Project Overview
The AI Pathologist project is an interdisciplinary initiative aimed at developing an advanced AI-driven diagnostic system using 3D medical imaging modalities (CT, MRI, PET) and explainable AI (XAI) techniques to support medical professionals in improving diagnostic accuracy, reducing workload, and enhancing patient outcomes. The Postdoc Researcher will play a key role in implementing system prototypes, managing data pipelines, and supporting the development and validation of AI models in collaboration with clinicians and engineers.
Key Responsibilities
1. AI Model Development &amp; Testing
<ul><li>Assist in developing machine learning and deep learning models for medical imaging analysis.
</li><li>Implement and fine-tune models using PyTorch, TensorFlow, or related frameworks.
</li><li>Run experiments, perform hyperparameter tuning, and maintain organized experiment logs.
</li></ul>2. Medical Imaging Data Management
<ul><li>Support data preprocessing, annotation preparation, and dataset organization.
</li><li>Handle CT, MRI, PET, and histopathology images, ensuring proper anonymization and compliance with ethical guidelines.

Research assistant (Solar Energy and Desalination)

<div>The Zachary Burcham Lab in the Department of Microbiology at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) is focused on how key microbes within host and environmental microbiomes degrade organic wastes and how modulating these microbiomes may lead to cleaner, more efficient waste conversion into valuable bioproducts. Current lab research spans diverse biological scales, including the microbial roles in organic waste cycling by the black soldier fly larvae (BSFL) gut microbiome, forensic microbiology, and collaborations in human health focused on oral and vaginal microbiomes. We utilize a combination of environmental sampling, laboratory models, multi-omics, and bioinformatic tools to explore the relationship between microbial diversity, microbial interactions, and ecological outcomes in free-living and host-associated systems. We are looking for a Postdoctoral Researcher to lead and advance computational/bioinformatic integrative analyses of these multi-omic microbiome datasets.
A successful candidate will be able to develop reproducible analytical workflows, generate publishable insights from large, complex datasets, and contribute to high-impact manuscripts and grant proposals in host-associated and environmental microbiome research. This is a 12-month appointment renewed annually; funding is available for up to three years, with possible extension based on performance and funding.</div>
 <div><ul><li>Lead bioinformatic analyses of microbiome datasets, including 16S rRNA, shotgun metagenomics, and metatranscriptomics (e.g., QC, assembly, binning/MAG recovery, annotation, and downstream statistical analyses).
</li><li>Develop, document, and maintain reproducible pipelines.
</li><li>Integrate multi-omic data with experimental and environmental metadata.
</li><li>Apply rigorous statistical and computational approaches for microbiome community ecology (diversity, ordination, differential abundance, compositional methods, network/assembly modeling as appropriate).

Required qualifications include: strong communication and presentation skills; a track record in writing and publishing peer-reviewed journal publications; and previous or relevant experience in mentoring or supervising undergraduate student research or junior graduate students. Candidates must still be within their first 5 years since receiving their PhD.
 
 
 A formal training, education, or certification in a secondary area (beyond the main PhD focus) such as additive manufacturing, advanced/hybrid manufacturing, machine learning, artificial intelligence, computer vision, robotics, UAVs, etc. is a plus. Other preferred qualifications include: expertise in programming and coding (preferably using Python and C++) and GUI development; expertise in computational mechanics and finite element simulation and modeling; expertise in laboratory and multi-scale experimental testing at the material, component, and structural levels.
 
 
 The candidates will work in a multidisciplinary environment consisting of PhD-level scientists and undergraduate students, conduct high-quality &ldquo;innovative and independent&rdquo; experimental, analytical, and/or computational research, publish research work and results in scientific peer-reviewed journals and conferences, mentor undergraduate students, and participate in writing research grant proposals.

Summary</h2></div><div>
The Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery (department) in the Division of Cardio/Thoracic Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine (BCM) seeks a highly qualified individual with a PhD and postdoctoral experience in Computer Science, Data Science, Medical Informatics or Equivalent Field. The Assistant Professor would serve as scientific lead for Dr. Ravi Ghanta, overseeing the Department of Surgery ATLAS AI program they would make decisions and take responsibility for scientific progress and help Dr. Ghanta manage the large team involved in the grant. 
Under this role, the Assistant Professor will work on research projects involving machine learning and artificial intelligence with application to electronic health data. The Assistant Professor is expected to be able to perform overseeing data engineering of electronic health data for application of machine learning or artificial intelligence tools, interoperability with EHR systems, and evaluation of algorithm predictive performance. The Assistant Professor is also expected to lead research personnel involved in the Dept of Surgery ATLAS Ai program. They will interact directly with postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and medical students.</div></div><div><div><h2 class="jobSectionHeader">
Job Duties</h2></div><div><ul><li>Oversee and coordinate logistics and execution of various research projects.</li><li>Manage project progress and execution of project goals and milestones.</li><li>Plan and direct research experiments related to research studies implementing the MasSpec Pen technology for tissue analysis and cancer detection.</li><li>Organize, evaluate, and analyze data with other researchers.</li><li>Develop research techniques and perform applications required for specific research projects.</li><li>Conduct literature searches and summarize information in an appropriate format for a particular study.</li><li>Document results of experiments and reports to principal investigators.</li><li>Supervise, schedule and coordinate the activities of the research team involved in multiple research projects.</li><li>Write progress reports, manuscripts and grant proposals.</li><li>Manage execution of experiments using mass spectrometry instrumentation, as well as data and statistical analysis.</li><li>Lead clinical studies and participate in research involving human subjects.
