EXAMPLE OF DUTIES
 EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSEvaluates patients for medical necessity and psychiatric needs. Provides treatment for patients including medication management. Prescribes appropriate medications, diagnostic testing, and other necessary procedures. Checks and records vital signs of patients and performs related tests as required. Consults with staff members on individual cases to ensure optimum levels of care and case management is provided. Fully documents diagnosis and treatment and monitors patient records for accuracy and completeness. Serves as Medical Director and approves Substance Use Disorder (SUD) treatment plans as required by the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS). Approves the policies and procedures for DHCS SUD programs. Reviews the SUD assessments for every client within 30 days of admission. Evaluates the diagnosis and medical necessity for SUD services. Approves SUD treatment justification forms before the 5th or 6th month of service. Signs DHCS treatment plans within 15 days of the counselor's signature. Ensures that there is a physical examination on file or that the SUD treatment plan has this as a goal. The medical director may not delegate any of the DHCS/SUD duties. Consults with and educates patients, family members, and other medical providers concerning treatment and recovery plans. Works collaboratively with other providers and peers working in the community. Provides on-going direction and education to staff. Responds to emergency medical situations as necessary.

Osawatomie State Hospital is licensed by the State of Kansas to provide care and treatment for adults diagnosed with psychiatric disorders regardless of ability to pay. There are currently two hospitals on the Osawatomie campus in Miami county: Osawatomie State Hospital (OSH) and Adair Acute Care (AAC). Adair Acute Care are a 60-bed facility, certified by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.
Position is located at Osawatomie State Hospital, days/hours may vary. This position may require you to work weekends. A negative drug screen is required as a condition of employment.
All employees are expected to work in a harmonious and cooperative fashion with other staff to provide efficient and effective customer service: to use free time as available to assist other staff in the completion of work assignments and perform other tasks as needed; to contribute to a positive work environment through a positive, helpful, courteous demeanor towards staff, customers and the general public; and to adhere to appropriate standards of conduct regarding the use of leave, reports to work on time and in the designated fashion.
Physician will provide on-site psychiatric, and to some extent, medical services. Physician will admit, evaluate, treat patients. Physician will enter required assessment, treatment, and discharge planning documentation in the Electronic Health Record (EHR). Physician will enter medication orders on the WinPharm pharmacy system. Physician will actively participate in the individualized multidisciplinary treatment process and discharge planning. Physician will participate in hospital wide performance improvement activities and other medical staff functions as assigned. Physician will prepare court reports in collaboration with the treatment team and will attend court hearings as expert witness.
The essential functions of this position may require physical strength to frequently push, pull, twist, bend, squat, walk, stand for extended periods of time, lift and/or restrain residents with or without assistance and respond to aggressive resident behavior with specific, trained techniques. Be able to observe and respond to residents in distress.
