This is a small, wonderful team working closely with a variety of medical professionals to provide excellent compassionate care. Applicant must be able to work Monday - Friday; 8:00am - 4:30pm. 
 
Job Summary 
 
Compounds and dispenses medical prescriptions; maintains drug inventory and stock control systems under the direct supervision of pharmacists to ensure clinical and administrative effectiveness. Assists pharmacists in compounding, preparing and dispensing medical prescriptions to the public after receiving information from clients, customers or patients according to written/faxed prescriptions. Uses computers to enter, access or retrieve data; establishes and maintains patient profiles, including lists of medications taken by individual patients and all new prescription and/or refill requests. Maintains proper storage and security conditions for drugs; controls inventory stock level and timeline to ensure adequate supplies. Coordinates departmental quality assurance and other client-focused services with supervisory staff; creates and maintains a safe working environment and conditions that adhere to state laws and regulations. 
 
In addition to the responsibilities of the pharmacy technician, the Senior Pharmacy Technician receives little instruction on day-to-day work and receives general instructions on new assignments. Exercises latitude in determining objectives, approaches, auditing and maintenance of additional assignments. Projects and work often require problem resolution, generation of new solutions, and frequently looking beyond the immediate problem. Work is evaluated upon completion to ensure that results and objectives have been met. Modifies existing tools, techniques and processes with approval from leadership. Supports the development, implementation and maintenance of new processes or techniques. Serves as a resource for leadership and staff, as well as a mentor to others. Leads in resolution of day-to-day challenges. Assists with compliance of accepted standards and laws pertaining to the practice of pharmacy. Ensures policies and procedures are followed. 
 
Qualifications 
 
High School graduate or general education diploma (GED) required. Associate's degree preferred. 
 
Requires two years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician, including leading providing work guidance to others. 
 
Must maintain annual registration as a Pharmacy Technician through the State Board of Pharmacy in state(s) of practice and/or possess multi-state privileges as required by position. Must also complete the required hours of Pharmacy Technician continuing education. 
 
Iowa: Effective July 1, 2010, all pharmacy technicians working in Iowa pharmacies must be nationally certified by an accredited technician certification board. Currently accredited boards are the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) and the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). An individual enrolled in a technician training course or program, or an individual who has not previously worked as a pharmacy technician and who accepts technician employment in an Iowa pharmacy, must register as a pharmacy technician trainee within 30 days of starting technician training or employment. A technician trainee must become a nationally certified pharmacy technician within 12 months of starting technician employment or training. A pharmacy technician trainee who does not complete national pharmacy technician certification before expiration of the pharmacy technician trainee registration, must discontinue working as a pharmacy technician. 
 
Minnesota: Must have active/current pharmacy technician registration with the Minnesota Board of Pharmacy and the completion of a formal technician training program. Must obtain Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) prior to hire. 
 
North Dakota: Technician certification: Must maintain active licensure in North Dakota. The North Dakota Board of Pharmacy does not require employers to collect or submit ongoing documentation of national certification renewal. Technicians are responsible for ensuring their state registration remains current and in good standing. 
 
South Dakota: Registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the SD Board of Pharmacy required within 30 days from the date of hire. As of September 12, 2024, the state of South Dakota requires technician certification in the following roles: A Technician Providing immunizations, a Technician working in a Remote Pharmacy, other advanced functions as approved per the Board.

Maintains knowledge of Company asset protection techniques, and files claims for warehouse overages (merchandise received, but not billed), shortages (merchandise billed, but not received), order errors or damaged goods involving Rx drugs.</li>
<li>May assist pharmacist in administering clinical services including the collection and proper labeling of blood/urine samples from patients and other clinical services as required; assists pharmacy staff in coordination of clinical services, Walgreens healthcare clinics and external providers.</li>
<li>Assists Pharmacy Manager and Staff Pharmacist in developing and maintaining good relationships with the local medical community, including physicians, nurses, and other health care providers, by medical provider detailing and outreach to health groups, retirement homes, nursing homes, and other forums for enhancing growth opportunities.</li>

