Responsibilities
 The Utilities Automation Engineer will join the Utilities, Facilities, and Project Engineering team as the site Subject Matter Expert (SME) in establishing the maintenance and reliability strategy and being directly accountable for utilities / facilities automation machine controls, integrations, and data at the Lilly Kenosha County (LKC) campus. This position supports maintenance and optimization of the utilities / facilities automation machine controls, integrations, and data across the LKC campus which include utilities / facilities Automation Systems (BMS, EMS, QBMS, Clean Utility) for HVAC (GMP and Non-GMP) and Utilities systems, both GMP (PW, WFI, Clean Steam, Process Compressed Air, etc.) and non-GMP (Plant Steam, Chilled Water, Water, Waste Neutralization, Sewer, etc.) and the ancillary systems controls and devices associated within their facilities. This is a hands-on role where the engineer may be required to perform troubleshooting of automation machine controls, root cause analysis, and component and system analyses to identify utilities / facilities automation machine controls improvements and reduce risks, design modifications, and /or various utilities / facilities automation machine controls improvement strategies on the GMP and Non-GMP assets and the ancillary systems controls and devices associated within their facilities.
 
Key Objectives/Deliverables: 
<ul>
<li>Be the SME with a deep technical expertise in all systems under scoped responsibility (GMP and non-GMP HVAC, GMP and non-GMP Utilities and ancillary systems controls and devices associated within their facilities), understanding their applications in pharmaceutical manufacturing, understanding flow charts and process parameters, and awareness of industry trends.</li>
<li>Responsible for utilities / facilities automation (QBMS, Clean Utility, and Door Control) hardware and software maintenance in Utilities Engineering, including procedure establishment, quality and HSE requirement compliance, troubleshooting, PM, routine monitoring, and deviation investigations and prevention.</li>
<li>Ensure the assigned processes are in alignment with Industry and Lilly Standards.</li>
<li>Support risk assessment exercises using the different tools available (e.g., FMEA).</li>
<li>Participate as required in teams, committees, or other groups and/or individually to achieve the departmental, site, and/or company goals.</li>
<li>Monitor utility systems and their respective controls and devices, and maintain KPI’s to assure that they are operating properly, in compliance with requirements.</li>
<li>Provide written instructions for the proper way to operate and maintain the equipment and process to assure that the system operates within the controlled parameters.</li>
<li>Implement efficient and effective maintenance and reliability techniques.</li>
<li>Apply problem solving skills by leading equipment failures troubleshooting, demonstrating RCA lead investigator proficiency, and guide operations personnel in the resolution of process issues.</li>
<li>Provide customer consultation and notifications on issues that involve utilities areas assigned.</li>
<li>Assure that all necessary items are identified on the proper tracking systems and make sure that items are completed by the required date.</li>
<li>Provide technical assistance as necessary to maintenance and operations personnel.</li>
<li>Support internal and external inspections and investigations (including Quality and HSE).</li>
<li>Maintain efficient communications with appropriate site customer groups.</li>
<li>Proficiency with the QMS CAPA systems (e.g., TrackWise, Veeva).</li>
<li>Capable of data mining, data analysis, process monitoring, and lead process control tuning parameters.</li>
<li>Assure that there is adequate site generation and distribution capacity by monitoring the site usage and staying abreast of future site requirements. This includes providing information for the site utilities master plan and reviewing the information provided by the customers as to their current and future demands.</li>
<li>Consult on technical issues with operators, responsible engineers, and crafts.</li>
<li>Maintain, develop, and conduct operations training of utility systems automation controls.</li>
<li>Utilize statistical analysis tools to determine the process control, and capability for investigations.</li>
<li>Comply with and support departmental HSE plans.</li>
<li>Ensure the systems comply with all Health, Safety, and Environmental policies and procedures, and knowledge of Process Safety Management processes. (i.e., PSSR, GIPSM, CPH, etc.).</li>
<li>Technical resource during process hazard reviews.</li>
<li>Participate in Process Hazard Review meetings and/or Safety Teams as required by leadership.</li>
<li>Identify risks and escalate situation with a sense of urgency.</li>

Basic Qualifications

<li>Education: minimum educational requirement to perform the position:</li>
<li>Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or field closely related to robotic engineering, automation engineering, or equivalent experience.</li>

This facility is intended to provide APIs for current and future products, including new modalities.  The Associate Director – Engineering (Automation) is responsible for the supervision of the process control engineers and technicians that support the daily operations of the facility. <li>Develop and implement the Process Control Engineering Business Plan.</li>

<li>Be a fully active member of the flow leadership in running the plant, including participating on management sub-teams.</li>
<li>Develop future management and technical expert leadership for the site.</li>

Basic Qualifications: 
<ul>
<li>Minimum B.S. in Engineering (preferably Chemical Engineering)</li>
<li>5 + years of experience in Process Control and Automation Engineering, preferably in API manufacturing.</li>
<li>3+ years of related leadership experience</li>
</ul>

<li>Experience with automation platforms including Rockwell Automation and Emerson DeltaV.</li>

Actual compensation will depend on a candidate’s education, experience, skills, and geographic location. The anticipated wage for this position is
 $123,000 - $180,400

Responsible for monitoring, optimizing, and continuously improving Banbury mixing processes to ensure consistent product quality, operational efficiency, and process reliability. Utilizes data-driven analysis, process control techniques, and root cause investigation to identify opportunities for improvement, reduce variability, minimize waste, and lower manufacturing costs. Collaborates with production, quality, maintenance, and technical teams to implement process enhancements, standardize best practices, improve sustainability, and maximize overall plant performance and profitability.
 
Responsibilities: 
<ul>
<li>Monitor, maintain, and continuously improve Banbury mixing, milling, extrusion, and downstream manufacturing processes to ensure product quality, process consistency, and operational efficiency.</li>
<li>Lead process optimization initiatives by analyzing process data, identifying sources of variation, and implementing sustainable corrective actions.</li>
<li>Develop, validate, and maintain process parameters and operating windows for mixing, milling, extrusion, curing, and secondary manufacturing operations.</li>
<li>Create and maintain manufacturing documentation, including process specifications, work instructions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), control plans, and data collection systems.</li>
<li>Ensure new compounds, formulations, and process changes are successfully transitioned into production through structured trials, validation, and operator training.</li>
<li>Collaborate with Production, Quality, Maintenance, Technical, and Supply Chain teams to ensure manpower, equipment, materials, and process controls are prepared to support production requirements.</li>
<li>Participate in new product introductions, process reviews, and manufacturing feasibility assessments to ensure robust and efficient production methods.</li>
<li>Investigate process, quality, and productivity issues using structured problem-solving methodologies including Root Cause Analysis, 5 Whys, Fishbone Diagrams, Pareto Analysis, and 8D.</li>

<li>Experience leading cross-functional projects from concept through implementation and sustainment.</li>
<li>Working knowledge of APQP, SPC, and structured problem-solving methodologies.</li>
<li>Demonstrated ability to analyze manufacturing data and make decisions based on objective evidence and process performance metrics.</li>
<li>Strong project management, organizational, and prioritization skills with the ability to manage multiple initiatives simultaneously.</li>
<li>Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization.</li>
