The Role

Are you a seasoned Appian developer with a passion for crafting impactful technology solutions and mentoring others? As the Lead Demo Engineer for Appian's SPEAR Team in Chennai, you'll take on a dual role: leading the day-to-day operations of the Chennai Demo Engineers and serving as a senior individual contributor yourself. You'll play a critical part in scaling Appian's global Presales organization by managing team workflows, providing technical guidance, and personally delivering the highest-quality demo assets that fuel hundreds of sales engagements each year. 


In this role, you'll act as both a manager and a technical lead. Behind every great demo is a great demo asset, and that's where you come in. As a Demo Engineer on Appian's SPEAR Team in Chennai, you are the technical backbone that turns one-off sales demos into a polished, reusable, continuously evolving library that powers hundreds of sales engagements each year. While our Solutions Consultants are out in the field telling stories and co-creating with customers, you ensure they always have the right asset, in the right shape, ready to go. 


In this role, you'll capture, refine, and expand Appian product demos - de-branding prospect-specific work, modernizing older assets with the latest platform capabilities, and packaging everything into reusable demos, clickable demo experiences, walkthrough videos, and scripts. In this role, you will play a key role in shaping ABB Robotics' automation solutions for the rapidly growing data center market. Working closely with customers, sales teams, Global Solution Centers, and technology partners, you will translate customer needs into scalable, standardized automation concepts that drive innovation and deliver business value. You will act as the technical lead throughout the early solution lifecycle, ensuring a seamless transition from concept to execution while contributing to the continuous evolution of ABB's data center automation portfolio.</div></div><div>

Your responsibilities:
<ul><li>Solution Architecture &amp; Application Engineering: Develop scalable, standardized automation solutions for data centers by translating customer requirements into robust system architectures and application concepts.</li><li>
Presales &amp; Technical Consulting: Partner with Sales, Key Account teams, Global Solution Centers, and ecosystem partners to shape customer opportunities, develop technical proposals, and act as ABB's technical expert in customer discussions, workshops, and bids.</li><li>
Technical Leadership &amp; System Integration: Lead the technical definition of integrated automation solutions combining robotics, automation, IT/OT infrastructure, and partner technologies, ensuring alignment from solution design through project execution.</li><li>
Project Support: Support the transition from presales to execution by providing technical guidance during key project phases and ensuring continuity throughout the project lifecycle.</li><li>
Continuous Improvement &amp; Innovation: Capture customer and field feedback to enhance standardized solution architectures and contribute to the development of next-generation automation concepts for data centers, including robotics and AI-enabled operations.</li></ul> 
Qualifications for the role:<ul><li>
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Automation, Robotics, or a related technical field.</li><li>
5&ndash;10 years of experience in application engineering, systems engineering, solution architecture, or a similar customer-facing technical role.</li><li>
Experience with industrial automation, robotics, system integration, or data center infrastructure, with the ability to develop end-to-end technical solutions.</li><li>
Proven experience supporting presales activities, technical consulting, or bid management in a complex engineering environment.</li><li>
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence customers and cross-functional teams without direct authority.</li><li>
Fluency in English is required, along with a willingness to travel globally for up to 50% of the time, including occasional travel at short notice.</li></ul></div>
