The Patient Care Technician (Activities Assistant for Long Term Care) is a trained individual, responsible for assisting the Recreational Therapist with activities, stimulation, and educational programs for residents on Long Term Care and is directly responsible to the Recreational Therapist of Long-Term Care. He or she uses good communication skills to motivate residents to help them gain interest and participate in activities. The Activity Assistant assists with nursing care for all Long-Term Care Residents, participates in resident and family teaching, and works in cooperation with ancillary nursing staff to maintain the standards for professional nursing practice in the clinical setting.
Responsibilities:

(20%)* Standards of Care/Technical Patient Care. Maintains the standards of nursing care and implements the policies and procedures of the hospital and Nursing Department, which includes maintaining the Patient's Bill of Rights/Resident Rights. Reports changes in patients/residents to the Registered Nurse or LPN. He or she is responsible for assisting with the feeding of all Long-Term Care residents.
(70%)* Activities. Plans, provides, coordinates, advertise, correspond, and documents participation activities. Responsible for assisting with the decorating of the Long-Term Care unit and keeps activities room functional. Assists with the planning and implementation of outings, special events and parties. Utilizes proper positioning techniques when re-positioning patient in bed, with ambulation or while transferring in &amp; out of the bed or chair.
During provision of care, maintains a safe and secure environment during provision of care.
