Must possess a minimum of at least one (1) year of prime court reporting experience in a court, or in the freelance field of service or a combination thereof.</li><li>
Must have passed the Registered Professional Reporters (RPR) examination administered by the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA) or passed an equivalent qualifying examination* such as the Certified Verbatim Reporter (CVR) administered by the National Verbatim Reporters Association (NVRA).</li><li>

<p>The U.S. District Court Clerk&rsquo;s Office for the District of Massachusetts is currently accepting applications to fill a full-time position for an Official Court Reporter. The position is based in the District Court in Boston, Massachusetts.</p><p><b>Summary:</b></p><p>The United States District Court for the District of Massachusetts, Boston, has an opening for an Official Court Reporter. Official Court Reporters serve at the pleasure of the Court and must comply with the requirements of the Judicial Conference of the United States, The Court Reporter&rsquo;s Manual published by the Administrative Office of the United States Courts, and policies of the Clerk&rsquo;s Office. Professional associations (other than the NCRA) and state license examinations may be acceptably equivalent to the NCRA testing, but the requirements for the examinations at the time of administration will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis;</p><p>A Certificate of Merit from the National Court Reporters Association, a requirement for Level II. Realtime certification required for Level III. ABOUT THE POSITION</b></div><div>
Under general supervision, the Official Assignment Court Reporter, working on an intermittent basis, reports and transcribes verbatim stenographic record of official court proceedings. A stenographic record is defined as using the voice method or the machine method. The Official Assignment Court Reporter prepares and certifies transcripts, and, at the direction of the Court, reads the report aloud in court, in accordance with applicable code sections; and performs related tasks within the area of assignment.</div><div></div><div><br>
The Official Assignment Court Reporter is distinguished from an Official Court Reporter in that the classification provides additional courtroom support from time to time on an as-needed basis. Incumbents will be expected to gradually perform a broader range of duties with increasing responsibility and independence as experience is gained. An Official Assignment Court Reporter is expected to qualify for advancement to Official Court Reporter by the end of a fifty-two (52) week probationary period. There is no permanent status in the Official Assignment Court Reporter classification. Upon advancement to Official Court Reporter, incumbents are placed on a six (6) month promotional probation period.</div><div></div><div><i><br>
Duties for the classification may include, but are not limited to:</i></div><div></div><div><br>
1. Assumes assignment responsibility to report accurate verbatim testimony and court proceedings using stenographic equipment and/or Computer Aided Transcription (CAT); asks Judicial Officer for clarification of instructions, orders, or takes other actions to properly note the official court record; this function is usually performed in the courtroom, however, the needs of the court may require reporting to be done in judicial chambers, conference rooms, or in rare circumstances, off-site locations.</div><div></div><div><br>
2. Reads back all or portions of the official court proceedings.</div><div></div><div><br>
3. Prepares transcripts; reviews and certifies transcripts of court proceedings.</div><div></div><div><br>
4. Maintains a variety of electronic and paper files of the court record for which the court reporter is directly responsible; prepares daily transcripts as needed; and provides transcripts of proceedings on request of parties or by the court, pursuant to applicable codes.</div><div></div><div><br>
5. Depending on the assignment, ensures Realtime text provided is compatible with litigation support software.</div><div></div><div><br>

</li><li>Obtain RPR designation from the NCRA within two years of hire. Pending receipt of the RPR designation, must, within one (1) month of hire, accurately take a minimum of 20 minutes of court proceedings alongside a stenographic court reporter who has an RPR designation or certification as provided in clauses(a) or (b), and then produce a transcript. The participating RPR certified stenographer will determine that ninety-five (95) percent accuracy is achieved to successfully complete this requirement.
