Job Summary:
Under the general direction of the Site Coordinator and with support from the Program Manager and Assistant Program Manager the Program Leader provides direct leadership in conducting a culturally responsive academic enrichment program to assist children in language arts, math enrichment, social development, and homework help/tutoring. The Program Leader encourages student success and self-esteem using materials and curriculum provided by the program such as sports and games, STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, math), visual and performing arts, and community building circles.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:<ul><li>

In coordination with the Site Coordinator and Program Manager and Assistant Program Manager, serve as an active member of the after school program team, which includes developing and maintaining a safe, orderly, fun, and supportive learning environment in which children thrive.</li><li>
With the guidance and assistance from the Site Coordinator, PM, and APM, plan, implement and participate in developmentally appropriate curriculum for groups of children including homework and tutoring assistance, and enrichment and recreation activities.</li><li>
Direct students into safe activities and in the development of beneficial social behavior using positive reinforcement strategies and techniques.</li><li>
Actively participate in staff development workshops and other staff meetings that are designed to contribute to personal and professional growth and program success.</li><li>
Manage classroom operations, including completing attendance reports, student or program evaluations, and other reports as assigned.</li><li>
Communicate program, supply, or student concerns to the Site Coordinator in a timely manner.</li><li>
Maintain accurate, up to date records on the behavioral and health concerns, for each child throughout participation in the program.</li><li>
Develop professional and positive relationships with the children, parents, and volunteers, as well as school and program staff or community partners through consistent, culturally competent, and professional communication.</li><li>
Coordinate assistance of assigned youth and adult volunteers in the delivery of the curriculum by providing specific instructions and feedback. Report any concerns to the Site Coordinator as soon as possible.</li><li>
Monitor student&rsquo;s academic performance and attendance through regular communication with students, parents, school staff, and the Site Coordinator.</li><li>
Conduct evaluations and implement recommendations from periodic program evaluations.</li><li>
Assist the Site Coordinator with developing, conducting, and supervising events such as field trips or special activities to improve student success and the well-being of program participant families.</li><li>
Participate in advocacy, special events, or fund development opportunities to raise awareness and resources of agency services and programs for youth.</li><li>
Ensure that the program meets attendance goals by assisting with recruitment of youth and in implementing an on-going recruitment plan.</li><li>
Assist in administering a daily nutritional snack.</li><li>
Ensure work areas are orderly and clean at the end of each session.</li><li>
Administer first aid, if necessary and seek assistance for serious illness/injury.</li><li>
Implement applicable district, agency, and all grant policies and regulations.</li><li>
Arrive on time for scheduled work shifts and perform work duties for the entire shift.</li><li>
Perform other related duties as assigned.</li></ul>
Requirements:<ul><li>
Preferred requirements: a minimum of 48 college credit units or an Associate&rsquo;s degree.</li><li>
Minimum requirements: High School Diploma or GED. Must be able to pass the Instructional Aide Test.</li><li>
Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred.</li><li>
Passion for helping school-aged children to achieve academic and personal success.</li></ul>

POSITION DEFINITION: 
The incumbent in this position shall be responsible for the management of a wide variety of projects or assignments, including those that are large, strategic or complex in nature, in the field of water and wastewater construction. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

POSITION OVERVIEW 
The High School Program Leader in academics is responsible for supporting the student's academic needs through one-on-one tutoring, group tutoring, and academic advising. This role will provide you with valuable professional development and personal growth opportunities as you will have the chance to work with different grade bands (9th-12th). This role is for those who are available to work 5 days a week during the school year at Redwood City Clubhouse in Redwood City, CA and reports to the Academic Director. Drawing upon best practices in youth development, you will guide students to build academic and life skills in a meaningful, fun context.

Major Duties
 
The primary function of this position is to provide appropriate specialized developmental care and instruction for children and youth in a DoD Children and Youth Program (CYP). Serves as CYP Technician in one or more CYPs. Works under the written and verbal direction of the supervisor, who provides guidance on scope of assignments and assistance on the more complex, non-routine problems encountered. Work is reviewed in terms of results achieved and adherence to established standards and procedures. Routine day-to-day assignments are normally performed independently with technical assistance available from supervisor when required. Routine assignments are spot-checked; the more technical assignments are closely reviewed for adherence to policies, procedures, and instructions.
 