Basic Qualifications

As a Senior Acute Pharmacy Technician, Oncology you will spend at least 50% of each day sterile compounding in both a hazardous and a non-hazardous IV room. Other duties include unpacking drug deliveries, restocking the pharmacy, and medication delivery. Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center Located in Gilbert, Ariz. (the Phoenix Metro area) on the Banner Gateway Campus, the center provides world-class care for oncology patients - both inpatient and outpatient - and has also brought leading oncology programs to the Banner Gateway campus including designation as a Stem Cell Transplant Center of Excellence and comprehensive Head &amp; Neck cancer care. Our capabilities include five linear accelerator vaults, a brachytherapy vault, an advanced diagnostic imaging suite with PET/CT scan, more than 70 infusion bays, a cryopreservation lab and much more. Our inpatient medical oncology unit also incorporates a program that utilizes the electronic surveillance partnership in caring for the patient, where remote nurses have the ability to interact with patients via two-way audio-video to assist the bedside nurse with patient care.
POSITION SUMMARY 
This position will work under the supervision of the pharmacist performing routine duties in packaging, distribution, non-sterile compounding, and record-keeping of pharmaceutical supplies. Serves as a liaison between the customer and the pharmacist. Effectively uses pharmacy computer systems to investigate and respond to missing medication requests. Consistently demonstrates an ability to assess a situation, consider alternatives, and choose the appropriate course of action. Demonstrates proficiency in preparing compounded intravenous medications, total parenteral nutrition products, and chemotherapeutic agents within compliance with USP &lt;797&gt;/&lt;800&gt;. Ensures that the sterile compounding environment and all equipment are cleaned and maintained according to policy. May educate and train peer Pharmacy Technicians, Technician Externs, Technician Trainees, and Volunteers. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients. 
 
CORE FUNCTIONS 
1. Identifies medications and other items for reorder as necessary to maintain a continuous inventory of medications and supplies. Receives, checks-in, and restocks medications ordered through the wholesaler and other vendors verifying all quantities against invoices. Assesses practical ways to deal with shorted items and short-dated or unusable items.
2. Manages users within the automated dispensing technology database as per policy. Investigates discrepancies and troubleshoots malfunctions in automated dispensing technology. 
3. Exhibits excellent interpersonal skills and is customer service oriented in all contacts with patients, visitors and staff. Responds to standard requests from internal customers. Interacts primarily with department personnel, cross-department personnel, internal customers, patients and physicians. 
4. May use automated dispensing technology or requisition to restock medications to nursing and ancillary areas after checking by a pharmacist. When allowed by law and policy, and upon completion of proper training/competency assessment, may restock automated dispensing technology using barcode scanning verification devices. Restocks medications to all areas outside automated dispensing technology which may include but not limited to trays, code carts and emergency boxes. 
5. Compounds non-sterile medication products. Understands and appropriately follows all product worksheets/recipes for documentation and check processes. Understands and adheres to all applicable USP compounding guidelines. Demonstrates knowledge of and consistently performs calibrations of equipment and accurately measures components for compounding. Repackages bulk medications into unit of use packaging. Completes accurate documentation of medications compounded and repackaged per policy. 
6. Maintains a safe and clean working environment by complying with all policies, laws, and regulations. Performs quality control activities such as monthly nursing unit inspections and pharmacy section checks in a timely manner. Completes documentation of refrigerator temperatures, and equipment maintenance activities as required. 
7. Ensures the proper use of garbing and compounding techniques in accordance with policies and has knowledge of basic principles within USP &lt;797&gt; and USP&lt;800&gt;, laws, policies, and procedures that pertain to compounding. Performs compounding and labeling of intravenous compounds and hazardous agents to include chemotherapy using proper sterile and aseptic technique as appropriate to the site of care. Understands the different product lines in sterile compounding (patient specific and non-patient specific batch) and the differences between the various populations (Adult, Pediatric, Neonate). Completes all required environmental cleaning procedures. Documents all required tasks and other information per policy. Understands the safe handling of hazardous drugs and demonstrated the correct receipt, storage, labelling and transport process. 
8. Handles narcotic medications following all federal and legal requirements as set through policy and procedure. Understands all regulatory requirements for receiving, compounding, repackaging, and distribution for controlled substances. Consistently adheres to all storage and inventory movement documentation requirements for controlled substances. 
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 
Requires Pharmacy Technician licensure and active Pharmacy Technician certification OR Pharmacy Intern licensure in the state of practice.
Incumbents in Arizona are also required to provide the AZ Board of Pharmacy Wallet Card at time of hire. 
Minimum of two years pharmacy technician experience. Ability to complete moderate to difficult mathematical calculations using a hand-held calculator is required. Strong customer service focus, exceptional communication skills, strong attention to detail, prioritization capabilities, superior problem-solving skills, and ability to multi-task. Must have knowledge of computer software, particularly medication management information system software, Microsoft applications and automated dispensing systems. Must demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills for interfacing with all levels of staff, physicians, patients, and other contacts. 
Employees working at Banner Behavioral Health Hospital must possess an Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card at the time of hire and maintain the card for the duration of their employment. An Arizona Criminal History Affidavit must be signed upon hire.
