Job Summary and Qualifications</b></h5><p></p><p>
The Respiratory Therapy Supervisor assists the Department Director in overseeing the daily operation of the Respiratory Therapy Department with accountability for leadership, staffing, planning, organizing and controlling, budget management, and functioning in the manager&rsquo;s role in his/her absence. The Supervisor supervises staff and coordinates care of patients requiring respiratory therapy; and collaborates with patients, families, peers, physicians and other members of the health care team in the delivery of patient care. The Supervisor provides direct care to patients as required. He/she must utilize reasoning ability/critical thinking for individual care to meet the needs of patients; communicate effectively with Physicians, patients and managers; and promote customer service initiatives.</p><p><b>
What you will do in this role:</b></p><p></p><ul><li>
Maintain responsibility for department scheduling and day-to-day staffing.
</li><li>Provide supervision and guidance to staff, including developing and coordinating clinical activities. Resolve employee issues as appropriate.
</li><li>Implement process improvement initiatives with staff participation.
</li><li>Provide orientation and mentoring to new staff members, ensure that staff is trained in technical and clinical skills.
</li><li>Provide direct patient care in appropriate discipline as required.
</li><li>Serve as a resource person for hospital staff and physicians regarding current practices in respiratory care.
</li><li>Responsible for assisting Respiratory Manager in TJC preparations, chart auditing, annual staff evaluations/reviews, and interviewing potential respiratory therapy staff candidates.
</li><li>Role model proactive, collaborative working relationships across all hospital in an interdisciplinary approach to patient care which includes participation in various function teams and/or committees and meetings.
</li><li>Demonstrate knowledge of human growth and development, assessment, range of treatment, and care of patient/customer needs appropriate to the ages of patients/customers served as per Scope of Service.
</li><li>Assist Respiratory Director in meeting departmental budget by assessing staffing, monitoring supply costs, reviewing department charges, and seeking opportunities to improve performance. Make appropriate budget recommendations.

Graduate of a Respiratory Care Program accredited by the AMA and the NBRC required.</li><li>
Bachelor&rsquo;s Degree preferred.</li><li>

<div><p>The Supervisor &ndash; Respiratory Therapy Services works closely with the Manager - Respiratory Therapy Services to oversee the quality of clinical practice provided by Respiratory Therapists to ensure adequate training of staff, appropriately allocating resources, and monitoring work. S/he provides leadership and guidance to the respiratory therapy staff and serves as a resource for the respiratory therapy department, nursing, physicians and all other hospital personnel. The incumbent provides a comprehensive range of therapeutic and diagnostic procedures to patients requiring basic and advanced cardiopulmonary and related services. Under direction of a licensed physician, who has special expertise in respiratory care, the Supervisor &ndash; Respiratory Therapy Services utilizes the application of scientific principles for the identification, prevention, remediation, research, and rehabilitation of acute or chronic cardiopulmonary dysfunction thereby promoting optimum health and function.
</p><p><b>KEY ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES:
</b></p><ul><li>Reviews patient&rsquo;s medical history, conducts assessments of the patient&rsquo;s pathophysiological condition, recommends appropriate care and documents patient response outcomes in a timely and accurate manner.
</li><li>Provides cardiorespiratory related diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, assesses and documents patient response in a timely and accurate manner.
</li><li>Sets up and performs quality control procedures and operates respiratory and laboratory equipment, making adjustments as necessary.
</li><li>Obtains and maintains all clinical core competencies of the Respiratory Therapy Services department.
</li><li>Responsible for maintaining up to date mandatory Life Support Training requirements as directed by MoPH and Sidra (e.g. BLS, AED etc.)

</li><li>Initiates, monitors and assesses ventilator/technology dependent patients on an outlined basis.
