Overview

This position is responsible for managing the daily operations and ensuring the success of Nursing for Women&rsquo;s Health (NWH), the official practice journal of AWHONN. NWH is a sister journal to AWHONN&rsquo;s official scientific journal JOGNN, and this role will work closely with the team of AWHONN staff and contracted Editors and Associate Editors who produce JOGNN and NWH. NWH is published six times per year.
DUTIES &amp; RESPONSIBILITIES
Journal Production
<ul><li>Develop and manage the journal&rsquo;s editorial calendar.</li><li>Oversee peer review process to ensure quality and timeliness of reviews.</li><li>Check submissions after editors&rsquo; edits for completeness and correctness; select callouts for articles.

Community Engagement &amp; Impact
<ul><li>Coordinate journals-related activities for the annual AWHONN Convention, including editors&rsquo; presentations, annual journal awards, and exhibit hall presence, including promotions.</li><li>Help coordinate multimedia promotions, including social media, author videos, and graphical abstracts.
</li><li>Work with marketing teams from AWHONN and the Publisher on promotional campaigns for the journal.</li><li>Other duties as assigned.</li></ul>

LEADERSHIP EXPECTATIONS
Serve as a knowledgeable resource on scholarly publishing for AWHONN staff. Promote a positive work environment for all staff and effectively collaborate with leadership team. This role currently has no direct supervisory responsibilities, but it does collaborate with and oversee the work of a contracted Editorial Coordinator.
SUPERVISION
Works independently under the guidance of the Director. Receives guidance on clarification and interpretation of policies of the organization. Work is occasionally reviewed upon completion. 
Requirements 
QUALIFICATIONS &amp; REQUIREMENTS
<ul><li>Bachelor&rsquo;s degree, preferably in English, communications, or related field.
</li><li>Editor in the Life Sciences (ELS) credential preferred.
</li><li>Demonstrated ability to successfully manage a scholarly journal in partnership with a commercial publisher. A minimum of 5 years of experience as a managing editor is required. Experience with nursing, maternal-newborn health, and/or women&rsquo;s health content is a plus.
</li><li>Demonstrated proficiency with an editorial content management system (Editorial Manager is preferred).</li><li>Demonstrated ability to edit scholarly content and fluency in APA style.
</li><li>Demonstrated ability to manage volunteer editorial boards and peer reviewers.
</li><li>Strong organizational and project management skills, attention to detail, and ability to meet multiple deadlines at once.</li><li>Demonstrated abilities in developing and maintaining effective, positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
</li><li>Exceptional verbal, written, listening, and interpersonal skills.
</li><li>Self-reliant and capable of quickly solving problems and resolving conflicts at various levels while working with remote teams.
</li><li>Ability to collect data, create reports, and prepare communications with attention to detail and accuracy.
</li><li>Demonstrated experience with social media.
</li><li>Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, and SharePoint; Adobe Acrobat; and Zoom.</li></ul> 
This position is remote and will be required to adhere to AWHONN&rsquo;s Telecommuter Policy. This individual may be requested to travel to AWHONN headquarters in Washington, DC on occasion and is required to travel to the AWHONN Convention annually.

Responsibilities 
The managing editor coordinates the work of editorial, multimedia creators and production to fulfill content creation deliverables and timelines and to produce trusted health information, evidence-based and Mayo Clinic-vetted knowledge created in text and multimedia formats and delivered through digital and print channels to empower target audiences to effectively manage their health at their stage in life. Responsible for factually, stylistically and grammatically correct content and timely creation and hand-off in assigned area(s). Qualifications 
The Managing Editor requires a Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or related field. Must have at least five years of publishing experience (creating content, editing content or overseeing the creation/editing of content) and demonstrated leadership abilities for managing people, projects or both. Proven track record for managing evidence-based editorial content published to multiple delivery channels. Must possess knowledge of or experience with mobile content strategy/practices and structured content principles. Proven track record for analyzing and accurately synthesizing actionable information from medical literature and subject matter experts. Experience in making deadline-driven editorial decisions and project management, and ability to effectively coach staff and thrive in a team environment.Background in health or science related information or subject matter expertise in health and wellness.
