Responsibilities - What you&rsquo;ll do
This is a Correctional Officer position that is assigned to Mobile Custody Team and requires extensive travel statewide.
This position will have an official domicile at the South Central Correctional Center in Licking, MO. However, this position will be required to travel to DAI facilities across the state of Missouri to assist with staffing needs as approved by the respective Deputy Division Director. The annual salary for this position is $45,555.60, which is based on a normal 40-hour workweek. This position is also eligible for retention/longevity pay, shift differential and overtime pay in accordance with departmental policy D2-8.4 Compensatory Time and Office of Administration&rsquo;s Division of Personnel Differential Pay Guidelines.
The work schedule is Monday through Friday, 12pm (noon) to 12am (midnight). The Mobile Custody Team Officer will be expected to report to the South Central Correctional Center by noon each Monday in order to receive orders on which facility the team will be assisting. In addition, the Mobile Custody Team Officer will return to the South Central Correctional Center at approximately midnight on Friday of each week.
While on assignment, Mobile Custody Team Officers will be provided a state vehicle for transportation to and from the assisted facility, provided lodging while travelling and will be reimbursed for meals that are not provided by the institution or hotel. Mobile Custody Team Officers will be required to carpool in the state vehicle and may be required to reside with a roommate while travelling.
Candidates will be expected to maintain security in buildings/towers/other posts of an adult correctional facility; intervene during emergencies or altercations and gain physical control of offenders. This position will also supervise movement of offenders inside/outside the correctional facility; conduct periodic counts of offenders; search offenders and their living quarters for contraband; escort/transport offenders to predetermined locations. Candidates will be expected to supervise offenders: in housing units; during the performance of work activities; and during recreational/religious activities as well as supervises visits with offenders; and search visitors/offenders/buildings/grounds for contraband.
The candidate will be expected to conduct inspections for health and safety hazards; prepare/submit reports on offender violations of divisional or correctional facility rules/unusual offender behaviors/observed mechanical deficiencies/security breaches or failures. In addition, the candidate will be expected to discuss minor adjustment problems with offenders; refer serious problems to proper correctional facility staff; and promote rehabilitation by attempting to modify offender&rsquo;s social attitudes/discouraging undesirable behaviors/encouraging worthwhile activities.
This position will perform other related work as assigned.

<li>A $0.75 per hour maximum security stipend if you work full-time at a qualifying facility.</li>
<li>A $1.00 per hour restrictive housing stipend if you are assigned a regular post within a restrict housing/segregation unit at any facility.</li>

<div>The Corrections Officer Trainee participates in formal training sessions and on-the-job assignments to develop skills and techniques in the custody and supervision of inmates in a state correctional facility. Work is performed under the direct supervision of a corrections officer. Work in this position involves the care, custody, control, and non-professional counseling of inmates. 
 
Duties and other information for this position include:<ul><li>
Direct and indirect contact with inmates and visitors.</li><li>
Directing inmates and maintaining security in cellblocks, housing units, cottages, work areas, dining, and recreation areas, by monitoring the movement and activities of inmates.</li><li>
Observing inmates and inmate behavior by making periodic and unannounced rounds, head counts, and security checks, and reporting anything unusual to a corrections officer.</li><li>
Work a 40-hour work week with shifts to be determined, work any shift and work in all areas of the institution as assigned, work overtime as required by operation necessities and emergencies, work on those weekends and holidays which occur during your normal work schedule, and report to work under adverse weather conditions.</li><li>
Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.</li><li>
Participating in formalized instruction in the areas of sociology, psychology, court procedures, self-defense, leadership, custodial responsibilities, and the facility&rsquo;s organizational structure.</li><li>
Providing advice and guidance in assisting inmates in their adjustment to and participating in correctional processes and the Department's rules and regulations.</li><li>
Prepare written reports.</li><li>

 Why does the job exist?
 
This is a trainee position that involves the completion of the New Mexico Corrections Department (NMCD) Training Academy and field training. The Cadet will attend, participate in, and successfully complete the NMCD Training Academy within 12 months of hire.
 
Employment is subject to passing pre-employment screening that may include background investigation, agility testing, and psychological testing.
 Minimum Qualification
 
High School Diploma or equivalency.
 Employment Requirements
 
This position is designed safety sensitive. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing in accordance with all terms and conditions of Federal and State law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing. Successful completion of the New Mexico Corrections Academy within one (1) year of hire is required. Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico Driver's License.
