The Sanner lab is part of the Center for Computational Structural Biology (CCSB) at Scripps where we develop cutting edge software for modeling, analyzing, and visualizing molecular interactions which we make available to the worldwide research community. Under the AutoDock Suite umbrella of automated docking software tools we have recently developed AutoDock CrankPep (ADCP in short), a docking engine specifically designed for ab-initio docking of fully flexible peptides. We are seeking a highly motivated and talented individual interested in method development in automated docking and their application to biomedically relevant drug discovery efforts. The successful candidate will join a lab integrated in the highly collaborative CCSB center and continue developing the ADCP software and apply it to biomedically relevant targets.</p>
<p>
The position involves extending the ADCP software code in the C, C++, and Python programming languages, testing the implementation and applying the software to biomedically relevant targets, mostly in the context of collaborations with experimental biologists. We're also working in integrating ADCP with AI methods such as AlphaFold which have emerged and effective peptide docking engines.</p>

The lab (www.stjude.org/research/labs/demontis-lab.html) is located in the Department of Developmental Neurobiology at St. Jude Children&rsquo;s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN, USA. We use mice and Drosophila to decipher the conserved mechanisms of muscle aging and proteostasis, and how muscle-derived signals (myokines) affect proteostasis and the progression of age-related diseases in the central nervous system (Genes&amp;Development, 2020; Cell Metabolism, 2021; Trend in Molecular Medicine, 2026; Developmental Cell, 2026).</p><p></p><p>
In addition to a Ph.D., the candidate should have expertise in molecular, biochemical, and cell biological techniques. Training in Drosophila neurobiology and tauopathy is preferred but not required.</p><p><br>

 This project aims at developing an implantable self-powered cardiac stimulation system, which features energy harvesting from the motion of heart, power management, wireless communication, and recording of cardiac activities. The proposed system utilizes a stretchable transducer that converts the movement to electricity, which is rectified and converted to DC power by the IC. This power is managed and provided to other system components. One of them is an electrical stimulator that provides electric charges to the tissue, i.e. heart tissue in this specific case. All the stimulation parameters, including current amplitude, polarity, time, and frequency, are programmable via wireless communication. In order to ensure the safe operation of the implant, the system includes multiple recording channels of electrical signals and electrochemical signals. This project will involve the design, fabrication, and experimental validation of ICs that include various blocks, including energy harvesting, stimulation, recording, communication, and power management. This system can be applied to cardiac stimulation, brain stimulation, and also peripheral nerve stimulation.
