<div><p>The Assistant Research Scientist II in EcoMAP serves as an observer on aerial surveys of whales, dolphins and sea turtles in New England waters. They are responsible for sightings and effort flight logs, data quality checking, and submission to the North Atlantic Right Whale Consortium sightings database. Submission to the sightings database ensures we meet our grant reporting deliverables. They are also responsible for photo-analysis of digital imagery for species detection and identifications, and processing and facilitating submission of right whale data to the North Atlantic Right Whale Consortium Identification database. Submission to the identification database requires independent judgement when making decisions about photograph processing to ensure data accuracy. Finally, the Assistant Research Scientist II will act as lead observer in the plane in the absence of survey coordinator or Principal Investigator (PI). Acting as the lead observer requires independent judgement when making decisions about survey protocols, which are significant to staff safety, ensuring permit compliance, and accurate data collection.</p><p>
This is a full-time, 1-year, grant-funded position with the possibility for extension. The position offers a comprehensive benefits package. This position requires some irregular hours and some long days on flight days. Occasional work on weekends and holidays will also be required for fieldwork. The usual hours for non-fieldwork will be Monday - Friday, 9a - 5p with flexibility based on the fieldwork schedule, which represents a 35-hour week, with a 1-hour unpaid meal period each day. Non-fieldwork can be conducted remotely. Remote days are only available for residents of MA, RI, NH, ME, NY and VT. The Principal research scientist is responsible for coordinating and carrying out the full spectrum of activities related to the development and validation of bioanalytical methods according to client requests and within the required timeframes.

Independently develop, validate and optimize bioanalytical methods or instruct other staff to do so.</li><li>
Drive innovation in the company's bioanalytical techniques.</li><li>
Process, analyze and interpret bioanalytical data and train and instruct staff on appropriate analysis techniques.</li><li>
Find solutions to problems related to the application of bioanalytical methods.</li><li>
Supervise and/or drive improvements in laboratory activity processes (method development and validation).</li><li>
Write and review bioanalytical method SOPs.</li><li>
Review scientific literature in order to guide the development of bioanalytical methods.</li><li>
Document and/or review documentation of activities related to the development and validation of bioanalytical methods.</li><li>
Can be called upon to assist with the training of new employees related to research and development and validation.</li><li>
Assist in competitive intelligence by developing and testing new analytical instruments.</li><li>
Coordinate resources to drive development of bioanalytical methods.</li><li>
Can be called upon to perform all biological sample processing and analysis activities.</li><li>
Can be called upon to supervise the work of laboratory staff.</li><li>
Supervise, coach, and mentor scientific staff.</li><li>
Oversee development of direct reports by setting goals, conducting performance reviews, evaluating and monitoring training needs, creating development plans, mentoring, and coaching.</li><li>
Set priorities and schedule activities of departmental resources, implement company objectives, and create alternative solutions to address business and operational challenges.</li></ul><p></p><ul><li>
Responsible for performing activities that are in compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies, Standard Operating Procedures and Operating Guidelines and performing other duties as assigned by management.</li></ul><p></p><p><b>
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS (please indicate if &lsquo;preferred&rsquo;)</b></p><p></p><ul><li>
Bachelor&rsquo;s Degree in Science.</li><li>
Relative alternate certification may be considered acceptable.</li></ul><ul><li>
Experience in regulatory context will be considered an asset.</li><li>
Must demonstrate good computer skills especially in the utilization of Microsoft Word and Excel and analytical software (E.g. Analyst).</li><li>
Demonstrates skills in scientific problem solving.</li><li>
English level: Required bilingualism includes communicating verbally and in writing on topics that are often technical, and writing procedures or technical reports.</li></ul><p></p><p>
