Under general supervision, the Public Safety Telecommunicator is responsible for receiving and prioritizing all emergency and non-emergency requests for service and for dispatching appropriate public safety personnel and equipment in response to calls for service. This position is of critical importance for community and public safety, operating 24/7; including nights, weekends and holidays. Employees are required to use computer technology, which requires a high level of accuracy, attention to detail and multi-tasking skills.</div><p></p>

Answer incoming calls (radio and telephone). Ascertain nature of situation and its location</li><li>

Utilize the CAD and Records Management Systems (RMS) to their fullest capacity</li><li>
Operate National Crime Information Center (NCIC)/Minnesota Justice Information Systems (MNJIS) terminal to exchange information with other law enforcement agencies and verify driver records, vehicle registrations, criminal histories, stolen and recovered property, etc.</li><li>
Operate public notification system by sending out emergency notifications to public or page out SWAT, dive team or others as needed</li></ul><b>
Data Processing:</b><ul><li>
Request, disseminate, enter, verify, modify and cancel protected data through computerized terminals linked to State, Federal, Interstate and local Law Enforcement systems to include but not limited to; driver and motor vehicle information, National Crime Information Center (NCIC) 'hot files'; criminal histories; persons, property, vehicle and other restricted data files</li><li>
Assist records and jail staff with entering and removing NCIC/MNJIS records</li><li>
Provide general information not limited to; filing police reports, impounded vehicles, returned property, locations in the county; various telephone, address and contact information, special event information etc.</li><li>

Under the general supervision of the Public Safety Communications Supervisor, will learn the three areas of Public Safety Communications; operate telecommunications equipment to receive and evaluate incoming calls for police, fire and medical assistance; dispatch appropriate personnel and equipment to emergencies; operate and monitor the various CCTV systems and terminal alarms to provide surveillance support for daily incidents and criminal cases to local, state, and federal courts. Works closely with senior Communicators and Supervisor on how to operate the CCTV system across entire Airport campus, for incoming alarms, suspicious activities, and emergency responses; dispatches law enforcement for incoming alarms from terminal checkpoints in accordance with DPS Standard Operating Procedures and TSA regulations; monitor critical safety and security systems such as fire exit door alarms, exercising discretion in determining severity of situations and dispatching first responders accordingly.
</p></li><li><p>Monitors DPS radio traffic for calls to law enforcement, firefighters, and paramedics inside the terminals; utilizes CCTV equipment to follow and document police service calls for potential evidence in criminal or administrative cases.</p></li><li><p>
Ensures compliance with FCC regulations in telecommunications operations and monitors security areas via CCTV, dispatching law enforcement as needed.</p></li><li><p>
Supports law enforcement by retrieving, reviewing, copying, and distributing audio/visual recordings related to specific incidents, under the direction of a DPS Supervisor, for use as evidence in local, state, and federal court cases.</p></li><li><p>

 Probationary 911 Dispatchers will transition through various trainers, progressively applying the knowledge and skills developed during each previous phase of training. Upon successful completion of the initial training phases, probationary 911 Dispatchers are released to the Mentor phase for 3-4 months minimum. After completion of Mentor phase, 911 Dispatchers will be fully released to work independently.

The Transportation Management Center Operator performs full-performance level work in the Transportation Management Center. Under general supervision an employee in this classification works in an Intelligent Transportation Fusion Center. Work involves traffic systems control, incident/congestion management, and communications. Employees operate state-of-the-art computerized traffic management workstations designed to facilitate traffic flow and minimize congestion.