Serves as a mentor for assigned CY team. Works with senior staff to provide instruction and training to lower-level employees. Assists lower-level employees in completing the Foundation Training Program. Assists the Training & Curriculum (T&C) Specialist in helping lower-level program assistants translate professional development training into practice. Models appropriate behaviors and techniques for working with children and youth. Provides suggestions and makes recommendations to credential practicum candidates. Records observations and charts progress of team members¿ on-the-job skills and reports findings to trainer. Frequently consults the T&C Specialist on strategies to further assist team members¿ professional development efforts. Provides input to the supervisor as requested concerning promotions, reassignments, performance evaluations, incentive awards, etc. Provides input to CY training plans based on observed training needs.
 
Works within prescribed staff-to-participant ratios with children and youth ranging in age from 6 weeks to 18 years. Maintains control and accounts for the whereabouts and safety of participants. Oversees arrival and departure and supervises participants during daily schedule of indoor and outdoor activities and on field trips, outings, and special events. Plans, coordinates, and conducts activities for program participants based on observed needs of individual children and youth. Prepares and implements program options for participants with special needs. Encourages participant¿s interest and establishes a program setting that promotes positive interactions with other children, youth, and adults. Provides recommendations to the T&C Specialist and Program Lead of changes and adjustments to activities and plans where necessary to meet unusual situations.
 
Continually reviews activities and plans for appropriateness. Works with the T&C Specialist, supervisors, and Program Lead to implement activities and special events that meet the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive needs of participants. Works with CYP team members to prepare, arrange, and maintain indoor and outdoor activity areas and materials to accommodate daily schedules. Assists participants with special projects, homework, and life skills.
 
Interacts with participants using appropriate approved child guidance and youth development techniques. Interacts professionally with staff members, parents, and local installation command personnel. Participates in conferences with parents, program staff, school representatives, and local installation command personnel. Briefs other employees and parents. Notes special instructions provided by parents. Ensures participants (as applicable) depart with authorized person according to written parental instructions. Plans and conducts activities for parents encouraging parents to become involved.
 
Observes program participants for signs that may indicate illness, abuse, or neglect and reports as directed. Sets up displays and bulletin boards. Arranges for and serves appropriate snacks or meals where applicable. Inventories equipment on a recurring basis and recommends replenishing damaged, missing, and depleted supplies. Secures supplies, equipment, and facilities. Collects, maintains, and reports program participation data.
 
Uses designated evaluation materials to ensure assigned area is in compliance with Marine Corps and local installation command baseline standards and metrics. Ensures assigned area achieves and maintains standards for DoD certification and national accreditation or equivalent. Provides care and supervision, oversight, and accountability for program participants in compliance with Marine Corps and local installation command policies, guidance, and standards.
 
Completes training requirements using approved OSD and Service materials, to include designated training modules. Ensures compliance with law, policies, and regulations applicable to DoD CY programs.
 
Performs other related duties as assigned. May work a fluctuating work schedule to complete work assignments outside of the typical work hours.
 
Qualifications
 
Be 18 years of age, possess a high school diploma or equivalent, have the ability to speak, read and write English, follow verbal and written instructions and communicate effectively orally and in writing. Be able to lift and carry children and objects up to 45lbs independently and over 45lbs with assistance. Activities may require incumbent to drive an automobile (to include driving a government vehicle while transporting children). May be required to obtain a government driver¿s license. Prior experience working with children, youth or teens required.
 Skill to interpret and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum and practices for children and teens.
 
Must have one of the following: completion of DoD Standardized Module training AND twenty four months experience at the CY-II (GSE-04) level OR a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or Military School-Age (MSA) credential AND completion of 1 year at the CY Program Assistant/base level 4 where incumbent displayed knowledge of and competency in developmentally appropriate programming for children and youth OR a minimum of a 2-year degree in Youth Development, Child Development or related field, which can include recreation, youth recreation, physical education, elementary education, secondary education, early childhood education, psychology, social work, home economics with emphasis in human development, or other degrees as appropriate. Successfully complete all required training for Program Assistant (Entry, Intermediate and Target Level).
 
Satisfactorily complete all background checks in accordance with DoD and Marine Corps policy for employees who provide child care services. Must pass a pre-employment physical and annual physicals thereafter, provide evidence of immunization and be free from communicable disease. Must complete all DoD training requirements within the specified time including orientation, initial, DoD Standardized Module Training, and annual ongoing training requirements, and required certifications, if any. Must maintain current food handlers, CPR and First Aid certifications. Position is subject to both pre-employment and random drug testing as a condition of employment. A positive drug test, or failure to submit for testing, may become the basis for removal from this position.
