Responsibilities - What you&rsquo;ll do
Serves on a classification team; evaluates the offender&rsquo;s institutional adjustment attitude toward society and release plans, prepares ; makes recommendations relative to ORAS &amp; Case planning assignments/facility transfers/disciplinary actions
Secures and verifies information from incarcerated adult offenders concerning their home life/family relationships/work history/other pertinent personal and social factors; develops/maintains/reviews classification files
Assesses classification status/prepares analysis for program eligibility determinations using Adult Internal Classification System (AICS), Reclassification Analysis (RCA), and Initial Classification Analysis (ICA) instruments
Acts as grievance officer; processes and responds to Informal Resolution Requests (IRRs); holds disciplinary hearings on conduct violations; participates in treatment team meetings
Processes offenders: completing initial file review/protective custody assessment/enters enemy waivers/updates enemy lists
Maintains open-door office policy; handles offender&rsquo;s laundry/property/financial concerns/mail and censorship notices/notifies offenders of critical illness/death of immediate family members
Participates/assists in assigned offender&rsquo;s vocational, educational, and social adjustment planning; facilitates offender programs; evaluates civilian visiting applications and determines whether to approve or deny the individual&rsquo;s request to visit with offender; provides pre-release counseling; researches and identifies community resources/services prior to processing offenders for release
Cooperates with public/private agencies/law enforcement agencies in matters relating to assigned offenders, arranges/facilitates calls to attorneys, public agencies, and law enforcement agencies
Performs work in accordance with established rules and regulations; receives close administrative direction and performs other related work duties as assigned
Qualifications - All you need for success
Minimum Qualifications:
Four or more years of experience as a Probation &amp; Parole Assistant, Correctional Officer, or Office Support Assistant or above within the Missouri Department of Corrections. OR
Four or more years of vocational or paraprofessional experience in social services, probation and parole, corrections casework/custody, law enforcement, guidance/counseling, mental health, health, substance use, public/business administration, or experience closely related to the listed responsibilities
(Earned credit hours from an accredited college or university may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience at a rate of 30 earned credit hours for one year)

New hires to the MDOC along with previous MDOC employees that are returning after being away from the department for more than two years will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) either 40 hours or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on their level of offender contact and job classification. All new employees will complete additional online training to successfully complete their non-custody new employee training.

</ul><h3 class="jobSectionHeader">ESSENTIAL DUTIES
</h3>
The Probation Educator delivers training for county probation, detention and management staff, attorneys, law enforcement officials, judges, and other government officials. The Probation Educator will work under the general supervision of the Probation Training Specialist as part of the Probation Services- Programming Unit.

<h3 class="jobSectionHeader">FUNCTIONS INCLUDE
</h3><ul><li>Delivers internal trainings to Probation Services staff as well as other AOIC divisions on topics including, but not limited to, professional development, writing skills, communication skills, and legal and evidence-based practices in probation services.</li>
<li>Delivers trainings to external stakeholders who play a key role in the delivery of probation services, such as public defenders, state&rsquo;s attorneys, judges, administrative court staff, and law enforcement officials.</li>
<li>Travels throughout Illinois to deliver assigned trainings.</li>
<li>Serves as subject matter expert on probation services and on training methods and best practices.</li>
<li>Works closely with the Illinois Supreme Court Judicial College as well as the Committee on Probation Education.</li>
<li>Assists in maintaining training records.</li>
<li>Completes other duties as assigned.</li>
</ul><h3 class="jobSectionHeader">EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
</h3>
Minimum Qualifications

<ul><li>A Bachelor&rsquo;s Degree in social science, education, public administration, criminal justice, or a related field.
</li><li>Three or more years of experience providing training to attorneys, judges, law enforcement, probation officers, parole officers, pretrial services officers, or others within the criminal justice system.</li><li>
Effective oral and written communication, presentation, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.</li><li>
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office products (i.e., Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook) as well as video conferencing platforms (i.e., Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Kaltura Virtual Classroom) and Articulate.</li><li>
Must have reliable Internet connection at primary residence as well as limited distractions during work hours.</li><li>
Ability to interact with co-workers positively and professionally as well as work independently.</li></ul>

Preferred Qualifications
<ul><li>Five or more years of experience training in the field of criminal justice, community corrections, pretrial services, probation, parole, public or business administration, education, or other similar setting.</li><li>
Knowledge of the criminal justice system including related Illinois statutes, regulations, procedures and operations at the trial court level, and a comprehensive perspective of legal and evidence-based probation services including pragmatic applicability and implementation.</li><li>
Five or more years&rsquo; experience working in community corrections or justice system in Illinois.</li></ul>
<h3 class="jobSectionHeader">PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
</h3>
This position requires the ability to sit for extended periods of time. This is a professional office working environment, requiring telephone usage and the ability to process written documents. Applicant must have the ability to travel and possess a valid Illinois driver's license and demonstrate proof of automobile insurance to operate a personal vehicle on state business, as well as maintain a safe driving record. Occasional overnight travel is required.
