 We are seeking a versatile and service-oriented Instruction and Reference Librarian to join our collaborative library team. The successful candidate will partner with library faculty and staff, university subject faculty, and student support offices to anticipate and serve student needs. In addition to instruction and reference responsibilities, this position contributes to liaison activities with an assigned academic school (Arts and Sciences; Business and Economics; Education, Health and Human Services), including course-integrated instruction, collection development, and research support. The library serves a primarily on-campus population of undergraduates, including students from Clinton Community College, and a primarily online population of graduate students. The chief librarian will work with college partners to develop strategic external relationships that advance the library&rsquo;s mission as a hub for scholarly innovation, leverage consortium partnerships to enhance resource discoverability and access, and strengthen the facility&rsquo;s infrastructure through active fundraising.</p>
<p>The successful candidate must have expert knowledge of both traditional library functions, information systems, and emerging technologies, as well as trends in higher education and their impact on library services including the application of artificial intelligence to all aspects of library services.</p>
<p>Reporting to the Provost, the Chief Librarian oversees all aspects of library administration, strategic planning, budgeting, and personnel management. The successful candidate will articulate and implement a vision for the library&rsquo;s future that aligns with the College&rsquo;s Strategic Plan, mission, and priorities in an evolving information and technology landscape.</p>
<p>Responsibilities include but are not limited to:</p>

Develop and implement a forward-thinking strategic plan for the Brooklyn College Library and Office of Academic Information Technologies that aligns with the College&rsquo;s Strategic Plan, mission, and priorities.</div></li>

In collaboration with college partners, actively fundraise for projects that align with the College's Strategic Plan, mission, and priorities.</div></li>

Foster a culture of innovation, inclusion, and collaboration in support of the College&rsquo;s diverse faculty, students, and staff.</div></li>

Lead library/AIT engagement in campus discussions concerning instructional design, emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, scholarly communication, and digital infrastructure.</div></li>

Provide leadership for technology infrastructure, ensuring integrated support between the Library and AIT.</div></li>

Partner with faculty across the disciplines and fields of Education, Natural and Behavioral Sciences, Business, Humanities, Social Sciences, and the Visual and Performing Arts to strengthen curricular and pedagogical initiatives through innovative library services/AIT and resources.</div></li>

Supervise, mentor, and promote the professional development of a professional staff of librarians, technologists, and administrative personnel, cultivating an engaged and forward-thinking team.</div></li>

Represent the library within the College and to external consortia, funding agencies, and academic networks.</div></li>

<p><b>QUALIFICATIONS</b></p>
<p>This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.</p>

This role will oversee the full lifecycle of library materials—from acquisition to the shelf—while managing the digital systems that help our community find them. Key responsibilities include but are not limited to: supervise para-professional staff, oversee all aspects of acquisitions, cataloging, and materials processing; manage the public-facing online catalog; and lead cataloging systems and specialized technical projects.Under general supervision, provides technical and functional direction to other staff; develops and provides a full range of technical and/or direct library services to the community and performs a variety of professional librarian duties including development of programs and services for target audiences, reference, collection development and management, and/or cataloging; identifies current community needs and projects future needs; takes initiative to assist in improving library services; and performs related work as required.SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISEDReceives general supervision from a Library Manager I/II or other management staff. When filled from the outside positions in this class require prior work experience equivalent to a journey-level Librarian II. The Librarian class series is distinguished from library support and technical series in that incumbents are required to possess a Master’s Degree in Library Science or substantially equivalent education and experience and to be capable of carrying out the full range of duties of a professional librarian. <br>Physical DemandsMust possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and use standard office equipment, including a computer; to operate a motor vehicle and to visit various Library and meeting sites; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person, before groups, and over the telephone. This is primarily a sedentary office classification although standing in work areas and walking between work areas may be required. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator, and to operate standard office equipment and elementary hand tools.
