This role requires an individual who is already highly proficient in animal research techniques and capable of independently performing study procedures from start to finish. This position supports operations related to the readiness and maintenance of the autonomous ocean vehicle laboratory and participates in at‑sea deployment and recovery operations.

The lab uses transparent zebrafish embryos to understand how blood and lymphatic vessels form and function, both during normal development and disease. Major techniques used in the lab include confocal imaging, gene expression analysis, forced gene expression, transgenesis, genome editing, cell transplantation, cell culture, and biochemistry. In this role, the successful candidate will conduct basic science research under the mentorship of a senior scientist. Additional research and technical assistance include organizing walk audits and pop-up traffic calming projects and transportation demand management research and activities. The Research Associate will be expected to work with minimal supervision while designing and carrying out research and technical assistance and can use their experience and judgement to analyze data and guide future research.</div>

<ul><li>Design and carry out research and technical assistance, exercising discretion and judgement with minimal supervision.</li>
<li>Analyze and interpret data using your experience and judgment to guide future research supporting the goals of WTI.</li>
<li>Maintain equipment related to the pop-up traffic calming and safety projects, and other equipment as may be needed for projects.</li>
<li>Daily tasks may include, but are not limited to: maintaining equipment, conducting research, communicating with project sponsors and the public, ordering supplies, analyzing data using commercial and custom computer programs, and providing support in the preparation of publications and presentations.</li>

<div><ul><li>Masters degree in public health, urban planning, civil engineering (with a transportation emphasis), business, public administration or related field, and at least one year of experience in conducting Transportation research.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Demonstrated experience supporting research programs.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Demonstrated experience in researching and writing grant proposals.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Demonstrated experience maintaining accuracy, attention to detail, meeting deadlines, and efficiently prioritizing competing demands.</li></ul>
<ul><li>Demonstrated experience using personal computers and various software programs such as Microsoft Office Suite/electronic or online calendars, word processing, social media, spreadsheets, database systems, presentation software, email, and internet.</li></ul>

We are seeking a highly motivated and organized Research Associate (Researcher 1) for our interdisciplinary research project studying aging, balance control, and brain neural and vascular health that is sponsored by the National Institutes of Health. This project aims to understand the links between vascular brain function during aerobic exercise, neural brain function, and the neuromechanical control of balance reactions in older adults and adults across the lifespan. Motivated candidates will have prior work and/or research experience in a biomechanics laboratory. Ideal candidates will possess a working knowledge base and prior coursework in neuroscience, exercise physiology, and biomechanics.<br>

This Researcher will play a vital role in conducting biomechanical and neurophysiologic human subjects' assessments involving young, middle-aged, and older adults. They will be responsible for executing duties to keep the lab running efficiently. They will also be responsible for basic research coordination of participant study visits.<br>
<br>
This is a one-year appointment, with the possibility of being continued for a second year based on performance.<br>
<br>
Position Duties and Responsibilities:</p><p><br>
60%: Conduct balance biomechanics, EEG, and transcranial ultrasound experiments. Experiments involve balance and gait testing using cutting-edge biomechanical equipment, brain activity recordings using EEG, brain blood flow velocity recordings during exercise using transcranial Doppler ultrasound.<br>
<br>
30%: Study coordination of participant visits. Includes communicating and screening future participants via email, phone, and Redcap screening forms and organized documentation of participant correspondence and medical release forms. Organizing and maintaining the lab calendar and weekly announcements.<br>
<br>
5%: Routine laboratory maintenance: Ongoing work in the lab requires a ready supply of electrodes, gels, tape, laundry, and various lab materials; assist in maintaining these supplies and general lab upkeep for a functional and efficient lab; help to train undergraduate students in select hands-on skills to assist with laboratory data collection and analysis.<br>
<br>
5%: Archive data, perform basic analytic procedures involving biomechanical, EEG, and ultrasound data with guidance and pre-written analysis scripts (MatLab and R studio).</p><p>
