring, and as of November 2025, over 120 projects using BHP data have been published in peer-reviewed journals.
<br>
<br>
The fellow will have 2.5 days per week dedicated to research activities. This includes contributing to the management of the BHP's routine outcome monitoring program, participation in BHP research meetings, mentoring trainees in research projects, and engaging in independent research projects, including the opportunity to develop grant proposals if desired.<br>
<br>
The fellow will also have 2.5 days per week dedicated to clinical activities with our acute, transdiagnostic psychiatric population. This includes treating BHP patients on a multidisciplinary team, providing group therapy, and holding long-term outpatient cases. The fellow will also have the opportunity to provide supervision to a psychology trainee if desired.

Postdoctoral fellows will hold BHP patients, outpatient cases, and lead BHP group therapy. Time for professional development activities (e.g., elective rotations across hospital) is also provided (8 hours per week).

Mentorship &amp; Supervision

The fellow is provided with one hour of individual research mentorship per week and two hours of individual clinical supervision per week. Mentors and supervisors hold academic appointments at Harvard Medical School and are licensed psychologists. The fellow also has the opportunity to provide peer supervision to a psychology trainee if in line with their training goals.

Treatment Setting<br>
Since 1811, McLean Hospital has been a world leader in the treatment of mental illness, research into the causes of mental illness, and the training of generations of mental health care providers. The hospital offers a full continuum of care including inpatient, acute and longer-term residential, partial hospital, and outpatient services.
<br>
<br>
The Behavioral Health Partial Hospital Program (BHP), located on McLean&rsquo;s Belmont campus, treats people struggling with mood and anxiety disorders, depression, personality disorders, bipolar spectrum disorders, and thought disorders. The approximate length of participation is three weeks (15 consecutive business days). The program is available in person only and operates Monday through Friday from 8:30am to 3pm. The BHP emphasizes group therapy, structure, and skill building, with intensive daily treatment programming designed to reduce symptoms and meet individual treatment needs. Each patient undergoes a thorough initial assessment to create a personalized care plan based on specific diagnoses and symptoms, aiming to support stabilization and tailored treatment goals. Clinicians help patients build coping skills using cognitive behavior therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). We also integrate the systems model, focusing on patient-family and patient-community relationships, as well as positive psychology to enhance strengths and well-being. In addition to group therapy, treatment includes medication consultations, individual therapy, case management, and aftercare planning.<p></p><div><div><div><div><div><div><div><p><b><br>

The lab is part of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Diabetes Center and provides unique opportunities to collaborate with other researchers in the fields of metabolism, obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.</p>
<p>
Education required: PhD degree in a biomedical-related science</p>
<p>
Required qualifications:</p>
<ul>
<li>A strong publication record and excellent references</li>
<li>Expertise in HDL biology including HDL isolation and HDL functional tests.</li>
<li>A strong molecular biology and biochemistry background and tissue culture skills, and experience in studying signal transduction</li>
<li>Proficiency in both oral and written communication.</li>
</ul>
<p>Desirable qualifications:</p>
<ul>
<li>Some experience working with animals is preferred.</li>
