Major Responsibilities<ul><li>
Evaluates patients, selects and administers assessment techniques, synthesizes information to establish appropriate patient care plan to include necessary modalities, procedures, exercise programs, therapeutic groups and patient education as warranted by a holistic view of the patient's diagnosis, condition, age, and discharge needs</li><li>
Gathers and interprets appropriate data from the medical record, physician reports, patient, and/or family as evidenced by documentation.</li><li>
Documents evaluations, tests, progress notes, daily treatment notes, attendance records, patient/family education, outcomes, discharge notes, and charges as needed.</li><li>
Communicates patient's evaluation and subsequent progress to physician, referral sources, and other clinical staff, coordinates patient's schedule and treatment programs, and discharge planning.</li><li>
Provides and documents patient and family education in regard to deficits, progress toward goals, and therapeutic techniques, with individualized instruction for a home program including equipment use.</li><li>
Directs and supervises activities of Physical Therapist Assistant, Physical Therapy Technician, students, and volunteers and assists with orienting new and rotating staff.</li></ul>
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education
Doctorate degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited school or educational requirements commensurate with the date of graduation
Maintains continuing education requirements as mandated by applicable state professional standards
Certification / Registration / License
Licensed Physical Therapist in the State upon which you work
Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers (obtained within 90 days unless department leader has determined is not required) by American Heart Association (AHA)

Ability to operate expertly the ultrasound equipment with specialized Cardiology software and a desktop computer is required.</li><li>

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
Sitting, standing, and walking are required throughout the day. Job duties sometimes require climbing stairs, kneeling, twisting, bending; on occasion, crouching, crawling and reaching overhead. Lifting of patients, equipment or supplies will be required up to 20 pounds frequently and 50 pounds occasionally. Able to laterally transfer patients 100 pounds rarely. Must be able to demonstrate any appropriate exercise and activities to patients/caregivers. Personal Protective Equipment such as gloves, goggles, gowns, and masks are sometimes required due to possible exposure to hazardous chemicals or blood and body fluids. Work is in a fast-paced clinical environment. The work environment is primarily indoors but occasionally outdoors.

Main Responsibilities:
Maintains knowledge of the varying aspects of all things Pulmonary as allowed within the therapist scope and licensure of the long-term care facility.
Administers respiratory therapy treatments and interventions, understands the purpose of each and the possible side effects associated with each.
Able to assess patient pain interfering with optimal level of function or participation in rehabilitation. Makes appropriate nursing contact for intervention.
Follows departmental equipment sterilization procedures and maintains effective infection control.
Documents all pertinent data on the patient&rsquo;s medical record following completion of any extension of the Pulmonary Program.
Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the differences in techniques and treatment modalities as performed on residents of varying acuity and age and life station.
Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. Inspects and tests respiratory therapy equipment to ensure that it is functioning safely and efficiently.
Maintains thorough knowledge of hazards of oxygen therapy.
Formulates care plan based on identified learning needs of a patient and evaluates effectiveness of learning. Patient&rsquo;s family is included in teaching as appropriate.
Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. Coordinates and directs patient care to ensure patients&rsquo; needs are met and that physcian orders and facility policy is followed.

Job Summary This position sets up, operates, and administers all types of respiratory care equipment and procedures to be used in the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory disease and illness to both general floor and critical care areas. Evaluates therapeutic objectives and outcomes and transcribes verbal orders from physicians in the medical record. Performs arterial puncture, blood gas analysis, co-oximetry, electrocardiograms, electrolytes, and other basic pulmonary function testing. Sets up, operates, and monitors mechanical ventilators as ordered. Makes appropriate changes as ordered. Assures the patency, stability, and location of the artificial airway. Assures adequate and appropriate humidification through the artificial airway. The therapist must be familiar with the operation of numerous different mechanical ventilators. They must also be proficient with many modes of mechanical ventilation and their applications. Assists with the transportation of mechanically ventilated patients to other patient care areas.Performs routine respiratory care treatments and oxygen administration in adult, pediatric, and neonatal areas. Such therapy includes, but, is not limited to aerosol therapy, nebulized medications, metered dose inhalers, flutter therapy, PEP therapy, incentive spirometry; nasotracheal and artificial airway suctioning; breathing exercises, CPAP/BiPAP therapy and support, sputum induction, and oxygen analysis.
