We are seeking a motivated, career-oriented, and customer-focused Principal Software Engineer to join our team in Annapolis Junction, Maryland.
<h4 class="jobSectionHeader">
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES</h4><ul><li>
Develops, maintains, and enhances complex and diverse software systems (e.g., processingintensive analytics, novel algorithm development, manipulation of extremely large data sets and realtime systems).</li><li>
Analyze user requirements to derive software design and performance requirements</li><li>
Debug existing software and correct defects</li></ul>
Provide recommendations for improving documentation and software development process standards
<ul><li>
Design and code new software or modify existing software to add new features</li></ul>
Integrate existing software into new or modified systems or operating environments
<ul><li>
Develop simple data queries for existing or proposed databases or data repositories</li><li>
Write or review software and system documentation</li><li>
Serve as team lead at the level appropriate to the software development process being used on any particular project Design or implement complex database or data repository interfaces/queries</li><li>
Develop or implement algorithms to meet or exceed system performance and functional standards</li><li>
Assist with developing and executing test procedures for software components</li><li>
Develop software solutions by analyzing system performance standards, confer with users or system engineers; analyze systems flow, data usage and work processes; and investigate problem areas</li><li>
Modify existing software to correct errors, to adapt to new hardware, or to improve its performance</li><li>
Design, develop and modify software systems, using scientific analysis and mathematical models to predict and measure outcome and consequences of design</li></ul><h4 class="jobSectionHeader">
REQUIRED SKILLS</h4><ul><li>
Twelve (12) years&rsquo; experience as a Software Engineer in programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity is required.</li><li>
Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in computer science or related discipline from an accredited college or university is required. Four (4) years of additional experience on projects with similar software processes may be substituted for a bachelor&rsquo;s degree.</li><li>
Experience with 3 OR 4 of the followings: Java, Spring Boot, MongoDB, Kubernetes, Rancher RKE2, Kalka, AWS; RHEL, LLMs, S3/Minio, Elasticsearch, Nifi</li><li>
Demonstrated expertise in managing large Kubernetes clusters, Large MongoDB clusters, or migrated large systems to AWS in a hybrid architecture.</li></ul><h4 class="jobSectionHeader">
SECURITY REQUIREMENTS</h4><ul><li>
Current/Active TS/SCI with Full Scope Polygraph.</li></ul>

 Role Overview
 
 
 We are looking for a highly experienced
 
 Principal Computer Vision &amp; AI Engineer
 
 to lead the technical direction of production AI systems operating over
 
 live video streams in real-world environments
 
 .
 
 
 
 
 
 This is a hands-on technical leadership role rather than a people-management position. You will architect, build, optimise and deploy advanced
 
 computer vision, video understanding and multimodal/Vision-Language Model (VLM)
 
 systems while providing technical direction to senior engineers.
 
 
 
 
 
 Key Responsibilities

 Architect and build production
 
 computer vision and video analytics systems

 <li>
 Develop solutions across
 
 object detection, segmentation, tracking, event understanding and spatial reasoning

 <li>
 Design and deploy
 
 VLM/multimodal AI systems
 
 operating over live and recorded video.
 </li>
 <li>
 Own the full ML lifecycle: data strategy, experimentation, fine-tuning, evaluation, deployment and monitoring.
 </li>
 <li>
 Optimise models for
 
 edge and cloud inference
 
 , balancing accuracy, latency, throughput and cost.
 </li>
 <li>
 Establish automated model evaluation, regression testing and production monitoring.
 </li>
 <li>
 Develop agentic AI systems capable of reasoning over video and interacting safely with tools, APIs, cameras and sensors.
 </li>
 <li>
 Set technical architecture and engineering standards while remaining highly hands-on with code.
 </li>

 What We're Looking For
 
 <ul>

 Deep hands-on experience in
 
 Computer Vision / Video AI

 Strong production experience working with
 
 live or streaming video

 </li>

 Strong
 
 PyTorch and/or TensorFlow
 
 experience.

 <li>
 Expertise across detection, segmentation and tracking using technologies such as
 
 YOLO, DETR/RT-DETR, GroundingDINO or equivalent
 
 .
 </li>
 <li>
 Production experience with
 
 Vision-Language Models / multimodal models
 
 such as Qwen-VL, InternVL, LLaVA, Gemini or equivalent.
 </li>
 <li>
 Experience deploying and optimising AI models in production.
 </li>
 <li>
 Exposure to
 
 edge AI
 
 , ideally TensorRT, ONNX Runtime, NVIDIA Jetson or similar.
 </li>
 <li>
 Strong understanding of model evaluation, MLOps, active learning and production monitoring.
 </li>
 <li>
 Ability to operate as a
 
 Principal/Staff-level technical authority
 
 while remaining hands-on.
 </li>
 </ul>
 
 Nice to Have

 Agentic AI / tool-calling systems such as LangGraph, LangChain or equivalent.
