 The Center for Technology, Economics, and Development (CTED) at New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) invites applications from individuals to be appointed as a Junior Research Scientist (AI-Blockchain Project) for a one-year period, with the possibility of renewal conditional on excellent performance.

 The Junior Research Scientist (AI-Blockchain Research) will support advanced, quantitatively intensive research at CTED with a primary focus on artificial intelligence, machine learning, mathematical modeling, and computational analysis. The Junior Research Scientist will play a central role in supporting research design, algorithmic development, data analysis, and coding tasks across CTED&rsquo;s interdisciplinary projects. Working under the direction of the Principal Investigator (PI), Dr. Yaw Nyarko, and Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI), Dr. Ra&scaron;a Karapand&zcaron;a, the Junior Research Scientist will contribute to AI-driven and blockchain-enabled research related to commodities markets and economic development. The role requires strong foundations in mathematics and computer science, including statistical learning, optimization, simulation, and algorithmic reasoning. The successful candidate will use programming and computational tools (including Python, MATLAB, and related libraries) to develop, test, and evaluate machine learning models; review, proofread, and execute formal mathematical proofs; implement optimization and simulation-based methods; and analyze large and complex datasets. Responsibilities include supporting experimental and field-based research, preparing literature reviews, translating complex AI and mathematical findings into clear written outputs, and contributing to research reports, concept notes, and academic publications.

 Candidates must hold a Master&rsquo;s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics or a related field (e.g., Economics with a strong mathematics background). and have less than five years of relevant research experience; or hold a Bachelor&rsquo;s degree in a relevant field with any level of research experience. Applicants must have extensive coding experience, and preferably, applicants will have experience conducting field research in emerging countries and working on randomized controlled trials (RCTs). Applicants with experience working in programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, and/or MATLAB, a strong interest in economic and quantitative research and the willingness to learn about the blockchain, are encouraged to apply. Experience in web development, blockchain, commodities markets, and technology and economic development will be considered a plus. The successful candidate will work in a multidisciplinary environment, working autonomously, but as a team member under the direction of the Principal Investigator.

Junior Research Scientist in the Division of Social Science (CTED) - Dr. Yaw Nyarko

<div><p>The Birnbaum lab at NYU Biology is looking for a highly motivated and independent individual to work as a Postdoctoral Associate. This position is based in New York and the selected candidate will be expected to work onsite as of their effective start date.
</p><p>This position is for a post-PhD trainee preparing for a research scientist career path. The planned position will provide a transition to career independence through the development of professional skills; supervision by senior scientist incorporating individual development plan in support of training goals and those of faculty mentor; and publication of research findings/scholarship during postdoc appointment period.
</p><p>Projects in the lab focus on the molecular mechanisms of plant cell regeneration and cell-cell signaling. The project will combine plant genetics and genomics with whole-genome single-cell screening approaches developed in the lab. The successful candidate will also develop expertise in live-cell light sheet microscopy and computational analysis, with access to a high-performance computing cluster configured for machine learning and large-scale structural prediction using AlphaFold. Research in the lab spans three plant systems &mdash; Arabidopsis, maize, and sorghum &mdash; offering a broad comparative perspective on regeneration biology.
</p><p>The Birnbaum Lab has a strong record of career placement: recent alumni hold faculty and permanent positions at the University of North Carolina Charlotte, UC Riverside, Virginia Tech, Universit&eacute; de Paris, Cinvestav, Imperial College London, University of Warwick, and Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

<p>Elder Research Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of MANTECH international Corporation seeks a motivated, career and customer-oriented Data Scientist to join our team in Arlington, VA. This role is a remote role preferably in the Washington DC area.</p>
<p>As a Data Scientist, you will support the Internal Revenue Service&rsquo;s mission to improve tax compliance, fraud detection, and risk identification across large, complex tax and financial data environments. You will work directly with government clients, program managers, and technical teams to understand business and compliance challenges, design analytical approaches, and deliver data-driven solutions that inform enforcement, audit prioritization, and fraud prevention efforts.</p>
<p>In this role, you will develop, test, and deploy predictive and statistical models using structured and unstructured data to identify anomalies, non-compliance risk, and potential fraud within tax records and related datasets. You will contribute across the full data science lifecycle, from problem formulation and data exploration through model validation, deployment, and stakeholder communication.</p>
<p><b>Responsibilities include but are not limited to:</b></p>
<ul><li>Prior programming experience, preferably in Python or R, including data exploration, feature engineering, model development, and writing modular, reusable, well-documented code within an iterative development process that includes peer review and collaboration</li>
<li>Demonstrated experience using Python, SQL, and Databricks for data analysis, modeling, statistical evaluation, and working with Markdown for technical documentation</li>
<li>Explore, clean, and wrangle large, complex datasets to uncover insights and identify opportunities for data science&ndash;driven solutions in support of assessments, gap analyses, and actionable recommendations for IRS stakeholders</li>
<li>Design, develop, test, validate, and implement quantitative and qualitative data science solutions and predictive risk models (including audit selection, refund review, and fraud prevention initiatives) that are modular, maintainable, adaptable to evolving government and regulatory requirements, and supported by robustness, sensitivity, and significance testing to ensure defensible and explainable results</li>
<li>Apply statistical and machine learning techniques (supervised and unsupervised) to anomaly detection, fraud identification, and non-compliance risk scoring to help prioritize cases based on compliance risk, fraud indicators, and business impact</li>
<li>Collaborate with clients, subject matter experts, and cross-functional teams to refine problem statements, requirements, and analytical approaches, while demonstrating the ability to work independently in a collaborative, fast-paced environment</li>
