 Nurse Practitioner I
 
 that helps with all aspects of patient care for research purposes. May work in inpatient, outpatient and research situations and performs independently or as part of a treatment team. Educates patients about preventative care and prescribed treatments, including research supplements and placebos. Conduct physical exams, orders tests and medications, and serves as a patient's primary healthcare provider.
 
 This position is part-time at 21 hours per week during the standard business day.
 
 
 
 This position will be in support of the Graduate School of Nursing at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (Bethesda, MD). Research will be in collaboration with the cardiovascular unit of Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.

 Responsibilities
 
 
 
 <ul>
 <li>
 Provides support in study coordination and implementation, data and study management. Oversees the implementation, tracking, data abstraction and collection, and coordination of data reporting.
 </li>
 <li>
 Knowledgeable and proficient with the content of standard of care. Identifies problems in the research design, analysis, methodology and trends in patient reactions to treatment. Collects, organizes, catalogs, disseminates, and maintains appropriate files of current data.
 </li>
 <li>
 Assists in the development of research questions, design and methodology. Assists in writing and/or editing, organization and management of protocols. Supports protocols at Institutional Review Boards (IRBs).
 </li>
 <li>
 Educates patients and their families on research protocol, purpose of the research, procedures, patient responsibilities, answers questions, and discusses risks and benefits of participation. May explain Informed Consent for research protocol(s).
 </li>
 <li>
 Develops reports and presents clinical results at local and national meetings and assist in the preparation of research articles for publication in scientific journals.
 </li>
 <li>
 Provides patient care including: screening, evaluating and monitoring patients. Prepares patients for office visits and invasive procedures and assists in the implementation of these procedures.
 </li>
 <li>
 Provides assistance, consultation, assessment and monitoring of patients participating in or being evaluated for enrollment in research studies.
 </li>
 <li>
 Performs examinations and screenings on participating patients and maintains records of results. Prescribes appropriate therapies within the limits established by the protocol.
 </li>
 <li>
 Obtains information from patients and their family/caregivers to gather appropriate data including present and past medical history and physical assessment. Provides patient/family counseling and education.
 </li>
 <li>
 Assists with the management of patient specialty clinics which may include clinic set up, booking appointments, returning phone calls and handing out appropriate program information and questionnaires.
 </li>
 <li>
 Provides feedback to PI to monitor the quality of patient care and issues that affect protocol adherence and program operations.
 </li>
 <li>
 Provides emergency care and triages patients, developing processes to continually improve clinical functions, on an as needed basis.
 </li>
 <li>
 May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

 Master's Degree in Nursing.

The Framingham Heart Study (FHS), an affiliate of Boston University, is seeking a Nurse Practitioner or Physician's Assistant to perform research exams on volunteer participants that include a standardized medical history interview, blood pressure readings and interpretation of ECGs, at our Research Center in Framingham. For quality control purposes, the NP/PA will review exam information collected by another NP/PA. A small number of exams may be conducted via Zoom and/or telephone. The NP/PA will also conduct yearly medical history updates by phone. The ideal candidate will value teamwork, have excellent communication skills and attention to detail.This is a part-time, 20 hour per week position.
